Just called the Firearms unit to make sure they were going to be open today...girl that answered the phone said they were open, but not to come down "...because we're not taking any more people in line." I asked her to explain and she said there were over a hundred people in line and that she didn't think they (the firearms unit) were going to be able to see everyone so she was advising anyone that called to not come down.

Well that presents an interesting situation. I would think they will allow leeway In the registration deadline due to circumstances beyond the gun owners control and limitations within their registration procedure to process all applicants in a timely manner. Maybe it will force the issue and give them justification to modify the procedure to help alleviate the current problem.

Actually I was just discussing this last night...so, as a legal gun owner, you try to register that new gun but cannot do so because the line is too long. Maybe you try a couple of times but each time run into a problem that results in you not being able to register your new gun within the time frame dictated by HRS 134. Are you now a criminal in possession of an unregistered firearm?

Yes, you are now a criminal if you go by what the law states.

yes, technically you are illegal
i am not a lawyer, but i would "hope" that the hpd and da would be lenient as long as you were acting in good faith

today's recap...got there at about 4:15AM, about number 30 in line.  I find out number 1 person was there since 11PM last night, #2 was there at 1:30AM...guys who were about 26-27 said he was in the same position last week and took him about 3 hours...so its say to assume 10 people will take about an hour...I was just there to pick up permit, so they did come out and took care of pick up permits.  I was out of there by 8:20...

That's freaking nuts!  I was just at Young Guns for some ammo (good friend wants to take visitors shooting, so they paying for own ammo) and they said people are lining up at 2 am. Hopefully things will calm down once people aren't on holiday vacation and with LGSs practically out of most guns.

I was lucky to get what I wanted before November, but I probably would've gotten a 12 ga recently if it wasn't for the craziness for registration.

I think he talking about the other thread, where they was talking about the pay and all that other stuff.
no one was bashing them there either.  someone said the pay sucked, others, including me, said its about perspective, and that a lot of people joined the force because the pay was better than some of their other options.  that's not bashing, and i dont look down on an officer because he joined for better pay.

he's taking innocuous statements and assigning false maliciousness to them.

Just out of curiosity. How many of you out in line have a firearm to register by today but will probably not get a chance to cause the line is crazy? Has anyone heard any comment from HPD on the matter?

when i was there in september to register my rifle, it took them over an hour to process 10-15 people.

i'd say they're screwing over at least 100 people a day.

lol, i remember i was in DC a couple years ago for memorial Day.  they had that epic parade that lasts about 5 years.  we were watching it, and it was about 95 degrees, and 90% humdity at high noon.  the vendor carts coukdnt keep up with the demand for ice cream and water and soda and such.  then i saw this guy get up from his seat.  he came back 20 minutes later dragging a brand new cooler full of ice, still with the price tag on it, and sold about 3 cases of water in five minutes, straight from the cooler.  he made his money for sure.

Wow! That line is insane. I went to register on Black Friday, and it was "only"  past the metal detectors. And I thought the two and half hour wait was brutal.
