Two men attempted to rob Poseidon jewelers yesterday, and auntie thwarted the crime. Sgt. Kim should carefully analyze the backpack that was recovered for DNA evidence. Crime forensics in HI are not as "state of the art" as the mainland. Police need to capture criminals, otherwise faith in law enforcement declines to the point where concealed carry is the only defense. I also recommend that auntie equip herself with a 4K body cam, and start carrying a Taser starting Jan. 1.

In the meantime, Homeland Security is finally starting to get results in normal crime investigations, because they helped to arrest two fugitives on the mainland.

A national wave of robberies in retail stores has led to some of these crimes being linked to organized crime. Could the Mafia be establishing a foothold in Hawaii? Bring back Five-O.

Would not be surprised if these two guys escaped custody once they are flown back to Honolulu. We seem to show too much aloha to criminals.

Breaking news: Old man found encased in concrete in Hawaii Loa Ridge home. Not the richest home in the neighborhood, but valued at $2.1 million, which is not chump change. This is in a gated community, with video cameras that are on 24/7. Probably evidence of tons of hanky-panky liaisons and shady gambling too, just like in a Hawaii Five-0 episode early in that TV series.

Quote
His body was found in a standalone bathtub covered in concrete. Coffee grounds were on top of the concrete, likely to hide the smell of decomposition.

Reminds me of a Harry Bosch novel, The Concrete Blonde, where the deceased was a woman.

According to HPD, the murder suspect used a belt to strangle the victim, and attempted to make the death look like a suicide by slashing the old man's wrists. The alleged killer tried to escape to Mexico while he was in Los Angeles.

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2022/11/15/string-robberies-around-ala-moana-center-prompts-safety-warning-holiday-shopping-begins/

A manhunt is underway following a string of brazen daytime robberies in and around Ala Moana Center, prompting experts to underscore vigilance as the holiday shopping season begins.

Witnesses say the suspects appear to be teenagers and that they were armed with a machete.

Assault outside Mililani supermarket
now an attempted murder investigation,
HPD says

By "supermarket," they mean Walmart.

Quote
MILILANI, Hawaii (KITV4) -- An assault that left two people injured in Mililani is
now being investigated as an attempted murder case, Honolulu Police say.

One person has been arrested after police were called out to a report of an
aggravated assault in the Mililani Walmart parking lot located in the 95-600
block of Lanikuhana Avenue just after 9 a.m.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS) confirmed to KITV4 that they
transported two patients from the scene – one patient, a 37-year-old woman was
in critical condition and a 40-year-old man was in serious condition.

According to EMS, the woman was run over by a car and then assaulted after
being hit. The man was treated for multiple injuries sustained after he too was
assaulted, EMS reported.

Honolulu Police say the woman was injured after being struck by a car and the
man was injured while assisting the woman.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries he
sustained during his arrest, HPD says.

Neither the suspect nor the victims have been identified. Investigators have not
said what led up to the attack.

This is a developing story. Check back with KITV4 for more information.

About the same time I saw the Walmart attempted murder report on my Ring doorbell Neighbors app, I also saw a report of a stabbing in the first block of Lanikuhana.

KHON2 and HawaiiNewsNow both reported on the Walmart incident.  Neither say anything about a stabbing.

The person posting this did add a disclaimer: This incident has not been confirmed.

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2024/09/01/4-people-are-dead-following-apparent-shooting-west-oahu-police-sources/

Officials say multiple suspects tried to flee when the suspect opened fire, striking the victims.
HPD said at some point, a 42-year-old male resident of the home fatally shot the suspect with a handgun.
The 42-year-old male resident who shot the suspect has been arrested for second-degree murder.

Man rams cars with front end loader.
Man opens fire on unarmed civilians.
Resident shoots suspect  stopping him from killing others.
Resident arrested for 2nd degree murder.

Am I missing something ?

Sounds like a complicated situation. Perhaps the man that ended to shooter was the initial aggressor?  Sounds like a neighbor dispute gone wildly wrong.

I’d bet they was having and bash out party, probably a regular occurrence, blocking some dudes driveway,  dude probably called the police 50x previous, yet nothing was done. Dude might have gone over and told them to move their vehicles, they attacked, dude had enough and went nuts.

I don’t know anything about this particular incident, but in my minds eye, that’s how I see it playing out.

HPD hasn't arrested the last several legit self-defense shooters, at least the clear cut ones, so there's probably a lot going on here.  When a guy drives a loader with 4 drums of fuel into a house while shooting you know there's gotta be a lot going on.

News reported a simmering feud between neighbors.

I guess the pot boiled over.

Would increased police presence have prevented this from happening?

There's no love anymore.  No respect.  No compassion.

Increased police presence isn’t going to do anything if the police are powerless to react.  If they can’t do anything, nothing is going to get better.

Crime runs rampant because there is zero consequences for criminals.

I've lived in communities like Mililani, Waipahu and Kalihi. Neighbors have no care about noise anymore. Houses are closer together. Loud karaoke parties on weeknights, loud gatherings, and random fireworks. Mililani and where I live in Waipahu have rec centers for parties and the like but the neighbors I have had don't care about their fellow neighbors. People speak about "aloha" but don't act on it. It's just an empty word like R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Current culture is all about M-E and A-I-N-O-K-E-A. If you get in selfish people's way of being an ass of a neighbor you are wrong (oppressive, racist, mainland attitude etc.)
