FFL transfer and pay the shipping.

BEFORE the law is passed. The way it is written, I think, doing this after the bill is signed into law is illegal. Shoddy writing, that. The way this piece of crap is written we'd all pretty much become felons as soon as the governor's pen left the page. Meaning no grace period, no waiting for the law to take effect after it is signed, no provision for legal out of state sales. If you have a firearm that meets this definition of "assault weapon" you are instant felon upon the signing of this bill. Your only option is to surrender the weapon for destruction.

I have a friend that lives in Texas, is it possible for me to just take it with me on a trip there and do the transfer there?

I've already pinged my brother, too. :(

foolthrottle808 - BEFORE this version of the law is passed, yes, you can travel with your rifle as you do now.

Fucking insane. This would literally make criminals out of law abiding citizens with a pen stroke with zero considerations for how to handle that gracefully.

Hopefully this is one of those deals where they ask for 110% with realistic hopes of getting less (hopefully MUCH less if at all). This bill, which is no where near a law yet, concerns me great deal. As currently written, it impacts me in a big way, as I am sure it does many of you.

I also have to think that like Cuomo, some legislators are introducing bills of this nature just for notoriety, instead of doing what they feel their constituents want.

how do we know they won't just ram it through like NY did with their bill? We have a never ending sea of D next to almost every member in the state legislature. I don't see how you guys remain optimistic. It's been a giant turd slide since 1934 and everything is just going into a death spiral now it seems.

Hopefully not the case here but In New York they rammed it through so fast, as you said, that people didn't even have time to react. I'm hoping in our case that this will become visible in the local media and possibly nationally soon and 2a folks can ban together and start opposing this in large numbers. People nationally seen what happened in New York, so maybe we can get some support nationally, possibly the NRA. Just wishful thinking, but several folks that are part of 2a know the right people to get the ball rolling.

Ain't much in my wallet but this makes me want to empty it into whatever the most effective lobbying organization is going to be.

it's not gonna get rammed through as quickly as new york, but i am positive it will get rammed through
no one will care how onerous and unconstitutional it is
nor will they care that we already have amongst the most stringent gun laws (and this would make HI have THE most stringent gun laws in the US)
the leg and the governor will do anything to make o'bama look good

I tried sending a message to Hawaii News Now and the Star Advertiser, asking them to report on this. It's crazy that this posting is all I've seen on this. They're keeping it quiet, until there's a headline saying that it passed.

can't we write to the senator of our district to report our concerns?  Does anyone know how to start a petition to stop this bill from being passed?  For now couldn't we contact our representatives directly to oppose the hearing, therefore stalling the bill?

Has anyone ever started a petition before?  There are a bunch of sites that write of petitions, but don't know which one to use.  Would that even help in this case?

I don't know if it'd help, it has already gone into "Introduced" status. It might just fly through.

good thing we have our(2a people)  event tomorrow, couldnt have been better timing.  Especially if we have some media coverage on it.  Let them know we are not pushovers and wont take this.  The organizers did a good job on this, and maybe we could form a committee or group or something along those lines.

We also need to start spreading the word to everyone.  Use social media, twitter, fliers, talk to everyone you know and let them know this is happening right now.

We also need to put pressure on all our representatives.  State ones, district ones, all of them.  I have been emailing for the last 2 weeks and have not gotten a reply yet.  I think its time to call and flood their phone lines.  Ill do some google-fu and see if i can find the information for all the representatives.

Finally we could also contact the media like someone previously mentioned.  Not sure how much run around they will give, so maybe talk to gun friendly media resources, like that one lady HiCarry posted about that wanted to interview gun owners.  See if she can spread the word in a good light and get us some media coverage.

Ive seen HiCarry thread about new laws being introduced and he is quite familiar with law in hawaii.  Maybe he has pointers as well on what direction to take.

Hopefully our sherrifs and hpd is cool enough to stand down and not want to confiscate.

We have to let them know that if they vote for this they will not be reelected. I don't know how many ak's and ar's were sold in the last 3 months but it was a lot, and they are all voters. If all of a sudden mom,dad or grampa is a felon and they have to turn in their expensive gun or it gets confiscated, who do you think they are going to vote for and they will make sure everyone in the family votes for someone else.

I suggest starting an individual thread for each of the separate measures.

That way the information can be tracked for each one, on an individual basis.

Putting the measures altogether can potentially lead to data loss or having a measure fall through the cracks.

Thoughts?

Already been implemented here: http://2ahawaii.com/index.php?board=12.0

Those threads will update whenever there is a change. Feel free to discuss in those individual threads as well.

So,  what do we do other than writing our legislators?   I'm going to my lgs to see if they know of anything being organized on maui.
