I just got off gun broker and guys are asking $599 to $800 for the 17 gen 4, but they have higher cap mags than allowed in Hawaii....
I'll check around the LGS's for the 17....
When I checked before the answer was "it's on backorder and they are not sure when the 17 will be back in stock"
I'll keep calling every so often, hopefully prices have not jumped up too bad....
Is the 34 the newer version for glock?
The Gen 4 Glocks are the current versions. The 34 is just a different model than the 17.
You also need to be aware of the recoil spring, of which I believe the current one is marked 0-4-2 for both the Glock 17 and 34. Some people also have some trouble with ejector and in that case, I believe the one that most people have had success with is the 30274.
That said, if you are getting one of recent manufacture, it should have the current components. If you are buying used, you may want to check those components. I believe Glock was sending out the current recoil springs under a RSA program, but mine came with the 0-4-2 spring and I haven't have any problems with any of my Gen 4 Glocks.
Last time I checked on nationwide gun forums, most people report no price premium on handguns at this time, so I wouldn't expect to pay a premium for a Glock 17 or 19. Should be in the $580-$600 range locally. Maybe a little less for Gen 3, which are also still currently being produced by Glock (or at least they were at the end of 2012).
Good luck!
