Title: Drunken posting
Post by: Tom_G on September 02, 2011, 09:11:16 PM
My post, so I get to make the rules.  You are only allowed to reply if you are, at the time of your reply, in a state of "altered consciousness."  This state is, doubtless, and without question, the result only of your having imbibed legal substances that may, under certain circumstances, alter either your perceptions, or your willingness to express said perceptions.  Anyone who posts while clean and sober acknowledges, by so doing, that they are violating both the spirit and the letter of the aforementioned rule.  And, yes, I did type this after no fewer than 6 shots of a potent and popular almost-bourbon, and without the benefit of spell-check.  Boo-yah!

I cannot tread fully into a Alcohol, Tobacco  and Firearms thread. I gave up tobacco last year. But I bought a used 1911 National Match  Pistol today. It was about 9 cartons of cigarettes at todays prices.

Tom,

You should come to one of my BBQs. There is a computer in the garage and you can have your way with it!

Nothing wrong with a little inhibition...I think I have said this before. For obvious purposes, I cannot recall the link!

I think we all do...

Lets do it!

2a BBQ?

I will host and see where it goes. I will be responsible for bbq baby backs and pulled pork. The last time I hosted we had some folks eventually form the Hawaii Defense Foundation.

I suck at litigation, laws, and knowledge thereof, but I can throw a mean party!

Got plenty of parking.

Reload party? Survival discussion, general issues discussion? Let do it. The more the better!

Ok, I'm into my 2nd bottle of red wine for the nite, so I qualify again.

Tomorrow, I swear, I will go to the homebrew store and buy ingredients.  I am thinking a honey porter sounds about right for this group.  Assuming I follow thru and actually brew tomorrow afternoon, I need a minimum of 4 weeks.

And, I have to say, you fuckers better all come!

Wait, I'm drunk... is it ok to say "fuckers?"  I mean it in the most complimentary form of the word!

Ok, part of drunken posting means that you can not read previous posts.  While I can totally attend Oct 8, there is no chance of beer being ready.  What about Oct 29 or 30?  Or, if you are all actually thinking "OMG, I do NOT want to have to lie to Tom_G about his beer" then Oct 8 works for me.  Just fine.  Whatevahs.

¿Did I mention I am into my 2nd bottle of red wine?

¡Y quiero hablar Español!

Went to Costco earlier today.  I have no idea how I ever afforded keeping myself in liquor before the days of the Big Box Wholesalers.  Now restocked with lots of Jack, Bacardi, and New Amsterdam.  Already started working on the Bacardi supply!

Hello from the bottom of a gin and tonic.

Had a long friend counseling phone conversation. This one is in a rough spot and the conversations with this one usually go long so I settled in to sip. Damn good drink - left the tonic in the freezer just a little too long so it was slightly slushy. Made for an interesting twist. I remember... most of the conversation... :D

Aloha, my fellow locals.  I'm far, far away in NC at the moment, and I was browsing through the forum when I came across this...it's been 2 weeks from the last post, so I figured it could use a bump to the top...

Earlier today, I shot terribly on the range, scoring a 216 on the USMC KD course at Stone Bay.  I know it's a typical "excuse", but I do feel like I was screwed over with bad pit service.  I can still make Rifle Expert if I score high on "Table 2", but I won't get as high of a score as I hoped to get.

The weather sucks too.  This morning it was 34 degrees  :o  I've never been so miserable at a range.  The Marine Corps has a way of doing that, though...taking something you find fun and exciting, and turning it into a miserable experience.

Soooooo, I'm just drinking a few beers and relaxing after the terrible day at the range.. Tomorrow's gonna suck when I get up at 4am  :'(

I need to pound a few more before my 8 hours before formation hits...

Slightly inebriated yet again...

In the middle of an NRA Basic Handgun Instructor Course. I'm hoping I become a Certified Instructor vice an Assistant Instructor.

I feel I'm not doing extremely well, but it really won't bother me if I don't become a CI, as I signed up only to better myself and learn a thing or two about teaching so I'm not an A-HOLE at the range for bringing brand new clueless shooters to the range and teach them a thing or two beforehand. I just want to open up people's minds to firearms and try to get away from Hawaii's antigun culture.

