Making excuses for sleepy Joe Biden?   ::)

That guy and rest of his family are nothing but bullies who have spent their whole lives getting everything they want.  Look at how he treats "average" Americans when his handlers aren't right there.  Example the exchange he had with the Michigan auto workers.

Bash Trump for all his buffonery, but to walk the fence and make excuses for Biden is beyond

I don't think they forgot about 9/11, there is just no need to be there. It has been 22 years, I don't need the president to show up every year for a kumbaya moment. He has other more important duties.

The country doesn't function based on your needs.

Biden is the first P/Resident since 9-11 to be absent from either the NYC memorial or the WH on the anniversary.

There were almost 3,000 people murdered that day.  That doesn't include the tens of thousands whose health was impacted from the air at Ground Zero.

Think about how many family members, friends, lovers, co-workers and acquaintances that number represents.

I lost a co-worker and a dozen acquaintances at the Pentagon that day.  I spent a month in Hawaii plus 3 weeks in Virginia helping to recover the computer data lost in the Chief of Naval Operations command center as well as setting up uff-site backups to prevent such losses in the future.  That involved setting up a mirror of the database servers in an underground facility nearby (Dick Cheney's "undisclosed location").

Some of us have a direct link to the carnage of that day and were deeply involved in what came after -- including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Maybe if you experienced loss from that day or served in the military in the Gulf, you would expect the P/Resident and Commander in Chief to "never forget".

It's a shame there are people like you.  A whole generation has been born and become adults after the attacks.  They never experienced the horror of that day, nor the unending wars that ensued.  If you're telling them remembering the fallen and studying the event no longer matters, then we are absolutely destined fo see another 9-11 on US soil.  It's just a matter of time.

Most likely no one in the current administration of the White House has lost someone in the 9/11 attacks.

Maybe if they contemplated about what the target was when those brave heroes on Flight 93 brought that plane down in the fields of Pennsylvania.  It is believed one of the targets was possibly the White House.

The current administration displays empathy but lacks true empathy.

Coach Bennett

I miss teaching.
Especially on days like today.
But, if I was still teaching…
this is what I’d say:
You don’t remember the day…you weren’t even born yet. Wow. That’s crazy.
You can stop writing. You don’t need to take notes. You won’t be tested on this... not in my classroom. I’m not going to tell you stories. Not about that day... not now.
Some day I will... but not today.
You’ll get stories from someone else and from the TV and radio and newspapers. None of you listen to the radio do you? You should. You should read newspapers too. They have some in the library.
Anyway, here’s your homework.
Relax. Just listen.
I want you to walk a little softer today. I want you to talk with people you don’t normally talk to and I want you to listen a little more. Especially to people you don’t normally listen to. Because today isn’t a normal day. It’s not like yesterday and today won’t be like tomorrow.
So please... before you move… look both ways. People are going to be coming at you from the left and the right. Just offer them a little kindness. It helps sometimes and if it doesn’t help… well, you’ll be kind and that’s a good thing. We need more kindness today.
I’m almost done.
Less shouting too. You know what?
How about no shouting? Yeah, no shouting.
And let’s hold open a few more doors for other people. Don’t honk your horn either unless it’s to help. Slow down for the yellow lights and stop for the red ones. I want you all safe and you’ll keep other people safe too. That’s a good thing. Especially today. Listen to some music today and sing along. Sing along loud! Singing is good. Feels good too.
And give out some hugs. You know, you may even get one back! That’s a pretty good deal.
And make sure you tell the people you love that you love them. Some words are more than just words. Love is one of those words.
I know you don’t remember that day 22 years ago but please try to remember this... some people will never forget that day. Today may be September 11th for you and me but for some people yesterday was September 11 and tomorrow will be September 11th all over again.
Every day is 9/11 for some people.
Try to remember that.
OK. I’m done.
I’m so grateful I get to be your teacher.
Thanks for listening.
I love you idiots.
The rest of class is yours.

I was in high school at the time. Almost all of my teachers never cared to air the live news coverage or talk more about it. It was business as usual.

1 teacher did care. He had TV day and kept the news on for the entire class period and even held a prayer.  This 1 teacher was known to others as the crazy racist guy. He's a black guy who sued the school for racism/discrimination and won.  He is the only teacher till this day that I remember the stuff he taught and that I apply to life.. He was a social studies teacher.  He took the money and moved to Thailand to start a school.

At the time, I agreed with everyone else that this dude is a crazy racist seeing stuff where there isn't.  But as I reflect back more, he knew what was going on.  I had the opportunity to come into contact with his son a few years ago and told him his dad was a cool guy.

It's not that hard to see the truth.  Listen to what the government is telling us through their complicit media lackies, and know that most of the time anything bad for the government was omitted or watered down, and anything good for the government was exaggerated, misinterpretted, or spun from whole cloth (i.e. totally fabricated).

