Should I buy a Ruger 10/22 takedown?
« on: June 20, 2013, 01:04:24 AM »
So I almost bit the bullet so to speak to go out and buy a Ruger 10/22 takedown at SA since they had them in stock,..
Been itching to find one since last year, but the gun ban rage was at full tilt making it impossible or hard to find,..

Then I thought to myself, why should i get one since I live in Hawaii or for self defense which is the primary reason I own a firearm(s)?  Hawaii isnt like other states where you can go to a secluded, heck even your backyard, to shoot or target train,...Also, even though ammo is expensive, IMO its better for me to train and target practice shooting my primary weapons with the ammo you'll use to defend yourself to best get familiar with your weapon and ammo.  I do this as much as i can afford to.  Also, even though 22lr ammo is cheap and light if i had to bug out, its just another caliber to buy and store which wont make sense for me in a defensive situation in my home and for which i wouldnt use.  I would most likely use my 870 6 round or better yet Moss 590 9 round 12 ga and have my glock 19 9mm as my primary sidearm.  If im upstairs in my bedroom, i have access to my safe which holds my Sig .45 and a .40, CZ sp-01 9mm, as well as a Colt AR 6920 for higher round situations.

Guess its really weighing the options, but i really dont think a shtf situation will occur in my lifetime to need a 22lr that my other current callibers can do at the cost of price and weight as again im bunkering down or for self defense in my home rather than head for the hills.

Whats ur opinions?

Of course you should.

Wen the most reliable semi automatic 22 ride ever created meets a new portable, ultra useful design the results are nothing short of spectacular.

Stop thinking about it and get one.

If SHTF is a concern, I can honestly tell you this.

22lr is an extremely useful round and at the same time, highly underrated as far as a hunting round.

With proper shot placement, there's damn near nothing you can't kill in Hawaii and most other states.

I think you should, for all the reasons KK covered.  Additionally, the correct answer to the question, "Should I buy [type of gun]?" is always yes.

Very true growing up with a 22lr on Molokai I've taken down a lot of deer and pigs with it . It's all about shot placement
Fast is fine , accuracy is final

A take-down rifle should be included in everyone’s arsenal and the 22LR takedown is a great choice for that unassuming back pack or gear bag. Can’t go on the city bus with a gun bag or hitch a ride. I know, I know you got a car, but for insurance what if something happens like SHTF and your stuck in traffic. Not to attract too much attention, you got your gear bag/backpack and your 10/22, (Papoose, Henry AR-7, Sub2000 9m)and for $20 you got 500rds. You’re good to go.

Think of them as a CCR.  Illegal but in a SHTF/WORL situation you gotta be armed without being noticed and sometimes a pistol just won’t do.

To confirm KK…

Will a .22lr Penetrate a Steel Entry Door from 200 Yards?

In my opinion, you can't have too many guns.  22's are economical, fun to shoot, and perfect for training new shooters.

If you like it, can afford it and have room for it in your safe(s), then buy it and more importantly, shoot it.  Your opinion may change favorably towards the .22 in time and with use, but if it doesn't then you can always sell it to me (or KK). ;)

A .22 cal/rimfire rifle is on almost every "top 10 must own firearm list".10/22 takedown is a very good choice.

Every time I go into SA I have to avert my eyes from the 10/22 takedown.

I need another rifle like a hole in the head... but that's one ~nice~ rifle....

I would get it just for the nifty bag.
I’m becoming clinically undepressed and thinking about beginning it all.

Do your homework and always shop around, check promo's etc.

Check Ruger's price, then see if you can get a better deal elsewhere.

Currently @ Ruger's with shipping a 25rd mag will cost you about $40.00

Currently @ Cabela's the same mag with promo's will cost you about $18.00.

32.99 mag
 +5.00sh
38.00total

-20.00 promo
18.00 final total

I got two, you should get at least one. 22's are on the list of 5 must have guns by a lot of you U tubers. The 22 take down gives you the ruger reliability, the reviews show they did it right, so you can get the best that also provides another concealed dimension. Yeah, and when you buy one and register with ruger, you get a 20 or 25 percent off your order deal up to $100, so you order your high cap mags and just plink until they show up. Mine took several months, but if the excess supply of available guns is any indication, the mags should be pretty available too. Then you tube how to file down the trigger part so you have a easier to cock rifle. I also got a ruger 22 full sized with wood stock, feels heavier and more substantial, and a mossberg plinkster bolt action which is lighter, but the take down gives you a 22 with so much more.
Not to mention, less  cost to practice, easier platform to get family on board, and easier to hide from the wife........
shf situation, you want a lower caliber for smaller prey,  Oh, and take down ability. Ruger 22's have 25 round mags, lot others only 10.
Regarding your concerns, mine too,  I daydream, envision being rushed by a huge person and imagine having time
to empty one or two 25 round mags into him, and wonder who wins.... I know my 556 would only take two to end things, but that wouldn't be as...... exciting?
my 5 cents, good ruck.

you should buy a takedown. its like a condom, you keep it in your pocket, but! you never use it.... think of it as a just in case insurance protection...

How come?  ;D
how come? because you only use a condom on a ratchet bitch, unless you looking for stragglers! another reason you put on a jimmy hat.... how can you tell you have a ratchet women? when your about to rounding off to home run and you spread those legs, and it smells like a creature that crawled or swam in the vagi and died, you know its ratchet. I highly advise you to seek another target, but if your in heat and cant pass it up! the jimmy hat comes into play! your insurance/condom kicks in to high gear.... IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN

NEW GUY if you need more explaining. lmk thanks... :shaka:
