It's an honest error by the author of the vid.
My title states the correct date, as does the website I referenced.

Yeah I got it just wanted to make fun of it . I know it means well just the sarcastic side of me :shaka:

Is that day gun appreciation day
Yes, it's Gun Appreciation Day for TM; if that's how you believe the event to be.
If you like or appreciate firearms, could you show up please?
Actually, if you don't like or appreciate firearms, show up too... and I'm not being facetious.

Sounds good . A voice may not be heard ,but an army of voices could . It's time for the other side of this story to be told .

Anyone wanna make a big 2aHawaii poster? I should go..

That's what I'm talking about!!
Kinda like "The organized minority will always beat the disorganized majority"... and I meant that to be in the 2A People's favor in this case!!

Yes no matter if you are an recreational shooter to a member of our proud armed forces it affects us all . Bolt action or semi-auto they want to drop the hammer on us all

Time to put up or shut up. Remember "No vote, no complain?" Well, go out and make your voice heard, or quit complaining.
I'll see you gentlemen there.

is there a flyer for this? Maybe we could put it up on the hpd registration door.
Ok, maybe we can pass it out to the people in line, they must be purchasing a firearm for a reason, and now inherited this responsibility.
Maybe we could also put it up at the Local gun stores and maybe even the range. Get the word out to more people!!!
-
I realize this belongs in the legal and activism section but I put it here to get more views. sorry...anyways...
What do you guys say?
CALL TO ACTION: March on State Capitols, 19 Jan, 2013! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUAfft7l4wQ#ws)

I don't think so but this would be a good place to set something up.
I want in on this!!!
 Nice!

crap Im working
-
HDF, 2Ahawaii, LIFE, KOKO HEAD R.O,LEO, MIL, and all LGS should be there as it affects all.
-
Who's leading this thing? What's the plan? I'm absolutely down to show up, but someone needs to take charge of this thing so it doesn't just end up being a big mill-around on some government grass. HiCarry might be a good one to head up this effort, or the HRA?
-
count me in. If you own a firearm you need to be here. If you don't own a firearm you need to be there, this is about more than just the 2nd amendment, its about the constitution as a whole.
-
Ill show up ..... Where do we meet and do you want to 12
-
I'm in. I volunteer as a self appointed leader! ;D ..........yes, really.
-
I'm in!
-
I will be ringing in gun appreciation day by teaching eight new shooters how to safely handle a firearm.
Also, not really sure where this guy got this date lol - but our 2A holiday is in February....
-
I'm in if we can muster enough people. We need strong numbers in order for this to work.
-
Not sure if anyone realized but there's 2 threads on this topic. The other everyone is tryna figure out who's running it.
And no need be shame about it. Just bring your shemag

You sir, are absolutely correct. Can someone start a poll of potential leaders who can QB this thing? A person who can accurately and responsibly articulate the position of the group without coming off like the 'gun-nut' that the anti-fireams people stereotype.
The entire nation will be watching. With all my heart, I hope that it won't just be ~25 of us just standing around in a circle holding signs like we were picketing. I would like to see major media there. Facebook posts, twitter feeds, etc etc exploited to the MAX and in good taste to benefit 2A. This is truly for our heirs and not to be taken lightly.
I want my kid to enjoy the same freedoms that my father showed me, beginning with the 2nd amendment.
This is serious and will have very little chance of getting reversed so we need to send a strong message to our elected officials that good citizens DO NOT support any further restrictions on firearms. There are enough laws regarding firearms and good people are not the ones who are the root cause of violence.
Unjustified homicide is is illegal yet criminals continue to commit murder. Penalizing good people from being able to defend themselves is not subject to discussion and calling 911 is for the police to document the crime.
The anti-firearm folks need to stop blaming inanimate objects and get to the root of the problem which is the break down of the traditional morals and values of the American nuclear family.
Anyhow, a list of ideas to organize and list of volunteers for leadership?

Go to the capitol building at noon, then after, since you're in town, go hit up all the shops ;D

Should be the State Capital. Wouldn't it be more effective?
Of course it's probably closed on Saturday but the building represents our State and Federal Government headquarters.
Again, can someone quarterback this?? Really doesn't matter as long as the attention is there and everyone is at the same location.

Demonstrate at the State Capitol
Don't forget to get PERMIT so you have a LEGAL gathering on Capitol Grounds
Suggest you find a parking lot, meet there and Bus in, drop off and picked up at predetermined time.
Otherwise Parking IS A PROBLEM
Wear same color shirts, professional looking signs, have a spokes person ready with Facts and Figures.
NO ONE else speaks, Only spokes person.
Get your SO out there, Buy her new clothes for event, take her to nice dinner after. She may be asked by news media for Why she's there.
LOTS of Smartly dress women better than t shirt, shorts and slippers.
HRA had demonstration at State Capitol at last big Anti 2A push. Been there, Done that.
HRA also picketed Rey Graulty's fund raiser, Wife was Only person Pro 2A interviewed by Chnl 2 News
Came across really nicely.
Have smallest Woman do the talking show disparity of size and strength between BIG guy and Small woman. Women Need CCW.
Ask if Max Cooper will help.
Maybe ask for NRA assist? Doesn't hurt to ask.
Do it to them BEFORE they buss in Mothers and school kids.

You are going to protest on the 19th, a SATURDAY??? That's a fricken EPIC FAIL. The Capitol is closed for business on Saturday. As in no one will be there!!! Who are you going to protest to? The fish?  :shake:
Y'all might want to change the date to the 18th.

It doesn't matter since all 50 states are doing the same.
You wouldn't care what day you chose if YOU were able to organize a similar event that would mobilize tens of thousands, hopefully hundreds of thousands of like minded Americans or more NATIONWIDE.

Maybe you can get a better turn out on sat. Someone better call the media, and you need a permit or the sheriffs will just shut you down.

Went back and checked out your all your posts... guess one shouldn't expect any kind of positive response on a topic so important from someone who views the negativity in things first .
Thank you for your enlightening contribution to the topic.

other forums are stating that they are doing saturday because most people work during the weekdays, only the occupy movement doesn't work so they can protest anytime. leave it on saturday, united we stand divided we fall.

I was thinking the same thing too and thought the date may have been a mistake. Kinda seems like this

As I see it would be just for media coverage and not an actual protest against the legislature since they are not in.

