Talk about HPD and it's gun-ownership-discouraging policies. Poor guy wasted all his time, excitement, and money for at least 2 weeks. If it was illegal it should have stopped before even entering the shop. THEN, if THAT failed, when he brought the information in to wait 2 weeks.

What's the point of gun registration if the registering department have no idea what you're registering, other than to make the process long and seemingly insurmountable to discourage ownership? Not to mention it solved a grand number of zero crimes since it's inception.

Gun control is not about guns, its about CONTROL
Relax, I've banned myself..

I know. And there's absolutely no excuse for this to have happened to that guy other than pure negligence on the firearms deparment end.

lol I don't know why that makes me angry so much. Probably because I know what the anticipation is like and I've drove down to the damned department on my 1 hour lunch break from Waikiki and waited in the lines and paid the parking fees to comply with their ridiculous registration goon-laws. As the sole dictator of how us "2nd class citizens" can exercise our 2nd amendment, we're supposed to trust these people with all our personal information. Why leave so much power and responsibility with such an incompetent department.

From what has been said Here, SEC has to shoulder a large part of the Blame for Not knowing the Law concerning  Assault pistols.

Now to see what happens and How Far this will be going, Legally and Politically.

Lots of fuel for the fire here.  Nice timing, just before Christmass and just before Legislature convenes.......

Lots of finger pointing going to happen, I thinks....

If it were me, I think some dealer would be reimbursing me. I mean ultimately, they would have been the first in the chain to stop it; one shouldn't sell an item to someone if they knew it was illegal anyways. I also think he could have turned the firearm over to the FFL, instead of allowing confiscation.

Well, there is a lesson here.

WE ALL have to get More United with More gun owners joining HRA/NRA

Like I said, Numbers mean something to politicos.

HPD says that there are a Million guns registered, well lets get their owners joined up and voting.

BTW, how many of you were gun owners in 1990 or so when this Ban was set up?

As I recall there wasn't that much of an uproar by the gun community about it.

Maybe because each group Did not see themselves as being directly effected?

A little nibble here, a little nibble there and guess what, Nothing left standing......

As I said before, find a politco, get in and talk to him/her and help him when he's running.

Better Your guy than Their guy.....

EDIT, UPDATE:

Just heard that WGS brought one in and customer had it taken by HPD when he went down to register......

Also HPD had "slipped" and Several have already been registered by HPD.  Guess who's trying to get them now???

Makes you wonder What else HPD has mistakenly legally registered.....

If I was one of them, I'd have a sharp lawyer with a Big net.  I'd say a very News worthy item.  Going to make Dealer AND HPD look really bad
no matter what happens in the end.

Wonder Who has final say on what goes on or off the list.

What is HPD Chief going to say about this and officer training.....
Wonder what the legislature will do with this one?

If anyone finds out who this is, get them in touch with someone at our area. I want to make sure this stuff doesn't go without notice.

I hope if they ever came out with the official word that 30 round AR magazines are illegal and to be surrendered to the nearest authority figure, that would roundhouse kick the uninvolved gun owners in the face and wake them up to just exactly how oppressed they are as law-abiding citizens.

You should be aware that for the purposes of prosecution on the magazine charges, they already have an official position. There have been a couple interpretations by officials that have clarifed it to the point that if caught and prosecuted, you'd almost certainly loose in court.

Also be aware that other firearms, such as the Desert Eagle 50 falls into the "Assault Pistol" catagory as well because of the length/weight issue.....

Hmm. My parents had a neighbor who is a cop. My brother had an issue with a police officer who had followed him over the course of several blocks and created a list of violations to cite him with. When asking the neighbor cop what to do, he told my brother, when he writes the letter to the city, question the morality of a police officer who witnesses a traffic violation and then allows the driver to continue to endanger the public while tailgating him.

Perhaps something similar to that line could be used as far as defending yourself, should you be prosecuted for possessing a 30rd AR mag?

Sounds like my experience of trying to register a handgun that belonged to a decease relative. Went back 4 times, each time bringing in more paperwork  that they failed to tell me to bring in previously. I mean seriously, I ask what do I need to bring in to register, I get told to bring so and so paperwork. I do so on the next visit and then get told that I need to bring in more. WTF!

I think I may have been in there the first day that you were trying to work this out. Did I hand you a flyer for the CCW permit application?

raudi:  Ever consider filing a complaint with the Mayor's Office about the problems you have had with HPD in trying to get your relative's firearm registered?

You can call:  768-3493

Explain to the person that answers what happened and see what kind of answer HPD will give you about their competance...........

HRS 134-11 exempts police officers from HRS 134-7 through 134-9, except 1134-7(f), and 134-21 through 134-27
