Mahalos for the heads-up... These are definitely not collectors type rifles, but hopefully still fun shooters. Guessing they're old Traditions builds maybe? Probably pre-2000 kit builds.

Aloha All,

Did a search but didn't find this addressed... What should be done with old muzzle loading firearms?

My father passed a couple years ago, and now that we're moving I just ran across two or three black powder rifles in a case. These are nothing fancy, just the old kit guns one could build & shoot. I'm not a black powder shooter at all & really don't have the desire to take these up to CONUS. What options are there for this type of firearm? Torch cut maybe, turn in to HPD? I'd give them away but really don't know how they shoot, or if they're even still functional. Any guidance appreciated!

2021 was quite the dry spell firearms/shooting wise so had to play catch up at year's end. Finally got a longer range budget shooter put together and picked up an SD556 as well. Enjoy them both :shaka:

Only additional input(s) that maybe helpful is the larger chains, ie. Sportsman's, Bass Pro, etc., may not sell to you based on their company policy covering sales to out of state customers (FFL transfer required). I have bought long guns without hassle from Cabela's in both Utah & Arizona as well but now that they're part of Bass Pro that maybe a no-go sadly. However, I've purchased several long guns, as recently as November, from two or three LGS in Vegas with no issues, EzPz. :thumbsup: Do some research as some of the bigger shops gouge like a MF. Again there at least a couple/three that are less travelled and one can find some pretty solid deals, even with the brutal sales tax.

What are you looking to have done?  I can check my notes on who I researched locally.  A couple of the well known local smiths that I contacted said they don't work on AKs, at least what I was looking go have done.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up... Looking at swapping the muzzle brake on my Beryl (Wz.96 clone), it's pressed on & secured with roll pins. So pretty straight forward one would hope  ;D

A first for me, finally took a couple of my .308s out for a very enjoyable desert shoot. I'm pretty darn impressed that both hit consistently out to 1000m. Thankfully conditions were near perfect, which certainly helped a ton (as did a good range finder & D.O.P.E. app). Still really happy the old standby could hold its own (was shooting 168gr HPBT). Sadly I'm now addicted, going to need another trip to Vegas soon, a move maybe in order as well! ;D

I'm in the process of doing the same... Using FedEX, have used them before (as well as UPS) without issue. Wondering if there's anyway to unregister my post 94 stuff once they're out of the state.  I'm betting that won't be possible. :grrr:

Using a Leupold Mark 5 (TMR/MRAD) on this rig. Really like it, and certainly helps my old eyes as well  :thumbsup:
