What are you using and why. Thanks people.

I use clear glasses when I shoot.  Clear lets the maximum amount of light thru, meaning that my pupils contract to minimum size, thus maximizing depth of field, which gives a superior sight picture.

I tried yellow lenses for a while to get the increased contrast, but even a mild yellow cuts 1/2 stop of light in overall brightness.  I tried the pink ones for trap, to help separate the clay pigeons from the background, but they drop even more brightness.  I felt that whatever increase in identification I was getting wasn't offsetting the reduction of DoF, and gave me an inferior sight picture.

i have a couple of pairs of maui jim's with high transmission lenses. it has a light tint which is good for indirect sun through overcast weather. green and brown really pop with these lenses, perfect for the range. its kind of like those lame commercials a few years back advertising the "HD" driving glasses. similar concept, just high quality maui jim branded ones that are made in japan. amazon or ebay has some for less than 150.

On the various Maui Jim sunglasses I own, I normally use Neutral Gray or HCL (bronze) tint lenses at the Ukumehame Firing Range. The HT (High Transmission) tint lenses in my Maui Jim Peahi glasses is great on overcast days or early morning or late afternoon periods. I also like the G15 tint lenses on my Ray Ban sunglasses.

Thanks for the info. I was planning on getting a prescription set for the range. Any ideas of styles. Was looking at some Oakley wraparounds. Good or bad idea.

Tried yellow and orange safety lenses; did NOT dig the color distortion.

Ended up with Wiley X Blinks with Transition lenses.

Lenses are clear when dark, "light" tint when overcast, "full" tint in direct sunlight.

Very happy with them, but I do wish the Transition lenses afforded darker lenses in "full" tint mode.

Just looked it up will see if the place I go has them. If not ware did you pick yours up at.

I use Rudy Project Rydons with polarized ImpactX lenses that are photo chromatic (adjust to UV exposure). I have one for sunny days, which I use pretty much all the time and a lighter one that I can use for indoor ranges. They have an excellent lens replacement policy as well for scratches or damage. $24.95 flat even when my lenses are around 4-5x that amount. I've replaced them once already.

I used to use a couple of Maui Jim Sport sunglasses, but they got all scratched up. I have a couple of Oakley as well and they work great too.

thats good to know about their low cost replacement, i should check out that brand.

maui jim used to replace their sport line lenses for only 35, but now its flat rate 50 for all lenses. i think thats lame because i know the st glass and their evolution lenses cost more than the polycarbonate!

I was on a golf trip to Kona a few weeks ago and the nose pad on a pair of Maui Jims came off.  No problem, bought some super glue and should be GTG.  But no.  We were BBQ'ing and of course drinking.  We were leaving the next afternoon, but after one last round.  After a night of drinking, before going to bed I decided to try to glue the nose pads back on.  I thought I did a good job at the time, but when I put them on the next morning, there was super glue smears all over the lens.   

This one pair was pretty beat up already and I was planning on replacing them soon anyways, but still.  Dum dum.

rack was almost cleaned out
but the funny thing was that there were at least 3 empty clear cases for the glasses
i guess people are shoplifting $4.97 safety glasses nowadays
(they didn't have any clear ones- just yellow orange and tinted)

Yellow/amber - "increases" light, things look brighter
Red - increased contrast
Smoke - decreased light

That's your basic choice.  I do like amber a lot.  Red to me doesn't really make that much of a difference compared to a smoke lens.

I use my Oakley's...had them since Afghanistan. Seem to work just fine for me! I had PRK done on my eyes a few years back and since then, my eyes are really sensitive to the sunlight. I can't shoot with clear or yellow lens.

I use the same Oakleys that I wear every day.  I'm not sure of the lens tint, but it is slightly amber rather than smoke, and it gives a decent enough contrast on all but the most overcast of days.  I also keep a pair of clear, and full amber glasses in my bag, but I honestly can't remember the last time I used either of them.  Non polarized.