Is there any progress with this? I want to participate but get off work at 1300. If its only going to be small and quick I may just go to a couple LGS and spend some cash in support of them.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/01/09/coalition-to-hold-national-gun-appreciation-day-as-calls-for-more-guns-law/ (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/01/09/coalition-to-hold-national-gun-appreciation-day-as-calls-for-more-guns-law/)
Firearms groups are banding together across the country with a so-called "Gun Appreciation Day" this month as part of a bid to check the increasingly vocal anti-gun movement.
Organizers of the appreciation day, set for Jan. 19, hope to achieve the same level of outpouring as one in August for Chick-fil-A, which had faced criticism after the fast-food chain publicly acknowledged its opposition to same-sex marriage.
The organizers are encouraging gun-rights supporters to “send a message” to President Obama two days before his second inauguration by “lining up around the block” at gun shops, ranges and shows with a copy of the Constitution, U.S. flags and a “Hands off my Guns” signs.
The effort comes as Vice President Biden on Wednesday began a series of White House discussions on gun control, part of his larger task force effort to gather ideas for legislation, then submit them to the president. He said Wednesday that the administration might use "executive orders" to achieve some of its goals.
The White House effort follows the fatal shootings last month at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut in which 20 first-graders and six educators were killed.
Gun groups, though, have claimed new firearms regulations will not solve the problem. Larry Ward -- who is leading the appreciation-day effort and is president of the Republican consulting firm Political Media Inc. -- says Americas must act before the president makes a final decision.
“If the American people don’t fight back now, Obama will do to the Second Amendment what he has already done to the First Amendment with ObamaCare -- gut it without a moment’s thought to our basic constitutional rights,” he said Monday in a statement.
Ward also said the event will be supported with an online, mailing and media campaign over the next two weeks that is expected to reach 50 million people.
The coalition behind the gun appreciation day includes the Second Amendment Foundation, Special Operations Speaks, Revolution PAC and the Conservative Action Fund.
“We need to ban politicians who assault our rights, not firearms that are used thousands of times a day to protect lives and property from criminal attack,” said Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation and chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
Biden met Wednesday with gun control groups including Mayors Against Gun Violence, co-founded by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an increasingly strong voice in calling for more gun regulations. The vice president will hear from the other side Thursday when the National Rifle Association sends a representative to meet with the task force.
The president in the immediate aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., shootings calling for an end to gun violence, and said he would support tighter regulations including a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips.
California Sen. Dianne Feinstein has already vowed to introduce legislation to reinstate a 1994-2004 ban on assault weapons and the high-capacity clips.
Other suggestions include more-thorough background checks with a focus on potential buyers with mental illness.

- If we could have a committee of 3-5 people from 2ahawaii that would work out well
- Meet up a couple times or video chat before the 19th to coordinate the details: permit, transportation/parking, signs, staging areas, ect.
-
you wouldn't want me doing forms, my hand writing is even worse than my shooting :D
-
the signs need to be well thought out, no signs that pushes people away, a simple statement that speaks to people
-
I'll show up and will spread the word to some buddies. Maybe some of the LGS can advertise that they will be passing out discount coupons at the meet for the bruddahs that show up.
Good incentive for more supporters. :shake:
Need to show support. HRA can probably recruit more members (including myself).

i bet if you promised everyone who showed up a PMAG, we'd have great numbers.

I'm really pumped up about this...
I think I can spare a few (used) 30-round GI mags to be given to a random person showing up..
Edited to add: I MIGHT be able to also fill one or more with M855 Ball...
-
Please no hardware. This is getting organized behind the scenes best we can - at this point it is truly still up to us, the people, to get it done. Any recommendations for signs, volunteers or other ideas etc. please post them up. Time is of the essence.

I know where you're going with this and why, but you should probably leave the mags at home (definitely not bring ANY ammo [HRS §134-27]). While it's a nice thing you're trying to do, getting tossed in the clink for having a standard capacity mag would be bad for the statement being made.
-
yeah, the original facebook posts point out that people should avoid wearing camo (and might i add all black and web gear/vests)
and try not to wear shirts (or say) "cold dead hands" and other things that are seen poorly by the public and the antis
we need to try not to alienate those on the fence and just show support to the cause
not gonna do anything to change antis views

I plan on wearing the nicest I can find in my closet. I thought about an empty holster, but that wouldn't really do anything for the cause...yet.

For a sign, i got a suggestion.
"shall not be infringed."
People that are familiar will recognize it right away. Might get others curious and look into it.
Subtle and gets the point across. Not to direct. Might be to indirect though.

FINDINGS:
I received an e-mail regarding the special use permit. We must have "...general liability of no less than $500,000 per occurrence and $1 million in the aggregate."
Anyone know how we can find such insurance on short notice?
Any organizations that can help us out? HRA, HDF, LIFE??
ETA: Contacted my local Training Counsellor, and I'll see if I can get NRA insurance via Lockton. Will keep you guys updated.
-
Is there someone "leading" this event? Has any of the local groups or LGS's showed any interest in participating? Is there a head count of how many plan to be involved? Looking at the amount of people that have read this post (over 900) We should have a decent amount of support. I know everyone has busy schedules, as do I, but I do think this is important and we need to (as the 2a community) show some numbers. Can someone who is part of organizing this pm me?

UPDATE: Lockton Risk, the insurance company the NRA goes through, said it was too short of an event for them to insure. I'll be looking for another company, but if ANYONE has ANY suggestions PERTAINING TO GETTING THIS SPECIAL USE PERMIT, text me at 808-597-7367.
If you're asking for details or don't have suggestions that I can act on quickly, please PM me instead. I'll be editing my number out of this post when I feel it's appropriate, but as of right now, time is of the essence..

Oh joy..
I called an insurance agent from Island Insurance, and she stated that for events such as weddings, where they expect 25 people to show up at a beach and attend the ceremony, it would cost a couple hundred dollars.
In such an event like this where I don't really have control over the situation, especially if we're holding up signs and waving at traffic, she said it will easily go up into the thousands of dollars. I expected to pony up my own money, but I won't be able to afford that. Island Insurance said no one on island will be able to underwrite it, and it will have to be someone on the mainland. Also, they will want to know exactly what signs will be waved and exactly what we want made known, among other things. I'm waiting for another email from the insurance agent, but it's not looking good special-use-permit-wise...

First off, thank you so very much for all the efforts you and the others have put forth.
The attention to the details of having a successful event that you and others have brought up are amazing.
There's a group meeting tonight to discuss details of leadership etc. The results will be shared asap.
Also, has anyone heard from any of the local pro2A organizations like LIFE and HRA? Or the position on any of the representatives on this event?
We truly need all the support from the entire island and outer islands we can get. This is super important if you enjoy your firearms(and ammo, and mags, and other neat stuff) and the ability to defend your rights.
What about the mention of taking up a collection for some of the expenses?
We have one full week but less if you consider business days.
Any other helpful suggestions or volunteers?

From the Instructions for Special Use Permit (CSD-SUP Form 1):
"Applications for Special Use Permits, together with all required insurance certificates, must be received ten (10) working days prior to the date of the planned event or activity to allow for adequate time for processing and approval."
Thank you very much for looking into that.
Does anyone know how groups just "form" and congregate for events such as protests in a short time?
Does this mean that either we stand on the sidewalk as someone previously suggested, or that we have a peaceful event on the property anyway, so that the press can document the event and the authorities kick us out when they've seen enough?
Either way, we need local media to add us to the Nation wide media coverage as we're the last time zone.
btw, anyone have ties to local press? or maybe they'll just show up? maybe they shouldn't know about our intentions until that day so that the property cannot be roped off?
-
Insurance cert, crazy. So how does "just a group of people" just show up to exercise their First Amendment and still "comply" with all the rules! We're learning some hard civic lessons here. Good. Underscores the struggle so many others have faced and how/why so many others just fell off. This will be a *peaceful* civil act for those who show up and I hope to see you all there Jan. 19!
Let's stay coordinated O0 <-- haha yellow smiley afro dude can dance good and that takes coordination!

btw, anyone have ties to local press? or maybe they'll just show up? maybe they shouldn't know about our intentions until that day so that the property cannot be roped off?
If they want to rope off the entire Capitol building, they're gonna need a LOT of rope...

I sent generic info to some reporter contacts on FB
hnl.flyboy - thanks - you are kicking some okole on this!

