Defensive tactics instructors also advocate a "front sight press" method as a faster way to put shots on a man sized target.
Most defensive tactics instructors also recognize that one can go to perfect sight alignment, or to Front Sight Press based on time, distance, and accuracy considerations.
When Jack Weaver introduced his "Weaver stance" for the first time, I'm sure some idiot said "that's dumb" but it is now practiced and taught worldwide.
Moral of the story here is just because you don't so something, doesn't make it "dumb"
