New England Custom Gun makes rear apertures that clamp onto weaver rails.  Pricey.  I bought one for a .22 grooved receiver... it's still looking for a home!  And, of course, when you think aperture sights, you have to think Lyman and Williams.  Williams has the WGRS series designed to fit existing rear sights in many rifles.

Really, though, if you go with something like the NECG or the Williams WGRS, you are missing half the point.  What you really want for a proper experience is an aperture sight that has click-adjustable elevation and windage.  For that, you have to go either receiver-mounted or tang-mounted. However, Lyman makes many receiver-mounted aperture sights that are removeable.  There's a permanent base, but the sight pops off for storage and protection.  Something like that may make it fairly easy to transition between iron and glass.

Most globe sights I've seen just fit into standard dovetail cuts.  Lyman has one for about $35.  It pairs up nicely with their receiver sights!

You can see my Mossberg here.  It sports a removeable Lyman receiver sight and globe front sight.  The combination, as you can see, is pretty effective.

Thanks Tom.  I have been looking at those sights for a while, and like you said, I would like to have a proper click adjustible rear aperture type sight.  I was also looking at the Ar-15 match rifle type sights.  The rear clamps to a piccatinny type rail and the front clamps to the barrel.  BUT, ho bradda PRICEY.

I was also looking at the airgun type rear apertures.  Alot cheaper, but the go onto dovetail slots. I could probably modify something to work, but I still need something to clamp to the front.

Oh well, I'll keep looking for something.

Your Mossberg, very nice!

Woah... now those are SEXY!  I particularly love the bubble level on the front sight.  Can't say I like the idea of clamping the front sight to the barrel, though.  Getting it plumb the first time would be a bear.  Keeping it that way, between the vibrations of the muzzle and accidental bumps, seems like an impossible challenge.

It can't be THAT hard to find a gunsmith who will cut a front sight dovetail into your AR barrel.

I went over to rimfirecentral.com and posted the same question. I was directed to this link:

Looks like an easy project and not to expensive. I think I could manage drilling and tapping for the rear sight base without a problem.

Also,  if no one else wants to extend this months match, next month we will try some new challenges.
Perhaps a handgun challenge like Tom suggested? ;D

Can I shoot this on private land or do we have to go to the range?

You can shoot any where you want, as long as it is safe and legal. ;D
Just set up your targets at 50 and 100 yards with a good backstop and a safe direction.

Tom, my hat is off to you for getting your score with iron sights.  Oh and by sitting I meant sitting at the bench, is that the correct terminology?

Mighty fine shooting Antithesis!

Last day... any other entries for this month?  I was hoping to get to the range for the 50 yard, but my work has other ideas.

I think next month's match I have something a little different in mind.

If your rifle was supported on the bench, then "benchrest" is a better descriptor.  "Sitting" usually implies your butt is on the ground and your gun isn't supported by anything but your body, but it would also be appropriate if you were sitting at a bench but neither your arms nor the rifle were resting on it.

Ah I stand corrected then.  It was bench rest shooting.  Sorry for any confusion.

Oops, in that case, I was shooting benchrest, not sitting.  I am still pretty new, learning terminology and all that.

Antithesis and Heavies, great shooting!  Tom, I don't know how you do it with iron sights!

I will have to try for 100 yards one of these days..  I felt like my 4x scope was not enough, but Tom just took away any excuse. :)