I saw a quote yesterday to the effect of:

We've lied to the public so often and for so long, they no longer believe anything we say, making it impossible to actually get the truth out there.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.

It seems like he is getting more incoherent though.
I know a guy that runs an Alzheimer care home here. It's a really nice place.
I'm sure they would be happy to accept Joe as a new patient.

Oh absolutely, I would bet money that he is in the early mid stages of something like alzheimer or dementia.

Selfish thing to say. It's not about you but the lives that were lost, the families that were affected, the first responders and the resulting military response.

Joe Biden being there giving some unintelligible speech accomplishes nothing. It is pure symbolism and I don't subscribe to symbolism. He lied about going to the sight the day after the incident anyway. How long is a president expected to show up for this type of thing anyway?

Plus I bet that if Trump skipped it almost everyone here would be defending his choice not to go.

Maybe you don't.  But others would.

Yes, 22 years can dull the moment.  But not for those who lost their loved ones.  A kumbaya moment is probably all they have left to carry on with their lives.  And it's something they need and to look forward to.

Yes, the POTUS has countless important duties to perform daily.  But making an effort to be at one of the 9/11 memorial sites to pay tribute to that tragic day should be one of them.

In all fairness President Bush was not present at any of the sites on 2005 and did a tribute from the White House Lawn.

Barack had a moment of silence on the White House Lawn in 2015.

For the families of the victims, absolutely. They can and should have their memorial for as long as they want.
It just doesn't add anything for Biden, or any president, to be there.

I never said the country functioned on my needs. Nor did my comment have anything to do with needs.
Nothing I said took away from the meaningfulness of the memorial service or the victims. Complete and utter strawmam, I am really tired of your dishonesty here.

I said that the president doesn't need to be there. The president being absent from the 22nd memorial does not make the losses worse or meaningless. This is nothing but cheap political attacks, faux outrage that a president no one here likes didn't attend a memorial ceremony for something that happened a long time ago. Is the loss of your acquaintances actually cheapened by the fact Biden didn't show up?

Yes.  The people serving this country who died at the hands of America's enemies deserve to be given the respect and attention this nation owes them.  The president is the leader of this nation -- a nation that was attacked without warning on a calm morning when people were just trying to work and live their lives.  The majority were civilians -- not even a valid military target.  The workers I knew at the Pentagon were all civilians.

Is it really too much to ask Biden to spend a couple of hours out of his year to honor the people who died?  But for the grace of God, any one of us could have been targets.  I knew several who, for one reason or another were spared that day.  Taking a sick day, late to work because of traffic. heading to a meeting at the Pentagon but still on the road when the plane hit, etc.  One person was taking a restroom break, and the restroom nearest his office was closed for cleaning.  By having to walk down the hall to a different restroom, his life was spared.

Where was Biden last  year on 9/11?  He was AT THE PENTAGON presiding over a memorial ceremony.  Why was it important enough for him to show up last year, but not this year?

BTW, the Alaska speech was not something they planned.  The base he landed at is a usual stopping point for Air Force One to be refueled going to and from the Pacific region -- such as his return trip from Vietnam.  It was only after the news of him not having any plans to be at a 9/11 memorial service that they decided he needed to give a speech while waiting to continue his flight home.

Get a clue.

Is it a human need to have the president show up to the memorial? No, thus it is not about needs. No one needs the president to be at the memorial this many years later. That is what I meant when I said it didn't have anything to do with needs.

Since you are so critical about Biden not being there for the 22nd memorial, I am sure you were equally critical of Trump when he missed the WW1 memorial visit then right? This is pure political bashing. When Trump skipped the visit to the WW1 memorial the left made a big story about how rude it was and the right prostrated themselves in Trump's defense. Now the roles are reversed and liberals are lining up to defend Biden and the right are in such anguish Biden didn't attend. There is zero intellectual integrity here, zero consistency of ideology. It is purely partisan and cognitive dissonance because when it is your guy it is ok but when it is the opposing guy it is bad.

Maybe the president should visit Lahaina every year. How about he visit Waco every year. How about he visit the site of the Oklahoma bombing every year? Why not just fly to memorials of great loss constantly and never get anything done. It gets ridiculous at a certain point. The rest of the world doesn't revolve around our schedule of holidays and memorials so the president can't put the business of the government on hold. On the first anniversary sure, he should be there. On the 22nd?

Anyway, back on topic.  It's been questioned if there is a need for the president to show up at the memorial.

No.  There is no need.  But for the person who holds the highest position of the most powerful nation in the world to show up.  Well, now that is a leader.

You're pretending all incidents of violence or natural disasters that result in a few hundred dead are all the same.

Name the number of times the United States of American has been attacked on our own soil by any aggressor, and which resulted in mass casualties, either by foreign military or non-military forces.  We can ignore the Civil War, since that wasn't a foreign attack.