Sorry guys. Today started off bad for me and frustrations mounted. I'll be on a pre-planned range for a little bit relaxing. I'll see the other organizers tonight.
-
I wonder if the Occupukes had to apply for a permit for their "protests." Anyways, I'm in. If it's on a Saturday, I can make it.

I wonder if the Occupukes had to apply for a permit for their "protests." Anyways, I'm in. If it's on a Saturday, I can make it.
Thank you in advance for your support!! And please spread the word to friends and family!!
Here's something of a positive note from the wsj of all sources:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324081704578234010962821032.html (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324081704578234010962821032.html)
This is why we need to keep up the pressure with events such as the one proposed and let our representatives know where we stand on our rights which are very broad and does not include things like specific exclusions as the executive branch proposes.
-
Thank you all for organizing. Saw this article and thought its very relevant.

Great updates. As usual "lucky we live Hawaii" as the Million Moms prepare to do battle with the Gun Appreciation Day'rs on the mainland, though it would not surprise me to possibly have counter - negative voices present with us as well. I respect their right to free speech as they should ours.
There's probably just as many Moms with Arms who will be making their voices heard too.
For example: http://www.moms4guns.com/moms--guns.html (http://www.moms4guns.com/moms--guns.html)

Count me in. You guys think its a good idea to rock the Gadsden flag?
-
imo, gadsen and molon labe play into the anti view of gun owners
better to be seen as regular members of the community
but it is a free country, and the first amendment protects all forms of speech (so far), so do what you want
Count me in. You guys think its a good idea to rock the Gadsden flag?

"The Constitution is outdated."
Bulla shitta.
It's more relevant nowadays than ever before.

As I have said, there are exemptions for everything, including spontaneous protest.

As I have said, there are exemptions for everything, including spontaneous protest.
Anyone is free to assemble/gather without a permit or insurance. It's public property, the worst they can do is say some bull about "normal operating hours" and make everyone stand on the sidewalk.
A permit would only be required if a group intended to use the property for an event.
-
.
-
That's my thinking as well and we kind of mulled that over last night too. Definitely spontaneous is how this all started, there is not even one unifying organizing group, just an open call to like minded citizens throughout the country. We have no control over who may show up or what they do. As far as permits go does that mean acceptance of risk, that is why I said in less colorful terms originally, - badges, we don need no stinkin badges! - and stand on the sidewalk if need be. If the state and/or local police don't have a clue by now this is going to happen, then they're as bad as hanabutta' was just on tv admitting she didn't even see the video. doh.
I wake up this morning as upset over this as yesterday. I'm going to protest about keeping my Second Amendment rights not being infringed upon while at the same time already infringed and disarmed!?! Our individual right to keep and bear does not end at the front door, nor at the top of a mag limiter block.
and - Brad! Sorry we missed each other. Yes was the SB in Aiea not Pearlridge. That's my home number and why didn't call you back since didn't hear the message till too late. E kala mai!

Re: Gadsen - That is exactly how this all got started isn't it!

Everyone needs to spread the word and show up for the March on the State Capital in support of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights (January 19th, 12:00 pm). We need to stand up as one, now is the time. Please do not wear anything that will fuel the fire of the extreme left and the anti-american gun haters. Bring your entire family, show them that we are law abiding citizens that involve our entire families in the support of the Second Amendment. Bring signs and banners, but please don't be ignorant.
This will be a peaceful demonstration, if you can not be peaceful and respectful, please stay home.
God Bless Patriots and The United States of America!

Any tips on where to park?
I think I'll be riding in on TheBus. I wanted to go around and scout parking areas, but it's been rainy, and it's quite unpleasant on the moped during rain.
-
Department of health has a small parking lot.
State building has a parking lot but you need to feed the meter.
Municipal parking lot then walk down.
Theres meter-ed street parking on punchbowl
Ill probably be catching the bus down.
Edit:
Are there any updates from last nights meeting? Are we just showing up with our own signs? Wearing similar clothing? etc.
Not tryna be pushy, just wondering. Also if any help is needed in any areas im down to help out.
-
I will try to be there if work schedule permits. I will wear a 2aHawaii shirt. Hope many others get one too. Check out 2a's webshop.

Can someone put together a flyer that explains what Gun Appreciation Day is? That way onlookers coming over and asking what this is about can get a clear explanation what the gathering is for.
Otherwise without a coherent message, we might get a hundred different version what we are doing there from a hundred different people.
Some people supporting the gathering might be better educated by a good handout also.
Second suggestion... We should direct people here to 2ahawaii.com primarily and other sites secondly so we can all communicate faster and get better organized in the future.
Thoughts?
-
I wanna order a 2aH shirt for my chick, but there's no small sizes..

Any ideas for slogans for signs and banners?
-
Thanks for link.
I just ordered 4 shirts, then I went back in and order 200 stickers to hand out, I asked to expedite the stickers to hand out. hopefully they come in time.
we are working on a handout, you hit the nail on the head, we need to educate people, have a common message and it needs to be well thought out.
our image is very important, we need to show we just aren't a bunch of thugs. We are professionals, educated, cool headed etc. you get the point.
-
please make suggestions that are tasteful, examples
second amendment protecting them all
second amendment guaranteeing freedom
-
Im putting "shall not be infringed" on mines.
4 words. 3 lines. Straight to the point. Lots of opportunity for questions.

removing the 2nd amendment is like removing a cornerstone, the house will fall after that.

I wouldn't recommend anything like this

it doesnt matter. you're fighting for the perception of the crowd. its not a structured debate, its about making an impression. right now, people on the other side think gun owners are crazy and violent.
coming off as aggressive and pugnacious just reinforces that negative stereotype, especially since the other side already expects it and it just feeds their confirmation bias.
this is politics. understand that the last thing that matters is the truth. what really matters is what others think of you, and you have control over that. it really doesnt have anything to do with facts, or who is right or wrong, its a popularity contest.
do you want to be perceived as the crazy gun owner? or do you want to be seen as part of a mass of reasonable, calm firearms enthusiasts who are supporting their rights in a well mannered way?

the jury is still out on that one but seems like MLK lost out. look at the black community. bigger ghettos than ever. most people in poverty and assistance than ever. highest murder and incarceration rates. highest abortion and unwed mothers. the black family has been almost completely destroyed since. meanwhile black on white crime is almost completely uncovered and even forgiven. radical black leaders are now respected college professors - ah well we might as well to agree to disagree on that sign. I don't think you're going to like the one I'm thinking of either LOL

do you find this more acceptable by the masses why ARs should not be banned?

great point xer.
Right now the media is programming everyone to scream at each other at the top of their lungs. Piers Morgan vs. Alex Jones? That's the best they can do? No way. It's all sensationalism and if you play their game you are falling into a trap.
The people you should be listening to are your friends and neighbors. They have been bombarded by a scare-tactic media campaign and have been trained by the boob tube to react in a certain way without thinking. The only catch is you have to practice recognizing those traits in yourself as well and do your best to weed them out when they pop up.
Debates are good, but when we fight each other we are slaves. Divide et impera.

I don't see any colored/white water fountains any more. Also not so many lynchings, although segregated schools is a different matter even though it's done now through redistricting. There is still a massive war on drugs going on despite the fact it was lost a long time ago, private prisons making money off head counts, and manufacturing jobs that headed offshore never to return leaving entire cities out of luck.
Sooner or later you will have to bust out a bell curve to justify your logic.
-
It would be an upside down one then with Opra and the Obamas on the rich side and the masses of poor on the other :p
Anyways, no worries about any divides, we're just talking about the one sign.
Our common ground is support for the Second Amendment!
Please do share more sign / slogan ideas.

