Well, I actually buttonholed the prosecutor before the session started and convinced her that what happened was I had asked for a replacement month sticker at the License Plate Place. No big deal, I handed her my registration and the clerk just picked up a little envelope with the proper month sticker in it and handed it to me and that was that.
"Next!"
Except I had handed her my truck registration instead of for my car, so I got the wrong month. I didn't really look at the registration forms with my "registration form" glasses, just my "driving" glasses, so I didn't realize it.
So I was driving along one day and there was a cop car behind me, which didn't concern me until they lit me up. WTH? They had been checking plates as they were driving along, and caught that.
They actually took my rear plate off with a screwdriver and pliers, but I had pop-riveted the front plate on and they couldn't take that. I asked how I was supposed to get home, and they said walk or take a bus. So I waited for a good half hour and started up the car and drove it home via back streets with no rear plate.
I used the truck to get to the courhouse.
Now, see, if I had been convicted of that as a felony, as in California (it was only a misdemeanor here), that would have knocked out my 2a rights for life.
So now I wonder if the anti-gunners are missing the boat here. They don't have to ban guns to choke off ownership. All they have to do is make every pissant technical violation a felony.
As some wiseguy said after Martha Stewart was convicted of felonious stock manipulations, "I feel so much safer now, knowing that Martha Stewart can no longer own a gun."
Phew! <sigh of relief> I feel safer, too.