I wish this course was on a different weekend...I typically am a very responsible drinker (I no longer drink to excess like the "college days"), but this week has been very depressing. I volunteered up to be an intramural shooter representing 2MARDIV HQ Bn, when a few days later, I was offered a chance to be demobilized and sent home early. Afterward, I was told it was a mistake...that someone said that in jest, but a boot Lieutenant took it seriously. Turns out we were told that to keep from F'ing off, and that everyone who signed up was going home within 7 days...except for the three in my platoon on the intramural group. I wanted to pull out all the stops and just binge to have fun and take my mind off it this weekend, but I know I must be responsible as firearms are being utilized.

I hope everyone else is having a good weekend...

So, do you know what happens when I neglect to keep my fridge stocked with tasty homebrew?  We end sup switching to other drinks when the beer runs out.  Tonight, it was mojitos.  Made with mint fresh from our garden, they are delicious.  And easy, easy to drink 4 (containing 6 shots of rum) between dinner and bedtime.  Ah, I love this feeling!

I remember when Rolling Rock was my brew of choice.  There was a place named Fun-O-Mat that was a combination laundromat & bar.  The owners had wished for a place like it when they were in college, and made it happen.  And it TOTALLY came to us "33."

However, tonight I'm still reveling in the novelty of the maple bourbon sour.  And playing cool songs on my internet radio station.

Again, it's been a while...met the requirements finally and thought this thread needed a bump to top.

Anyhow, here's a pic for all you drunks to chuckle at. I'm on "duty" guarding government ammunition and was at the point of not caring. Anyhow, it was at about maybe 2 in the morning and very hot. Why bother putting on long sleeves and trousers for an hour?

ETA: This pic of me on duty was last year...just to clarify: No alcohol was consumed or present while guarding government assets!!  ;D

Today kinda sucked, so I stole some of flygirl's liquor...it's some weak girlie drink, but it'll do for now.

Got up early today, got my books together, and pulled the bike out...it's been giving me trouble with a flat rear tire, so the rear inner tube was replaced.  Today, the front tire was flat.
Made it to my bus stop literally seconds too late and watched the "C" bus take off for Kapolei.  No big deal if I had a bike, but it's a 40 minute walk to Hangar 111 from the bus stop.  Missed class.
Flygirl's been stressing all day because her dad went under for surgery.  Good thing is he's alright.
The VA paid the college my GI Bill monies a while ago now, and I have yet to receive my refund..
Guy who "sold" me a two sets of aviation headsets MONTHS ago can't be reached.  He offered a refund a couple weeks ago, but nothing heard.
Now, I'm selling a firearm...not the firearm I'm unimpressed with, but still...letting go of a gun for the first time..

Eh.  Life's still good.

But this is a SPECIAL OCCASION!! Any other past or present skydivers on the forum? Well, you guys understand. Today, Felix Baumgartner made a freefall skydive from 128,000 feet. As with any other skydiving "firsts," BEER!! Not to get drunk, just to give a proper skydivers' celebration to Felix..

http://2ahawaii.com/index.php?topic=2116.new;topicseen#new (http://2ahawaii.com/index.php?topic=2116.new;topicseen#new)

No English dictionary has been able to adequately explain the difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED. However, in a recent linguistic conference held in London , England , and attended by some of the best linguists in the world: Samsundar Balgobin, a Guyanese, was the clear winner. His final challenge was this: Some say there is no difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED. Please explain the difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED in a way that is easy to understand. Here is his astute answer:

"When you marry the right woman, you are COMPLETE. But, when you marry the wrong woman, you are FINISHED. And when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are COMPLETELY FINISHED!"His answer was received with a standing ovation lasting over 5 minutes.

It was not your fault.

It was the mopeds fault.

Mopeds are dangerous.

It was also the fault of all the television and movies you've ever watched depicting moped accidents.

I know this is the Drunken Posting Thread. I am not drunk. But I am feeling quite out of it. I woke up at 8am yesterday and I have not had any sleep since. I am currently at work and have working a 10 hour shift. I have not slept more than 4 hours a night for the last 5 nights. I probably won't be able to go to sleep until tonight around 8 or 9pm.

So while I am not drunk I feel like I am hung ovver cuz the only thing keeping me awake right now is McD's crappy coffee.

I ordered some fun items from Amazon, including a mortar and pestle and a lime/lemon/orange juicer.  I have a mint patch in the backyard, and a Costco-sized bag of limes.  And I make amazing mojitos.  Number three is every bit as delicious as the first two were, which is not a good sign for tomorrow morning!  Hell, at least I'll deserve it.

Is the Guinness on tap a lot better than what's in the stores?  I've never tried the draft, but didn't really like the store stuff.  I do really like Smithwicks though and it's become one of my favorites.