Both you gentlemen make valid points. And truth be told you're both right. We need to speak the truth with a no holds bar but we need to do it at the right time.
Right now the public( hawaii) is not ready for the whole truth. Do you remember a couple of years ago when ghd Republicans put up a negative add about Hanabusa. That single add cost Djou the house seat. We need a softer approach for now. We could talk about how the US government came around and sent Japanesse people to the centers. I have spoken to a few guys that they remembered the FBI coming to their house when they were kids.
In a month or two might be a better time to come out fighting no holds bar. We need to get some momentum with people first. That is Imho

this is a battle for the hearts and minds and we are losing big time right now

he didnt correct him. when he said "an assault rifle is not what was used, they're fully automatic", the other guy said "have they not been used in recent shootings?", he conceded and agreed.
too bad there has only ever been only ONE mass shooting with a fully automatic weapon, and it was a cop using one of his duty weapons.
-
yah I caught that too but overall it was a win.
and doesn't help our case but what about the North Hollywood shootout, they had full autos didn't they?
-

i dont think that counts as a mass shooting since it was an active fight between the police, and also because it was a robbery, not just random murder. they werent killing defenseless victims.
it also doesnt count as a mass shooting, because none of the police officers died, only the shooters. the general definition being used oor a mass shooting is 4 total victims, i believe. so the oregon mall shooting technically doesnt count either.
also of note: the North holly wood shootout happened during the AWB.

You know what is scary to me,,,
is that so many guys are pissed, but scared to voice an opinion in public because they are scared for their family, or whatever,,,
If we are scared of the government if you are speaking your mind and not going along like a good little sheep you need to especially be thinking about your 2A rights,,,
if 1A isnt an option because your scared of getting put on some list, your battle is already lost and you might as well sell your guns to someone who will maybe use them for what they were intended....
-

Where do we park for this march?
-
I have sworn twice as a US Army officer to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against
all enemies foreign and domestic. This Constitution was written to once and for all protect good people from all tyrannical forms of government. The following quotes confirm that our Founding Fathers understood tyranny.....
"Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and the keystone under independence...The rifle and the pistol are equally indispensable...The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that is good.". George Washington
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms..disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one." - Thomas Jefferson quoting Cesare Beccaria, Criminologist in 1764. That was 230 years ago. -Thomas Jefferson
"The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it." -Thomas Jefferson
With liberty and justice for all.............
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.-Thomas Jeffersonj

Anything else that needs to be done?

RE: PARKING
Might want to check this place out.
Alii Place on the Makai corner of Alakea and Hotel. Entrance on Alakea.
Rates comparable to County Municipals on weekdays. Reportedly might have $3 flat rate on weekends, but I've never parked there on a weekend so I can't verify.

Almost every building in downtown has flat rate parking of about $5 after 5pm on weekdays and all day on weekends/holidays. I work in downtown and used to ride a motorcycle which parks free at Ali'i Place (the building with Hawaii State FCU, right next to Mandalay).

Has there been any update in the thread about the meeting that happened with the organizers?
Is the plan show up with a sign and wave to cars?
Anything else that needs to be done?
It seems that there are at least 2 groups which are currently being combined to create this event.
At the moment, its a grassroots movement with only the donation of a few people to purchase materials for signs and any printing costs.
It was mentioned that just having the American flag would send a strong message as it is symbolic of the very core our Nation was founded upon, which is our Constitutional rights.
People may get carried away with the sign content and that would send the wrong message at this important juncture.
The idea is to send a message that over 99% of firearms owners are good law abiding people and not to fall into the sterotypical gun nut that anti-gun supporters think we are.
So camo clothing and other tactical gear, empty holsters, yelling and screaming random thoughts to passing cars, signs with firearms silhouettes and other overly extreme pro 2A statements(ahem, Aiea78), etc etc is not appropriate.
This will be a quiet, peaceful gathering to show our overwhelming support of 2A and that nothing should be changed to further prohibit the good guys from what our Founding Fathers originally meant; which is not subject to interpretation nor modification.
We will stay off the lawn(since we may not have a permit to gather), have an orderly gathering, and clean up after we're done so that nobody can say anything remotely negative about what had transpired. So no one will be arrested for any type of civil disobedience or similar. There simply will be no reason.
A mass gathering to show our support of 2A along with the rest of the Nation on the very same day. Simple.

Where do we park for this march?
It looks like a rather large group has begun to form so please expect to arrive prior to noon so that you may find parking in the surrounding areas and be able to join us.
I plan to park somewhat away and bicycle in.
There's usually parking further down on Punchbowl as it's a Saturday, there won't be people parked for business.
I believe that this is an important enough event to pony up the $5 or so dollars for parking that a previous member posted.
Others' may borrow the kid's razor scooter or skateboard? or just walk.
Please make sure to bring some refreshments as it may be a warm day.
Sun block as well.
An umbrella in case it's a rainy day.
Don't forget your American flag if you have one!!

Angry cat is a Second Amendment supporter! :D
My offer still stands as point person to collect donations via paypal (mark as gift, sender bears fees) for materials. I will front our 2AHi group whatever cash we need for at least 50 signs now if needed. I can pick up and drop at the site since you'll be on bike. (great idea to bike in btw). And whatever slogan or graphic we come up with is what I will hold in my hands, if not a flag.
I have not given up any fight, far from it. Just a little surprised our email went unanswered but then again they probably received 10s of thousands. So it's up to the entire group to make this a success!
Word is definitely spreading. We plan on being there at least until 2pm for those that are wondering. That leaves plenty time to continue ransacking gun shops afterwards :)
hey hey
ho ho
gun free zones have got to go
right of the people
to keep and bear arms
right of the people
to keep and bear arms
difi wants your guns
let's stick them in... ah better not use this one eh.
-
well put, its time to step up.
Yep. We are all on at least two lists already (one state, one federal) by virtue of registration. The worst thing that can happen is registration=confiscation. So time to speak up for your rights! Exercising the First to support the Second while protected by the Fourth - they are all intertwined.
-
the empty holster has been used for a long time and really underscores our plight but may get one arrested for terroristic threatening or some other trumped up nebulous charge. back in the 80s my neighbor used to walk around with a screwdriver in a cowboy holster to try to show that guns were just tools. the police would end up driving him home each time.
as you said, we will be the last state in the nation rallying and closing down the event. best foot forward with Aloha :D

I won't be able to make it, but could support with some donations.
A few things I caught off the top of my head:
1. If you know there will be a good showing, has anyone contacted the news media?
2. Need to bring women and children for diversity. So bring your spouses, girlfriends, children. Ask your neighbor if you can babysit their children and bring them down too. Make it a first date. Whatever it takes.
3. At the beginning, make sure everyone there knows the do's and don'ts and the goal of the event. How to handle abusive anti-gunners.
4. What happens if the police tell you to disperse.
5. Assign a few people to talk to reporters/legislators. Have a factsheet to go over (make sure it's legit facts too). Maybe a copy of the constitution www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/bill_of_rights.html (http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/bill_of_rights.html).

Here's the flyer to print out and hand out.
edit
Sorry, link removed as the flyer was does not promote in a positive light what we're attempting to accomplish.

one thing of note. its possible you'll get negative reactions from passersby. DONT respond.
even if they throw shit at you. just take it and smile. reacting makes us look violent. not reacting makes anti gun folk look hypocritical.

