This is incorrect. I pass the Tesla repair shop almost daily and it's often full house.  The only time it was constantly empty is when there is a shortage of replacement parts.  They don't let the cars just sit in the shop for months while they wait. What's good about Tesla is they give you Uber credit if they don't have a loaner to borrow while your car is being fixed/maintained.

Then I know mechanics here and in Vegas for Tesla and they disagree with your general statement of the above.

*edit:

The main thing I can see that EV's don't have to do over ICE is the annual changemyoil.

For my 2008 Lexus IS250 which I traded in in 2020, I've only done the following with regard to powertrain type stuff:

1) Changemyoil annually

Other stuff:

Never replaced the radiator or fluid

Never replaced or added power steering fluid

Never replaced the spark plugs

Changed brakes that included the 4 disc once.  Assume break fluid was replaced.

Changed all 4 tires once

Changed 3 different power locks as they stopped working shortly after buying the car. 4th power lock broke, but I didn't want to spend $700 to replace since it was the rear door which I don't use often

Had the entire interior dash and door panels replaced due to class action lawsuit settlement.  This was about 6 years after I got the car, so it was awesome to have  a brand new interior.

Change power window motor on 2 diff windows.

I think you are missing the point because you are citing parts which electric cars also share like brakes, tires, window motors, etc.

The point was that there is less to break on an electric car, an ICE engine simply has many more moving parts to break. Belts, shafts, bearings, pumps, pistons, piston rings, transmissions, differentials, etc. etc. etc.

Teslas have regenerative breaking. Which means less usage of the pads. Thus they can get brittle from lack of use over time and need to be replaced, even though there's plenty meat on them still.  ICE cars don't have this issue.  I googled quickly and they said all EV's use this, which means they all have this sort of issue as time goes on.

For tires, an EV for the same size is often heavier, thus more wear on the tires. Google Toyota Corrola vs. Toyota Prius cause both about the same size.

Tesla's can open their windows from their phone. So that's an additional part or parts needed to accomplish this.

So your general statement of ICE having more moving parts than an EV, thus ICE have more opportunities for problems is not true.  There really is no way of knowing as some ICE are simpler than other ICE and same with EV's.

One thing many in HI fail to consider is not everyone has the climate we have.  Go to some place like New York where the snow, rain, ice, and salted roads are common 6 months out of the year, and cars can become junkers in just a few years.

So, you can't expect everyone to have the same experience with wear and tear on ANY car.

In 2016, there were about 950,000 drivers in Hawaii.  That's our portion of the nearly 290,000,000 drivers nationwide.  That's roughly 1 million out of 290 million.

Generalizing about the reliability and wear on EVs versus other types of cars in HI isn't solving anything.  Our experiences would be isolated and insignificant in the overall scheme.  Besides, we see our fair share of rust living in the Tropics.

So update.

Mrs. CMO saw a YT vid about Teds Bakery in Haleiwa (Raina Huang).  She wants to go. But for the past 8 months, my work place only has 1 charger.  This means it's difficult to get access, even though all EV owners are on a group chat.  So instead of being toward 100% charge, I've been on average of 50% for the past 8 months.

Now we have 2 charges and I can be close to the top.  So we went to Teds this weekend. Round trip cost me 30% juice. This would mean if we did this trip b4 the new charger, I would normally be at 50%. Then at 20% by the time we get back.  Then add in I may not be able to charge at work on Monday so down to 15% by end of Monday.  I need to take my parents to the air port tomorrow morning which would make me probably at 10% by Tuesday morning when I get to work.

So again, EV"s have their purpose if you have a place to charge all the time and is not a "solution" to climate change or what ever.

Some models of Prius have a roof-embedded solar panel to run hi-demand components like A/C to lessen the load on the batteries.

Also, the way you drive can change the amount of recharging from braking you experience.

Point is, not all trips are equal, and not all EVs are equal.  A 15 mile trip through town might not deplete as much battery power as a trip on the highway where you drive faster and do less braking.

I was looking at getting a Jackery generator and the solar panels for when SHTF. But the cost is like $1500.

It's not about the cost.  It's about the benefit.  How much is it worth to extend your car's range between charges?

Does a portable solar panel have enough juice to charge an EV given a reasonable amount of daylight?  I highly doubt it.  I do know many RV and camper owners use solar to charge batteries they can then use for A/C, cooking, electronics, etc.  They have to find a place to plug in for a full charge eventually, because solar can only charge them a little each day -- but it does increase the time before they require a full charge.

Tesla tried this and it didnt do well. Like entire daylight go get few miles.

That's why the successful applications leave the main batteries to something other than solar and augment that with solar to operate other systems that would also drain energy.  Less load on the main batteries means greater distances between charges.

Multifaceted approach.

A small 50KWH Tesla battery would take forever to get charged with a small solar panel. Lol.

Jackery 1KW solar generator wouldn’t even dent the charge requirement for an EV

Been seeing YT ads for Toyota's electrified vehicles, so i checked what they have to offer now.

*  Hybrid -- what my daughter has had since 2011 (Prius).  No port for a plug-in charger.
    "Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) use a combination of gas engine and electric motor(s) to maximize power and efficiency."

*  Plug-In Hybrid -- Has a plug-in port.
    "Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) run just like hybrids but thanks to their larger battery pack, they can run farther on electric power alone."

*  Fuel Cell Electric
    "Stored hydrogen travels to the Fuel Cell Stack, where it combines with oxygen from the outside air to create electricity and power the motor."

*  All-Electric
    "These pure-electric vehicles replace combustion engines with electric motors, providing smooth and almost instantaneous torque."

I also saw an article for a new RAM REV pickup that now gets 500 miles on a full charge.  Due out Q4 2024.

Which problems?
Range anxiety,  lack of charge stations, taking too long to charge, more expensive insurance, and a few others.
