This stuff really shouldn't be shocking. From the point of view of military preparedness, which doesn't require the polite and convoluted talk that the HIll does, it makes sense to be prepared for all possible threats.
That the American people are seen as a possible threat also shouldn't surprise you. Legislation has been trending that way bit by bit for a while. What I'm still not entirely certain of is who we are a threat to and why. I'm pretty sure that they have a lot of money and wisely haven't lived in castles since the 1790's. Not rocket science or tinfoil: just the only group of people that has ever had the means to control nations against the best interests of the people.
I am certain that its not a democrat / republican thing. I'm also pretty sure that the sh*t will hit the fan in one way or another sooner or later. This also isn't really rocket science or tinfoil: 7 billion people with no signs of slowing down, an interlinked world economy that requires continuous growth, food delivery systems which require cheap energy and the approach of peak oil leaves no other possibility. Those who can are preparing for it so that things work out to their benefit, as most crises have for a long, long time. The question being asked isn't really "Will you fire on Americans?" It is "Do you know which master you serve?" That is an entirely appropriate question for the top brass as they have insanely political positions. If it comes down to it that is going to be a very tough call for the men and women who are ordered to do the firing.
If this is the case, I'm pretty sure there is jack sh*t we can do about it, anyway. These are levels of influence that we simply have no access to. Best to just enjoying hanging out and having good beer together while we can.