That is an excellent point. Yes, do not overreact and get up in arms in any attempt to "get even" when someone does not share the same view as you do; or if someone does something that is socially unacceptable or even illegal.
I'm an absolute firm believer in the Law of Attraction and believe that if you have in your mind that others' are against your thoughts and beliefs, then you will attract that powerful negative energy to satisfy that condition. The universe will make that happen. On the other hand, if you think positively and truly believe what you deserve, you will achieve that goal as well.
Anyhow, keep with the original plan and just support the Constitution as it stands, and try not to fuel the energy of the people that don't yet understand.
-
Honestly I believe EVERY Military member, Active Duty/Guard/Reserves/Retirees, should be there Saturday. They've sworn to SUPPORT and DEFEND the Constitution of The United States against all enemies foreign and DOMESTIC..........

also, take note of the license plate, description, etc., as well.. incase need to report an assualt.. but definitely KEEP YOUR BEARING.. DO NOT respond or PROVOKE..
great points...

I know we'll have plenty of folks taking pictures and video so everything should be well documented.
Have those cell phones and cameras ready to document any illegal activity by the anti crowd for law enforcement.
Remember, the Press will be there and everyone needs to be on their best behavior.
Some points that are key in a debate, is that the we all stay calm, focused, well articulated, modest, and not let the 'opponent' take advantage of our good nature to get us upset and engage in a frivolous verbal yelling match. The main character from movie Ip Man comes to mind.
-
umm, it's a great flyer, and i'm sure you all put a lot of work into it, but is that image the one we want to project on the public?
not a complaint, just a comment

Do you guys think nutnfancy will even show up to his own state capitol to protest? one thing he said in a recent vid is that he doesnt know which state he will do it at. that soumds pretty fishy to me. Im not saying that we shouldnt do this of nutn doesnt, but i just feel thats a pretty pussy to stand on a soapbox, have people around the country organize a local protest and then the one that put out the vid starting all this doesnt even participate.
-
i think he'll show up someplace
he's too much of an attention whore to pass up the opportunity
or if he doesn't go, he'll say it's because he got threats or didn't want to distract from everyone else

This is important. The Constitution MUST be upheld.

We would like to invite everyone concerned about their 2nd Amendment Rights.
When: Saturday January 19, 2013 1200 NOON
Where: Hawaii State Capitol
Description: On January 19, 2013 Second Amendment supporters are rallying nationwide to show support for our individual rights with “Guns Across America”. “Guns Across America” is a peaceful walk that will send a positive message of gun ownership to the nation. It will dispel fallacies that the gun control advocates have been sending through media coverage.
Eric Reed, national organizer for Guns Across America events and owner of Gun Control = More Crime, states “Our goal is to unite gun owners behind a singular message of protecting our second amendment rights. We hope citizens will become more vocal and active politically in regards to any changes in gun control laws.” Attendees are encouraged to sign a petition that will be delivered to the US Senators representing their states.

Yes this is gun appreciation day, but we are trying to make a statement at the Capitol Building (we have a permit) If for any reason you cannot make it to the Capitol Building by all means go to your local gun shops for gun appreciation day.
-

its very important we don't get into arguments with the anti-gunners out there. lets keep it simple and keep it to statistics and quotes. someone posted some good quotes on the first discussion to place on a flyer.
yes the permit was approved. park around the capital on the street parking, there is more parking on alakea and bishop street in parking garages.

you're right, this is happening. I encourage everyone to come to the rally. there are going to be a lot of people here. if you believe in any of the bill of rights you need to be there because the 2nd amendment is the corner stone.

Be ready. The anti-gunners are on to this and will be there. They will use any tactic to elicit a violent response, do not satisfy them.

not only a violent response, ANY response
best not to say anything
you cannot fight emotion with emotion, NOR with facts
let the spokespeople talk to the media, and that's it, IMO

Ok, first attempt at a handout. I volunteer to be the main author of this so please send me all the changes so that we can keep everything consistent for the final version.
Please review and provide feedback via PM as follows:
1. Specify which points to add or remove. Specify slide # and detail what I should add or remove.
2. Help provide a more concise and to the point content for each slide. Send me revisions or inclusions for a specific slide.
3. A picture is worth a thousand words. Provide me with good pictures that I can use in the slides.
4. Let me know if you can make the format for this any better. I am open to using either Powerpoint or converting this to a Word document.
Thank you!

If you are 8 times more likely to be killed by a cop then a terrorist, I wonder how that compares to the odds of being a victim of a mass shooting?

Does anyone know if there is anything planned for Maui?
This is some bullshit guys,,, I know we have a lot of LE and military that look in on this site I HOPE you guys are more loyal to the constitution and your own freedom than you are to some lame ass politicians.
The fact of the matter is that these people have an agenda that doesnt involve your or my best interest. Think about it,,, why would they be trying to outlaw semi auto rifles if they didnt have something else up their sleeve, the FBI stats list right around 1% of the gun related murders as having an "assault weapon" as the tool of choice.
This is lame, Abercromby is part of the machine that has caused so many problems for our economy and such, our representatives who have been in Washington for years and years and years are part of the reason why the country is now bankrupt,, think about it,, I mean honestly look at the facts.
I have gone around about this with some of my neighbors and they just dont see it, they blame it everywhere but where the blame lays, BO did inherit a bunch of it so I attribute only a fraction of the problems to him, the gun stuff is definitely all his baby but it is also being pushed by the rest of the machine, you see that smug bastard clinton standing on the stage with him wispering to eachother, what a bunch of shit,
I hope the shit hits the fan, we sorta need something like that to reset this broken ass machine. where is that smiley that is showing finger!

We are telling individuals who can not make it to the State Capitol Building, especially for those of you that are not on Oahu, to go to your local gun shops with your banners/signs/flags for "Gun Appreciation Day", If anyone wants to come to Oahu for the event and needs a place to stay, you can contact me vial email (faryniak@gmail.com), I have an apartment that is furnished but i do not use it. :) I .would even be willing to offer transportation (on the island, not to the island) as well, but i can only offer that to 5 people max.
Have a great day all and do not forget to write your representatives! You can use the easy NRAILA site to find your reps: http://www.nraila.org/get-involved-locally/grassroots/write-your-reps.aspx (http://www.nraila.org/get-involved-locally/grassroots/write-your-reps.aspx)

Did anybody post flyers at kokohead
-
Just came back from Young Guns and I saw a flyer of sorts of the the counter for Guns Across America. Maybe someone can go down to Young Guns and whatever other shops are open and post a flyer there with the "official" information for the Hawaii gathering.

Just came from Sec and the guys behind the counters didn't even know anything about this Saturday. Can someone be sure to send all the LGS the info ASAP?