I don't have a genuine Guinness glass at home (yet), and there's something nice about having a bartender pour you a cold glass of Guinness after a day of hard work.

Chad is the MAN!  He used to always draw clovers on the Guinness head with the pouring beer, but he made bats, jack-o-lanterns (Halloween), turkeys (Thanksgiving), and now, Christmas trees.  Every Guinness served by Chad has his personal art in it!

EDIT: Sorry, the picture was right-side-up on my computer.  IDK why the forum tilted it 90º left.

The pic comes out right side up when you tap on it.  May just have to finally make it down to Murphy's to try their Guinness draft.  Would definitely like to try the Smithwicks draft also if they got it.  Enjoying a few Longboards @home right now though.

I had a Black and Blue (Guinness Draft poured over a Blue Moon Belgian White Ale) Saturday Night. It was quite good.  :D :D :D I should have taken a picture of it. It was very tasty looking!

They also had a Black and Red which was a Guinness Draft poured over Kilian's Red Ale. Next time....

Drink More Guiness !
Try them  "depth charge " style with a shot of amaretto.
One shot of amaretto is enough for two draft guiness. :geekdanc:
Just pour half the shot in the glass and see how smooth they go down.  :-*

WARNING:
By "see how smooth they go down"  means you will know how smooth they were when you

This time, it is really, genuinely, truly not my fault!  I was heading to bed when my boo came home.  She wanted a drink, so of course I stay up to drink with her.  After all, it's rude to let a lady drink alone.  I make a round of martinis (1 shot olive, 4 shots gin).  I sip mine as we watch Columbo.  Yes, we watch Columbo.  Get over it.  About 15 minutes into the episode, she says "Sorry, I have to go to bed now."  I tuck her in, come back to the couch and discover she hasn't touched her martini!  I can't let it go to waste, right?  Right??

Johnny Walker Double Black.

Quote
Taking cues from the unparalleled flavors of Johnnie Walker Black Label, Master Blender Jim Beveridge struck out to craft a blend that would take the intensity of Black to unexplored territory.  He started on Scotland's vast shores, rediscovering the powerful west coast and subtle east coast scotches integral to today's world-renowned Black Label.  After hand-selecting a number of whiskies defined by hints of smoldering charcoal, crisp ash and burnt timber, we barreled our blend to mature in deep-charred old oak casks. The result is an unquestionably smokier, more intense experience, but with deep, dark roots in a rich blend that changed the world: Johnnie Walker Black Label. Simply put, it is Black, amplified.

Blended to break the rules, Double Black boasts an edgy confidence in flavor that separates it from its balanced relative, Johnnie Walker Black Label. It is not simply a darker version of Black Label, for it cannot be defined by color alone. Nevertheless, the two blends are intrinsically linked. As any discriminating drinker can see, they share DNA - in their smoky nose, unmistakable spice and slight tones of dried fruit.

But the similarities end there. With this blend, the exclusive taste trumps all. It's no wonder whisky critics and aficionados have snatched up the limited number of bottles produced, making it even more elusive and mysterious. But rest assured, the "mischievous brother" won't be gone for long - just remember that flavor of this intensity takes time and great care to craft.

While its finish will undoubtably linger, Double Black itself will not. Its stunningly small run is characteristic of a blend best suited to the most ambitious and adventurous Johnnie Walker enthusiasts, eager to explore another side of Black.

But our Double Black locator (above) will make sure you've secured a bottle of your own before this rare blend, like a billow of smoke, quietly fades away.

Smithwick's is somewhat similar.  While it's actually an Irish Red Ale, it has some similarities to Newcastle.  It has a little more crispness though, and not as much of the caramel sweetness that Newcastle seems to have at times.  Goes on sale fairly often too.

The mint patch is going gangbusters.  This happens twice a year; at the beginning of growing season, and again at the end.  When your mint patch is just beautiful beyond compare, one has no choice but to indulge in mint drinks.  Tonight, it has been mint julips.  I pity da fool that doesn't appreciate mint, sugar, and bourbon!
...
Damit, you a bad influence. I ran out of bourbon. :(
would jack Daniels work??
I got plenty jack d.

UPDATE: No Wild Turkey. Anywhere. Hawaii is a bunch of communists.

It's strange to me, but no less than three people, and possibly more, have approached me IRL  this week and commented on my lack of participation in this thread.  Well, here s what I have to say... JOHNNY WALKER BLACK!!!

