If they invade Hawaii they would bomb Camp Smith and then Pearl Harbor. Camp Smith is a major communications site for the entire military. And pearl harbor is where they repair they're subs, ships and hickam is right next door.  I hate that thought being I work near there

if the invaders start rounding up the populace and killing people, then I would fight.

other than that I would sit back and watch. Im not gonna get involved in a fight that both "leaders" started and got the civilian people killed, because of their poor decisions and diplomacy.

Whenever I see this thread pop up I idly wonder what circumstances would prompt an invasion of Hawaii.

China seems the only party likely to invade and the most capable.  India has a large army, though I think their Navy would have a tough time getting them over here. I think the political and economic landscape would have to be radically different than it is now for an invading force to have some hope of actually taking Hawaii. The Chinese would also need a reason to do so since their policy has been largely isolationist for... forever. Their military seems largely geared for defense and... crowd control, shall we call it?

The reason I bring it up is that if Hawaii is actually invaded and it is serious enough that you want to pull the guns out... there might not be much of the U.S. to defend you.

My opinion is that the military would still be a huge and strong presence even if the rest of the world (and the mainland US) goes to pot, but its just a guess.

Who knows? Might be a fleet of sailing ships with a mad max army of apocalypse survivors that comes over the horizon. You can bet that rabble would find itself facing a forest of AR's, AK's and everything else. Even if they were welcomed at the beach (ho'okipa, remember? The Law of Hospitality?) there would be the forest of armaments in attendance to make sure things stay civil. Trade is good. Very good.

I dont see China pulling the trigger first militarily unless it has to do with Taiwan, China already spreading its influences through other means.

Doubt China would invade us unless they were coming to get more indentured servants since they basically own us.

If an occupying force got past our Navy. It Might be time to learn that language. I'm not gonna puff my chest and say Wolverines, but if they threaten my family, well, you all know what happens then.
If you stand up and salute the flag during the National Anthem, we'll probably get along just fine.

Here's the thing tho...Hawaii was important; back when ships ran on sail and/or coal, before planes could fly non stop round the world, before labor laws and unions and the constitution put an end to profitable agriculture.

Nowadays, we have tourism and Inouye, pretty much the only reasons why anyone has stuck around, including the military.

Hawaii has no resources, therefore it will not be invaded, ever.
Hawaii produces nothing worthwhile to justify invasion.
Hawaii is not targeted by any countries ICBMs.
Even terrorist could care less about Hawaii.

On topic, the best way I see to stop/resist an invasion would be, to not write letters, but to form community militias now.

You have got to be kidding?  You obviously have no knowlage of military history, strategic tactics, or have a realistic idea of what modern military equipment is capable of.

Warships need more than just fuel!  food, ordinance, spare parts, etc. A ship at war grinds through these things faster than fuel.. even back in wwII fighting ships had to had to resupply ordinance and consumable foodstuffs before they ran out of bunkerage. Just because a nuclear powered warship can run for years on its reactor, does not mean it doesnt need resupply. And while a civilian airliner can fly a great distance, even the longest ranged military aircraft  are limited by how much arms they can carry for the amount of fuel they can hold. Only the Russians, the US, and Brittan ever developed large military jet aircraft with intercontinental range and enough payload to make it worth sending out into enemy territory.  Even with air to air refueling, nither china or north korea have aircraft that can reach hawaii with a useful ordinance load. So we really dont need to worry much about getting bombed. But china could glass us with an ICBM if they wanted to...
However... if the islands were taken intact...
The strategic value of the hawaiian islands cannot be understated naval assets alone would justify thier taking or neutralization. (lets not forget several airports with sufficent length runways to stage  large, ordinance laden strike aircraft out of...
There is pearl, barking sands, and several other high value targets that were deffinitely on Ivan's menu back during the great unpleasantness. Not primary targets, but after they glassed washington, NORAD, and the midwest missile fields and SAC bases (including guam)  next on the list would have been the deepwater ports on the us east and west coasts, pearl harbor, the cobra dane radar facility in alaska, and... barking sands.  So yeah, if we had a full on nuclear war with russia, we'd have been skullfucked. 23 or 4 russian SS23s would have done the job for the whole state, four 500kt MIRV warheads each, a mere quarter of the payload of a single DELTA IV sub.  The soviets had 18 of them by the way...
Chances are pearl is on china's menu, if things got stupid.  maybe not a primary target, but deffinitely  on the map.
One thing we dont really need to worry about is a full scale invasion... only a few countries still have the amphibious assault assets to land enough grunt to take a large target. All of them are allied with the us. (I would count russia as a limited ally at this point)  China's amphibious assets are limited,  IF they could get thier navy from mainland china to hawaii intact (not happening... our fast attack subs and aircraft carrrier battle groups would make mincemeat of the chinese navy) they could ( maybe) invade one island with a brigade sized force.. we can land entire fighting  DIVISIONS...  Hitting oahu with a small amphbious force backed up with airborne infantry would be a clever way to destroy your elite units for little gain before they were pushed back into the sea.
As for north korea,  thier navy and airforces are a joke... yeah... they have a big army... of mistreated conscripts. And at this point thier missile technology is equal to where the soviets and we were... in like the late 1950s. The north koreans are not dangerous to us at this point. Only thing imworry about with them is if they get suicidal/stupid and loft one at japan or south korea... we will have no choice but to respond in some fashion, and we dont want to send our boys back to korea to fight a ground war... not again.

