He's a dictator?
Wow. Does congress know? I mean, they've been following his Dictates to the letter, right? They've just been bending over backwards to make sure His Dictatorness's demands are fully implemented.
Please. The Republic is still (barely) working. Its not pretty, no one is getting all - or even much - of what they want but it IS still working. And the cracks in the mortar have been growing for a long time and aren't coming the actions of either party alone.
There is probably enough opposition to the worst of the gun control push that it won't pass. Probably. The fact that none of us are happy with the government overall means that incumbents seeking to hold on to their seats are unlikely to take enormous risks. For moderates and swing state reps and senators that probably means a No vote to the worst of the gun control push. The pro-gun backlash is FAR more powerful than any potential anti-gun backlash. As seen with the first AWB. Doesn't make sense to do that again.
Meanwhile, a bunch of the usual suspects get to rant and rave about gun control, whip up a frenzy about how active they are (like Bloomberg) and make a good show of it for their constituents. Hopefully, though, there won't actually be enough support for it on the floor when it comes down to a vote. I won't be surprised if ~something~ gets passed but it is likely to be watered down enough that it won't threaten the reelection of the moderates.
Hopefully. You never know until it actually gets down to that vote. If we have another tragic shooting between now and then it could shift the landscape dramatically.