Look, I get it.  Not everybody is into alcohol, the same way not everybody is into firearms, Democrats, or heterosexuals.  I really couldn't care less.  But anyone who is feeling froggy, I'll buy the bottle and be joyful to sit across the table from you as we try to empty it.

Bring it!  Please!!

At the HRA fun shoot this weekend, not one but two regulars made comments about my recent relative silence in this thread.

"Huh, am I not drunk enough?"  I wondered.  "Maybe I need a martini."

And, to the best of your knowledge, it took me two days to get around to bartendering!

(And martinis are delicious!)

It's been a really good weekend.  Saturday, played with my boo all day, and she took me on a surprise date that night.  Today, I spent at the range teaching new shooters, then came home to a delicious dinner and ice-cold martinis waiting.  I've been rode hard and put away wet, but I am one very happy Tom!

Now, maybe I can manage one Fettercairn Fior before bed...

The delicate love of a fair young maid
And the love of a staunch young man
The love of a baby unafraid
Has existed since time began.
But the most wonderful love,
The love of loves much greater than that of a mother
Is the tender, trusting intimate love
Of one drunken sod for another!

In 2014, we took a summer trip to Scotland, Ireland, Wales. We made a point of stopping at, and sampling the wares of, each distillery we came across. In Scotland, that was a challenge. But we stumbled across Fettercairn distillery, and they make some delightful products, including Fior. According to the label, it's Gaelic for "fire." We brought a bottle back and shared it with Scotch friends at a John Burns party, then were sad that it was gone. So, I found a company to ship it here. Pricey, so it had to be for a special occasion.

For Christmas 15, I ordered in a bit.

Same for this year.

I guess that qualifies for a tradition! Anyway, the rules are simple. No more than 2 drams in an evening, but no more than 1 dram unless there's call. Everything after that has to be less expensive. Tonight, I chased my dram with Hellcat Maggie. I'm sure that I'm violating some cosmic balance by chasing Scotch with Irish Whisky, but my tongue loves them both, and my stomach kinna tell th' differance!

Harumph. This thread has become far too quiet.

There's been some recent drama in my life of the having-to-move variety. Our new digs are far nicer than the old, so that's pretty cool. And we've upgraded our capacity for making both homebrew and fizzy water. Fill-in-the-blank-and-soda has become a staple!

Only 10% of your membership will ever do anything. and only 10% of them will do a second thing. And only 10% of them will keep doing something. But, you know what, "they" have the same numbers. Quite lamenting the fact that most people on your side are chaff, not wheat. Why? Cause most people on "their" side are chaff too!

If you're on private property, like an apartment complex, call the management company to have them towed.

If they are parking on a public street, call the cops to have them ticketed and towed.

You don't have the authority to have them towed unless you own the car or the place where they are parked.  That would be auto theft.

You can also try to catch them outside and talk to them.  Having them towed could result in retaliation, since it'll cost them big bucks to get the car back.  And if they have no insurance, current registration and current inspection, it could really get expensive for them!

I'd start with a friendly request and gentle warning.  If they do it again, at least you tried.  Time to go nuclear!!

There are people on this island who seem to think they can cow anyone they want, which lets them get away with whatever they do.  You see them cutting in lines of traffic, leaving shopping carts in the space next to where they parked, and so on.  They expect everyone else to be sheep, too timid to confront them.  When someone does, they are all apologetic and expect that to excuse their behavior.

They know better, but they live the "AINOKEA" life.

And the Lord sayeth,

if thou drinkest excessive amounts of alcohol on the day of my risening, and lookest at facebook,

thou shalt have an upheaval of irritation of thine mind, from thus idiots and pussies, that shall whine, on all manner of issues that have no such bearing on life, and have no such effect on any such being,

yet have existential and mystical knowlege of every aspect of life, that they will thus claim full clairvoyance on thine own existence.

Yet, sayest thou, ye shall still endure a hangover, even tho thou shall endure such burden.

Thus sayeth the Lord.

I had a few just now.
I turn on my tablet and see all the bitchin and moaning about cops and shitty government and politics.

One of my better coworkers came from Pakistan. One of the first things he told me was that he was disappointed in America.
It's not as wonderful as he was led to believe.
Then he said that for all it's flaws, it's still better than 99% of the rest of the world.

My son has been to more countries than most people can fathom.... something like 30 or 40 I think.
He can't wait to get back here and settle down. That tells me something.

If I was king of the world I would rather up all the bitchers and protesters and deport all of them to a better place.

Cheers