We are up against this...
Hello --Today President Obama announced a plan to help protect our kids and communities from gun violence. You're going to hear a lot about it, but I wanted to make sure you got a chance to get the facts, straight from me.After hearing from Americans from across the political spectrum, we decided to focus on some key priorities: closing background check loopholes, banning military-style assault weapons, making our schools safer, and increasing access to mental health services. The ideas we sent to President Obama are straightforward. Each of them honors the rights of law-abiding, responsible Americans to bear arms. Some of them will require action from Congress; the President is acting on others immediately. But they're all commonsense and will help make us a little safer. Now is the time for all of us to act.Read about the events that brought us to this point, learn about the plan we've proposed to help protect our kids, and then add your name in support to help build momentum for this plan. Here's what we've put together:We're calling for requiring background checks for all gun sales and closing the loopholes that allow dangerous individuals to make their purchase without going through one of these checks. We're asking for a new, stronger ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines that allow a shooter to fire dozens of bullets as quickly as he can pull a trigger. And we're asking Congress to help protect law enforcement by make it illegal for members of the public to possess armor-piercing bullets. We're going to give law enforcement more tools and resources to prevent and prosecute gun crimes, and we're going to end the freeze on gun violence research that prevents the Center from Disease Control from looking at the causes of gun violence. We're calling on Congress to help make schools safer by putting up to 1,000 school resource officers and mental health professionals in schools and ensuring they have comprehensive emergency management plans in place. And we're going to increase coverage so that students and young adults can get access to the mental health treatment they may need.We know that no policy we enact or law we enforce can prevent every senseless act of violence in our country. But if we can save the life of even one child, we have a deep responsibility to act.Now is the time to come together to protect our kids. Learn about the plan, then add your name alongside mine:http://www.whitehouse.gov/now-is-the-timeThanks,Vice President Joe Biden

They will make a very eloquent and misinformed plea to the masses. It will be very difficult to overcome the popular opinion, even tho it means that our rights will be taken. People will give up their freedoms for security, thereby they will receive neither freedom nor security.

I'll be at Koko Head to post up large signs and handout flyers tomorrow(friday) at 11AM-3PM and on Saturday morning 8-10AM. I could use 2 volunteers on Saturday to help me at the pistol, steel target, and rifle ranges handing out flyers as shooters arrive. I'll print the flyers
-
Thinking about getting message to one page.... it all comes down to this right?
1. We are law abiding citizens of Hawaii who have undergone firearm safety training, background and health checks and are productive members of society.
2. Guns protect us and our families from criminals (self defense message)
3. Guns protect us from government tyranny (2nd amendment message)
4. We are not criminals. Go after the real criminals and do not criminalize us.
5. Support our local gun community
What do you think?

My girlfriend and I will be there for a little while, then she has karate practice. I suppose even in light of recent events, we won't be seeing a call for a truck ban because they are capable of causing so much damage in the wrong hands, and are more powerful than what the police are equipped with?
One of the guys at work asked why I felt the need to own an "assault rifle". I told him that my girlfriend and I are a foot difference in height, and she's a lefty while I am right-handed. The AR15 is the only rifle we have that both of us can safely and easily operate to protect ourselves. I also told him that if more than one person was trying to assault her while I'm at work, the rifle would do her better than a cellphone or tiny can of pepper spray. Too many people have that "It's never going to happen to me" mentality. Sad to say, crime will have to get real bad before that opinion changes...
Other things to tell people:
-Living in a secured apartment or gated neighborhood will mean that the police will have to go through the same obstacles to get to your door.
-Having a gun and knowing how to use it to protect your family is no different than taking a CPR class and keeping a fire extinguisher in your home.
-When people talk about how many deaths occur daily from guns, ask if their source takes into account violent felons shot by the police or potential rapists/murderers stopped by law-abiding citizens.
-When your wife or daughter is about to be assaulted and you're not there, do you have faith that their iPhone is a deterrent/crime stopper?
-When they describe a perfect world where only the police have guns and they're everywhere to stop crime before it starts, ask if they're referring to North Korea.
I was taking disaster planning and emergency management as part of a Bachelor's course at UH West; a disaster recovery class taught me that after an event, the Government's priority isn't to save people or defend the Constitution, it is to ensure that our form of government continues; everything and everyone else is secondary. Perhaps this is why Obama OK'd Homeland Security to procure so much ammo-- if "The Big One" ever hit and government was facing the same backlash that Bush did after Katrina-- but on a national scale-- Obama and his constituants would be outgunned. Even those 11 million illegals he's groveling to might turn on him once the food stamps run out...
See you guys Saturday.

Parking suggestions?
-
Go early? Or park far and walk/scoot/bike/bus in. There's a parking map earlier in the thread. We'll be there for awhile too so no worries about missing the boat :)
-
Just finished my homemade sign.
states: "SUPPORT
2ND AMENDMENT
HAWAII"
Hope that the friends I called show up.
-
I upgraded the signs at koko head today and passed out some flyers. Should add a few more to tomorrows count.
I'll also bring a few signs tomorrow to handout if you need one.
-
Aloha, a friendly reminder for tomorrow:
1. Wear clothing that you would wear to work, a business meeting, church, or a school play. We want to show the diversity of gun owners. :)
2. Hydrate and bring water.
3. Please make sure to "spell check" your signs, and try to keep them family friendly.
4. Remember we are walking billboards for gun owners and gun rights.
5. Please bring your cameras and video cameras. We will have a central site to upload photos and video for those who missed the rally.
6. If you encounter people with opposing views, please do not engage with them. They may want you to engage, and may want to show we are hot tempered. Don't give them ammunition to use against us in the court of public opinion.
7. Let's have fun and make new friends!
:)

I don't usually do this.... But, if anyone lives near the Salt Lake, or Pearl Harbor area PM me if you would like a ride to the State Capital. I can accommodate up to 3 people comfortably. All I ask is that you bring a positive attitude. Let me know via PM.

I'm in!
Cya'll tomorrow :shaka:

I and other LIFE instructors will be there.
I'd like to throw something out there for your consideration: We are facing one of the most extensive anti-gun legislative session in recent history. We, as gun owners will need to prepare and organize for the upcoming fight. I'd like to take advantage of this opportunity to suggest that tomorrow we try to (and I hate this word...) network with each other with the intent of creating a working coalition of gun owners. This is not an attempt to get you to join any one organization, although I personally think it would be a good idea, but rather to get to know each other, to strategize, and to help eliminate any of the infighting or bickering that may ultimately reduce our effectiveness. I would further suggest that we also try to meet on a more formalized basis, soon, to hammer out any differences and solidify our positions.
If you are willing, I will help facilitate such a meeting and secure a meeting place. What does everyone think?
Thanks!
-
Can we sign something collectively tomorrow and send it in to the legislators ad committee members dealing with the bills?

Does anyone have 2 extra signs for me and a friend to use? We just found out today that we will be able to attend. Lmk Mahaloz :shaka:

fyi- hannity has a real good show on right now, has nra speaker, and a lady competition shooter coming up its on fox right now.

