Maybe. But there's a shitload of people who still haven't reg'd under the assumption there was no definitive time requirement.
I was there earlier this month, and the huge white cop was asked- he admitted there was no time requirement, but told the guy, "come in as soon as you can".
This is BS if they only giving 10 days, unless they grandfather the guys from earlier.
I doubt anyone will have their gun/s confiscated.
The law requires you to get a permit to acquire. Once acquired, all the hurdles have been navigated for possession/ownership.
For registration, if HPD is enforcing a 5-day, 10-day or some other time limit, they reportedly call you to give you a gentle reminder to come in and register. So, even if you busted the 5-days in the law before COVID, you didn't get your gun confiscated, and you damn sure didn't have to redo the PTA!
Imagine having to apply for another permit, take the permit to the person/dealer to sign, and also have the dealer re-send the firearm info to HPD again. There's no logical rationale for that.
Now, IF they decide you ignored your phone reminders, the law only requires them to charge you with a petty misdemeanor. That doesn't require confiscating a legally acquired firearm.
If they decide to make up their own laws and tell you to surrender the gun, THEN they may have a policy that requires you to go through the permit process again to retrieve it.
Basically, if you make the effort to register after being reminded, nothing bad will happen to you. If they don't remind you, you may not be on their list of expected registrations.