I'm more worried about an invasion by our own government, then from an invading force from China or Russia.

From a certain point of view that's already happened...  :shaka:

In a seriousness, I prep more so for a long term supply cut off rather than an actual red dawn-esque invasion.  If any country DID want to take Hawaii over, the most obvious thing to do would be sever all ties to the mainland.  Then wait it out until we are all either starved and/or fighting each other for supplies.

That of course would be highly unlikely unless the mainland is in some incredible state of peril, emp/nuke etc...

My same basic contingency plan for a matson strike, zombie apocalypse, or if I lose my job and suddenly can't buy food for an extended period of time.

Q - excellent post.

I've spoken with a number of ex-special forces types and they all pretty much echo what you wrote. Evasion is a fantastic skill to understand and to have. Lethal force is part of it only if something has gone really wrong, but in that case you ~really~ need it and it is more about getting away than expertly killing all of your attackers. In every other situation... preparedness is more about having the supplies and skills necessary for sustaining life and conflict is to be avoided at all costs.

But, if one were to plan for an invasion 2a style there are some precautions one could take.

For example, confiscation would be likely if an invading army moved through your neighborhood and it would be wise to have a hunting firearm and ammo stashed away. If that firearm also works for defense so much the better but the more "battle ready" a firearm is the more likely they will come looking for it (and you) if they find and parse Hawaii's registration records.

Something I should think about more is neighborhood guards. What is the best way to set that up so that it is a) clear that an area is intending to defend itself from looting but b) not intending to harass an invading force that is moving through or nearby? We're a threat to you but we aren't threatening you, kind of thing. Not sure if or how that would work.

It is also essential that people should start to collect DIY books, medical books, military survival books, self-defense, farming etc.
Cannot take it with you on a bug-out but for your base camp a must have.

For your bug-out
Store them on your documents file or video files on your iphones and portable hard drives or thumb drives.
I use a WD that is just slightly larger than a credit card.

Now above all things...pray for your survival.
Many scoff at what Christians people talk about, but the end days that they talk about is truly horrifying. It started when Israel became a Nation.
The tribulation will be the mother of all oppression. The anti-christ will behead many who do not worship him.

Everything POINTS to this era.

The Mayan calender and several others like it was not talking about the end of the world, but the ending of an ERA.
Add that with the Christian prophecies,  the Muslim prophecies,  the new age 5th dimension "Age of Aquarius" + Nostradamus,
we are in the ERA of era's.

Well where there is smoke, there is fire, something is happening, conspiracy theory or not.

The biggest evidence is, why is the government preparing for it? Bullets anyone? Many nations in upheaval but they call it spring, Hollywood talks about it.

Crap and debris is all over, waiting for the spark that will lite everything up in flames.

No one wants to talk about it, but you can feel it.

The bible says that it is so bad that it warns, "woe unto those with suck."  Translation = very bad time to have a baby.

But pray and pray often because the bible says that if you should die, YOU can still live by looking to Jesus
and do not be afraid of those that can kill you here on earth, FEAR him who can throw you into HELL.

sorry, but the truth hurts.