Yes we have a petition we have for Hawaii Senators and Representatives:
Aloha Mazie Hirono, Brian Schatz, Colleen Hanbusa and Tulsi Gabbard,We are law abiding citizens who support the 2nd amendment of the United States Constitution. In response to the President’s plan to reduce gun violence we affirm the following:
1. The United States of America has over 20,000 existing gun laws now, we reject creating any new laws that would restrict rights of gun owners they currently are afforded. Please enforce the ones we have on the books now.2. We reject any bans on high capacity magazines, rifles, shotguns, or handguns for law abiding citizens. 3. Gun Free Zones are Target Rich Environments; we promote a common sense plan on protecting our school children. A law and a Gun Free Zone sign will not prevent a criminal or mentally ill person from carrying a gun on a school campus. Our children deserve to be protected by well qualified and trained personnel. Safety plans should be implemented in every school, and drills should be held as often as fire or tornado drills.4. Doctors and health care professionals should not be reporting agents to the federal government as to who owns a firearm.5. We do not support a national registry of gun owners of any kind. After witnessing how law abiding gun owners were treated in New York State by a news agency, we are concerned that any type of registry would violate citizens’ privacy and that a registry could be used for other purposes, such as confiscation, down the road.
We respectfully request that you uphold your oath of office and the Constitution of the United State of America. We are voters, and we are watching.
Sincerely,
We The People of Hawaii
Also we we have materials for extra signs if someone needs them. We also will be passing out flyers (I attached it and we had 300 printed). My phone number is 219-809-1392 if you need help, you can text or call me :)

Cindy - are you passing this flyer out to the public tomorrow?
-
Some of us that met up in the beginning will be bringing signs and handouts for others so no huhu we got you covered. (kudos Duchi, HNL.flyboy & mln41!) They might not be professional but it is your presence that matters now.
HiCarry that is a great idea. We even have initial funding for a warchest, sparse as it may be but this is just the beginning.
We will not go quietly into the night!
We will not vanish without a fight!
We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Tomorrow, we celebrate our Independence Day!
:D :D :D :D :D

that was a nice piece you wrote, its kind of long. lots of good info. I'd recommend only handing that out to the public to people that are interested in getting involved or on the fence about firearms. Nicely done. great job

on my 2a friendly fb pages they are posting pictures from NY to Va. Lots of people are showing up. See you all there!!!!
-
At 12:15pm, I counted 120 to 125 people on the sidewalk, plus kids on the lawn. The signs are mostly too small to read from the street, but the number of people plus the waving flags are doing a good job of getting attention.
-
Can not make it. Sounds like a decent ammount of people though!
-
I am PROUD to be here.
So should you! (if you can)
-
Sorry guys, I couldn't make it. I got called into work at the last minute - co-worker called-in sick. I did, however, drive by and honk my horn. I was in the silver Bimmer around 1pm.
-
I wanted to be there so bad...
-
It was another beautiful day, I think we had a great showing of 2a support. There was a news camera there from what I saw, didn't see what channel though...
-
Thanks Cindy, Bill and all involved for organizing this and for showing up! I am very happy to see so many people today. There were probably a good 200 people when I arrived a little past noon.
Senator Slom, Malia Zimmerman, Channel 2 showed up around noon. Then channel 4 just showed up a little before 2pm. Wonder why the other news agencies didn't bother to cover this.
I had to leave but the guys, gals and kids are still there. I think folks will continue to be there probably until 4pm. Show up and support if you can!
-
thanks to all the people responsible for the event. This signals just the start of our fight. Write and call your reps keep the heat on.
-
It's just the beginning... A lot of the people I met there said they almost didn't know about the gathering today...
The next one will be bigger provided that more folks know about the gathering. You'd be surprised at how many people were showing their support by honking horns, waving, etc. men, women, old folks, etc... People you wouldn't normally think we're supportive.
There are lots of people that support 2a... We do need to get even better organized and folks need to start showing up.

Here are a few cell phone videos I shot around 1:00:

Wow I am impressed by the turnout. For those who were there talking to people were most of the folks from this forum or did they hear about this other places?
-
Yes I made it out today! I was the one wearing the black 2ahawaii shirt, black kangol hat l with the camelbak!
-
Drove by honking at about 1230 in my silver forester. Bought ammo at a lgs today too also support
-
Just got back, it was a nice turnout more than I was expecting. I guesstimated around 200 by the time I left. Nice meeting you guys.
-
I thought it was a wonderful show of support and surprised by the amount of support we got from the cars passing by. I saw a few friends out there, and got to meet some other people. The next one should be even better. Need to keep up the momentum.
Lets do a review of things that worked well, and things that we need to improve for the next rally. My thoughts:
+ Good enthusiasm
+ Got some media coverage
+ Guest appearance from Sen Slom and Maria Zimmerman
+ Lots of suggestions and help on this forum
+ The weekend rally probably resulted in more people participating.
- I think some people didn't know what we were rallying for. Make some bigger and clearer signs (GUN RIGHTS!) and sad to say, I'm sure alot of people don't know what the second amendment is.
- Earlier and better announcement of the rally. Maybe have a newspaper ad?
- People stay till the end of the rally, when KITV showed up, alot of people had already left the rally.
- Better planning organization - Was a little difficult to track what was going on in this discussion. Should have a meeting prior to the rally and a final plan(rollup of all the suggestions and whats happening).
- Send an invitation out to all the legislators with info about the rally so they show up or at least know what is giong on and what this is for.
-
Wish there were more people. We have more people than that at the range every Saturday :-\ ! Mahalos to everyone who came to support. :shaka: Here are a couple pics from my phone.

Got there a little after 12:30 and saw that the turnout was better than I expected. Lots more support from passing people than I thought there would be. Thanks to those that set this up and organized it on such short notice.
-
Give a round of applause for those who helped make this day happen. And whoever got the permit for the rally, thanks!
-
My wife and I went out early. Had to leave a little early. Passed out all my 2a stickers and met a bunch of people! Super turnout. When and if they choose to pursue the unconstitutional bills that have been submitted, we need to have that kind of support during hearings. Of course they will hold them in the middle of the day and probably with very short notice, but I will set asisde leave time to try and support as much as possible. We NEED TO STOP THEM. Before our RIGHTS are stolen.
Thank you everyone for the great day!

Awesome! turnout "Constitution of the United States" believers!!!

Heavies saw you out there, didnt get a chance to say wassup though. Did get to meet a few forum members today though. A lot of people showed up. It was nice seeing everyone lined up with their signs and flags. Two news reporters were there. KHON 2 and KITV4. During the interview KITV4 didnt realize it was a national event, and called in to his headquarters i guess telling them what was going on. Hopefully its more good coverage.
Thank you to the people that organized and put all of this together. There were lots of people. Really happy to see men and women of all ages there. People from the forums wearing their shirts. HRA was out there. Life was out there. There was also lots of talk about getting together more often and staying on top of things.
I loved the flyer and there was tons of great information on it. Our forms even had an advertisement spot!!!
Flyboy i wanted to meet you. Were you hanging out with the life guys? I saw a couple leaving on their bikes, was it you?
oh and as someone else mentioned, this is only the beginning. If you couldnt make it today thats ok, you can always submit testimony, attend hearings, etc, etc. It looks like the sleeping giant has awoken

Lots of fun and a pretty good turn out, wish I could've stayed longer. Think I need to pick up a 2A shirt as well!!!
Thanks to all who coordinated & support, I'll be better prepared for the next one :shaka:
Boomah
Oh, great images & vids folks thanks for sharing!!!
-
Thanks to all that spearheaded this rally. I estimated about 200 people and was happy at the amount of support from passing drivers including many bus, tour and delivery trucks. Even a parking enforcement guy honked.
Saw KHON there. Hope they show this in a positive light since the groups energy was positive and well mannered. Maybe a thousand plus next time.
-
had to work today so I couldn't go. Thanks to all who showed up to support!
-
Kitv4 just gave us our 15 seconds of fame.
Were opposed to high capacity restrictions on rifles, shotguns and something else i couldnt understand. Then they showed a 1 sentence statement from the organizer. Lame.
-
News story is up on KHON's website

Notes that there is a nationwide gun control thing tomorrow too, I think it refers to Gun Depreciation day. http://gunvictimsaction.org/blog/2013/01/commemorate-newtown-on-gun-depreciation-day-january-20-2013/. (http://gunvictimsaction.org/blog/2013/01/commemorate-newtown-on-gun-depreciation-day-january-20-2013/.) Doesn't sound like it will amount to much.

it totally did. And they showed up late too. Hopefully KHON2 is not as biased.

