This thread has been extremely helpful as I'm reapplying for my carry permit and I will be including, as enclosures to the application, printouts of every violent encounter that occurred in the last year, outside of the home, on Oahu (read: all incidents that COULD HAVE happened to me and left me without a means to defend myself). I have 47 enclosures thus far, so that should be fun. I figure if they're going to say no, I might as well make them feel dumb for saying "...the police department should be contacted immediately so that proper action may be initiated."

- Alex
I haven't applied before, but I did get the command letter certifying that I meet the training requirements.  Then I sort of ran out of steam and was just kind of kicking around, waiting for the results of the lawsuit.   :-[  But I suppose it's kind of my duty to be a PITA to the firearms division, so I'll be applying.  I'd like to attach a copy of that enclosure, as well, if you don't mind sharing.

Sure, I'll try to scan it into PDF format tomorrow. If it's too big of a file, then we'll find a way to meet up so that I can give you copies. I honestly don't think it really matters whether or not you have the enclosure, they're still going to say no, but I suppose it can't hurt.

I'm sure you're right.  If you can get it scanned, cool, if not, that's ok, too.  They're not going to read it anyway , I just figured if you had an electronic copy I could throw that in my application, as well.

Note to self... Don't move to Wahiawa

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Man arrested in fatel Waikiki shooting

http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/133297708.html

Wonder if this was a self defense case, or just a drunken brawl.
Tonight's news said the suspect is a body guard or something like that.

The StarBulletin reported he was a LEO from the State Department assigned to Diplomat protection or security. They (the State Department) are pretty quite about it. He is still in custody so I am guessing something wasn't quite right in terms of a "good shoot" but, that being said, it is possible it was a legitimate use of force for self-defense.....

The DSS is VERY well trained. I have a feeling that this was a good shoot but the authorities are a) having trouble understanding the concept of Disparity of Force and/or b) trying to keep the pubic happy by giving the appearance of doing due diligence.

This why I do not go downtown. Too many people out to rob, harass, etc.  I swear I read a message weekly detailing some mitliary guy that god beat up and robbed by a group down in that area.

Apparently the shootee had been drinking and was harassing people.  4 on 1 = disparity of force in my book.  Nobody knows the details,

check out this idiots comment.

Should the man, not boy, have been shot dead? I wasn't there but I'd still say no. Should that same man and his group of friends been harassing one lone person. No. Does allowing yourself to become overly intoxicated excuse you from the mistakes you make? No. Is the federal agent allowed to carry a weapon when off duty? Yes. Did the agent go to far. I wasn't there but I'd still say yes. Was that agent afraid for his life. I wasn't there but I know I would be.  :wtf: Who created the problem? The men who harassed the agent. Who's responsible for the death? The agent, the man who was shot, and his friends who helped him create the problem in the first place. Everyone who was involved needs to accept the fact that they are at fault for this tragedy.
