What's the dumbest thing you've heard said about guns.

Whether in person or on a forum or whatever.

The thing I hear a lot and absolutely drives me batty is:
 "just buy a shotgun. You don't need to train or even aim it. Just pull the trigger and you'll blast everything in a 10 foot area."

Mine is probably the idea that a person shot with a 45 will do a backflip and die instantly.  It doesn't stand up to even the most minute scrutiny: if a 140lb deer can take a hit right in the wheelhouse from a 150 grain rifle bullet traveling at 3,000fps; flinch, jump, and run 50 yards, how the hell do you expect a 250lb bad guy who's significanly angrier than the deer to take a hit from a 230 grain pistol bullet travelling at 900fps and get blown off his feet? 

EDIT: What's even worse for me, is every single thing I've ever read on the Brady Campaign's website, which I read often, because I'm a masochist and I believe in knowing the enemy.  Plus I think my old lady gets some of her talking points from them, so I try to keep abreast of the latest lies so as not to be taken in by an ambush.

Pick anything ever said on shows like "Son of Guns" or "American Guns".  Responsible gun owners and gun rights advocates should remain well clear of these....... people.

Most times the thing that usually irritates me most on forums is when someone asks for "first buy" advice the brand/model fanboi's all dog pile with whatever they have or want to pimp.  I give advice if I'm early enough in the thread but usually get drowned out buy fanboi pimps anyway.  Geberally one should get a bunch of differnt ones in their hands and feel them out.  Then considering what the intended purpose or how they expect to employ such a tool should be factored in.  Budget and so on and on but the blizzard of brand and model recommendations do nothing to to provide a potential buyer with any useful informatuion.  Those brands and models MAY work for those posters and their hands, budget, applications and skill sets.  However, they are not universal in application to EVERYONE else on the planet.

This is terrible advice.  Just buy a Glock, dude.  They're the hands-down best for everything and everyone.

Even that is overthinking it: Newtons 3rd Law, "To every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction." If I don't get knocked on my ass by firing said firearm, then there isn't enough energy to knock the recipient on their ass.

I was helping my buddy by minding the gun shop while he was out to get some lunch.  A customer walked in and asked me a question with a serious look on his face.  He said, “What caliber is a 9mm Glock 17?”
There was another time when we had a possible meth user who came into the shop and presented us with a used firearm he wanted to sell/consignment.  We asked him if it was his.  He boasted by saying it was acquired from his neighbors house.  Little did he know that one of our other patrons, who was a local police officer, was standing next to him in front of the counter. Our local LE politely told him that they received a call about a robbery in the area were one of the stolen items was an chromed STI 2011 with a personal SN.  Funny thing is, the pistol he was trying to sell was a chromed STI with the exact same SN.

In many cases of negligent discharges, the person involved says " I know that gun was unloaded "
That's why we always presume a gun is loaded and even an "unloaded" gun is loaded, because even an "unloaded" gun can shoot people.

It simply means that the person was wrong and didn't follow the rules of gun safety.

forgot to provide background on that one. it was for cali's open carry rule where they had to have an unloaded handgun in order to OC.