Mahalo Nui to all that took part in the rally today. I wish I could have been there. You folks look great in the picture on the link that's provided post #304. Aloha

Did you expect more? Hopefully everyone got a warm fuzzy feeling inside, because that's all this was good for.

I'm sorry but people are deluding themselves if they think the media here is impartial. While not as raging left as MSNBC, they're still liberal in their coverage.
-

THIS! sad that we have to fight such an uphill battle!
-
KHON2 did a little better coverage. They showed more of the interview and at least interviewed both sides. Wished news would be neutral in the content they report on.
And hopefully the warm fuzzy feeling people feel lights a ember inside of them that turns into a fire and they are even more ready to what is to come.
I dont know which is harder. Getting people to publicly come out and wave signs, or show up in person to submit testimony. Hopefully they will be there for both. I will.
-
Khon article is pretty lame.
-
Had a great time today. Was happy to see a nice sized crowd, as well as more motorist support than I expected. Almost every city bus honked, too, which surprised me a bit.
-
Did you expect more? Hopefully everyone got a warm fuzzy feeling inside, because that's all this was good for.
:wtf: Well this type of attitude doesn't help. And what, you must be too good for this right? People like you have no problem enjoying the rights of the consitution, but fail to support movements to ensure they stay intact. EPIC fail.
-

Due to last minute events, I was unable to attend, so..
THANK YOU to all that attended and planned this event!!! :shaka:
Please continue to post events and initiatives, so I can try and help a little.

We can do some damage if people know more then 10 days in advance ;). It also helps when one of the parties that generally likes to help organize isn't teaching classes all weekend, but I couldn't help it lol.
-
Next step, submit testimonials!!!!!
Nah i dunno. Sign up for email notifications for hearings and when you can submit testimonials
-
If we can do this under a rush, imagine what the next will be with full support!
WE ARE THE 200
like my new avatar? :D

Great seeing everyone out there! 2ahawaii is what keeps me informed on Hawaii Gun Issues and what got me out there. Some people out there hadn't heard of 2ahawaii so I spread the word. Perhaps at the next one I'll print some flyers or cards.
Hats off to everyone who was there but especially the organizers and the LIFE people. Everyone did a great job.

-
Oh yeah, Heavies was passing out stickers and they seemed really popular. Good way to advertise
Next time maybe if i had permission i could have some printed out to hand out. Not sure if they are free or not.
-
This guy? He said, uh what about that Connecticut shooting! They shoot people in one second! Hahaha     i wanna have a gun like that"
To shoot 26 people "In like one second" is exactly why we need to educate people about guns. Even my brother who came here last month and is pro gun was VERY aggravated about how hard it was to hit the 8" target at the pistol range when I took him. Then he started talking about how the people in the movies turn their pistols 90 degrees and shoot moving targets. And how on TV cops come in and can shoot moving targets while they themselves are moving.
And this man's realty was 26 people killed in one second. I hate the press.
-
I big THANK YOU for everyone who supported the rally today!!! I saw a lot of old and new friends and made a few new friends today. Thank you also to whomever it was that made and brought all those signs. What a great bunch of people we have here in Hawaii!!!! :shaka:
-
I wasn't able to stop and wave but I drove by around 2 in a silver rav4 and honked all the way down the line.
-
Save those signs for the next time too! :D
Thanks go to Mrs.Aiea78 for the signs and HNL.flyboy for the sign handles! And mln41 and Duchi for the flags. Am sure leaving out others who came with materials - please recognize their efforts. Great feedback about making them bigger next time so passersby can read better.
Now then, when is the next meeting.
-
there is some work ahead of us. so lets roll up our sleeves and get to work. If your whining now and you don't do anthing, you have no right later to whine when they confiscate you firearms. This fight has just begin, today was a scrimmage. This is going to be an uphill battle, but its one worth fighting. We need to push hard now to take the momentum away from the other side, because if they get their way it will be a lot harder to reverse the decisions that are coming down the road.
I suggest we have a meeting early next week to plan our next move.
It was good to see the support out there today, I for one was pleasantly surprised.

Next time we should BBQ....

Aiea78 - I am available monday at 600pm. The sooner the better. The left has a full court press on this. We can't sit on this.

I was only able to say for the an hour, due to husband duties and the wife one baking in the oven. It was nice to meet your Heavies!

Came and waved for two hours with the gf. Someone gave us a couple of flags, that was awesome and very much appreciated! Due to only learning about this the day before, I didn't have time to prep much. I think I'll pick up a big flag for the next one though.
I was disappointed with the numbers, we can do better. We need to have been 10 times as many people at the next one.

Hi everyone -- I highly recommend the movie Les Miserables (2012). I watched it with my wife and yesterday kind of reminded me of it. Besides, they really did a great job with the remake.
-
I have an important suggestion...
Lets make it a point for ALL future 2a appreciation days that we as a group visit our legislators in their office after the public sign waving.

Good idea. Let's try to set it up the sooner the better. Lets make a legislation day visit.

I'd like to meet Senator Ihara.

Can someone knowledgable about the legislative hearing process or calendar suggest a date?
Maybe a date before the next hearing on the bills or when they get sent to committee. I have no idea how to check these dates though so I don't know what date is good. Suggestions?

Lets get Chris (HDF) involved here. I know he has a full plate already, but this could be a game changer for everyone of us, if we don't get all over this right now.

if you go to the page that lists the bills proposed you can sign up for email notifications on upcoming hearings

maybe over the next day or two we could come up with a general outline for written testimony to submit to each of these bills, if we get enough people submitting written testimony and then we coordinate a visit to our legislator day for everyone that attended the rally plus whoever else can come, but have three or four spokes persons to speak with each of the legislators. What do you all think?

here are some guidelines in preparing a written testimony
1. KNOW YOUR ISSUE
Support your testimony and/or opinions with facts. Review the land use file on your case. Read any media reports on it, if applicable. Talk with elected officials, staff and your neighbors. Be knowledgeable about the opposition’s arguments and be prepared to counter them. The Web may be a useful tool to research planning issues.
2. KNOW THE LAND USE RECORD AND REGULATIONS
Review the application. The planning staff
3. PREPARE AN OUTLINE OF YOUR WRITTEN TESTIMONY TO SUBMIT
4. KNOW WHEN, WHERE AND BEFORE WHOM YOU WILL SUBMIT THE TESTIMONY.
GENERAL TIPS
1. When submitting written testimony be polite and project a positive image.
2. Submit your written testimony by the date and time specified on the notice.
3. Review the application submitted with supporting documentation
4. Be sure to include your name and address on the written testimony.
5. Be sure to reference the file number.

Thanks!
Any updates for new meetings? LMK!

Dean and I met up today, we have some ideas. Guns across America will be represented at a meeting. who else is going to be involved? we can't wait on this. we need to act now. strike while the iron is hot. we need to keep our momentum going

this helps our cause, but we need to keep up the pressure.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell: 202-224-2541
And after you have called Mitch McConnell, please call both of your U.S. Senators and demand they vote against Harry Reid's attempt to destroy the Senate filibuster.
