It seems like it's escalating. More and more armed robberies ever since the economy started going south. These stories don't make Kalihi look too good.

Damn. We need to get someone who lives in Kalihi to apply for their CCW and in the narrative simply write, "I live in Kalihi; 'nuff said."  :o

Thanks for reporting.. i got a lot out of these posts.  It does show the media's obsession over political correctness, though.  I wonder if we'll ever outgrow that as a nation..

But thanks again for posting the links.. very informative.

Haha, I spend a lot of time in Kalihi (at my gf's). My gf's mom has all the windows barred and I keep my handgun close! Luckily, I haven't seen/experienced anything too crazy thus far.

Police Open Attempted murder case after car hits building (http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/114673379.html)
No firearms were used in this incident, but it does show how CCW could really save lives.  A woman's EX stalks her, attacks her with brass knuckles, and then when she tries to flee, he jumps on the hood of her car.  So she drives him into a wall.  Pretty dramatic.

Oh and I really enjoyed this from the comments section:

Remember that DV a few years back where the guy practically killed his ex on the street by hitting her repeatedly with a shot gun. He even hit a by stander that tried to help.

Remember how people said they would've rammed their car into him.

Well the shoulda, woulda, coulda applies to this incident. I hope the girl doesn't get charged with anything. Her life was in danger, and she had to defend herself anyway possible. The bad thing about this story is, this guy will recover and more so try to get revenge on her.

I think this is caused by lack of education. Parents that own firearms should be training their kids at a young age about firearms safety, and the dangers, responsibility, and moral sense required when handling firearms.
Maybe schools should teach courses on firearms safety and the dangers associated with mishandling of firearms.

In the old days ROTC taught these things, if I am not mistaken. I never had that opportunity, but this is what I have heard.

But I fear political climate and correctness would make such a thing an impossibility.  :(

An 18-year-old woman, upset about another woman's boyfriend, assaulted the woman in a parking lot in Kailua, police said.

Police said the assailant has been angry for sometime with the victim because of a past relationship with the victim's boyfriend.

The victim was already in the parking lot about 8:30 p.m. Friday when the assailant pulled up, opened the victim's car door, and assaulted her as she sat in her car, police said.

Police fire TASER at suspect

http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/126037468.html (http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/126037468.html)

So, the suspect allegedly assaults a family member, advances on police holding a knife and shouting expletives, gets shot with a TASER to subdue him, and then he's booked and let back out into society where we peons aren't able to utilize the same tools the police use if we encounter this bozo who obviously has impulse control and anger management issues (and probably psych issues - not normal to cut yourself...).....Great :wtf:

Honolulu police arrested a man after he allegedly broke into the Makaha apartment of a woman trying to break up with him and threatened her Friday night.

Police said the man, 29, removed the louvers to a window of the Farrington Highway apartment and entered the unit without permission about 7:30 p.m. Friday. After an argument with the woman, 56, he threatened the woman with a kitchen knife.

The suspect was arrested and is being held pending charges of first-degree burglary and first-degree terroristic threatening, as well as several contempt cases.

Maybe threatening the man back with a phone worked this time?

Yep. In order to solve the problem of criminals who break laws, we need more laws that infringe the rights of the law-abiding non-criminals. It just makes sense.

Common sense; is not.

The current laws prohibit criminals from possessing firearms.

We do not need any more gun laws.

We need to simply enforce the current laws.

If we didn't spend millions of dollars a year prosecuting people for driving 10 miles over the speed limit then we would have the funds necessary to enforce the gun laws on the books already.

Just to make sure, that little rant about "common sense" gun legislation was sarcastic in nature.  (Any time you hear someone say the phrase "common sense" in regard to gun laws, common sense just said goodbye.  :D) Sometimes sarcasm doesn't come across correctly on the old interwebs, and I guess this was one of those times.  Sorry if I gave anyone the wrong impression.   ;)

Post by: Kingkeoni on August 12, 2011, 09:23:26 PM
Many years ago on Oahu there was the most bizarre crime ever.
If you're from Hawaii and old enough you might remember this.

There was a lady who wanted to kill her husband.

She went under a bridge and hired a big homeless guy named "Arti" to kill her husband.

He agreed to do it for one dollar.

She told the homeless guy to wait for her husband outside of Foodland Liliha, where he worked.

She decided to hide in her car in the parking lot to watch the killing.

At 10pm when her husband got off work this homeless guy approaches him and starts to choke the life out of him.

Another Foodland worker tried to stop the big homeless guy and the homeless guy turned to him and started choking the good Samaritan.

The wife watching all this realized that her plans had gone terribly awry and ran up to her hired killer and screamed at him to "Stop!"

She just startled him and he immediately starts choking the woman.

By this time the police arrived and arrested the homeless guy.

The next morning on the front page of the newspaper the headline read. "Arti chokes three for a dollar at Foodland."

This is My Rifle
Mark Maysey

Back in 69, I didn't have a care

Before they called my number, I chopped of all my hair

Said goodbye to mamma, dad and uncle Dan

Boarded an airplane and headed off for Nam

He called us to attention as we stepped off the plane

Checked us off a list as he called out our names

Then he picked up his rifle and raised it in the air

Grabbed his crotch with his other hand as we all stood and stared

He said...

Chorus
This is my rifle

This is my gun

One is for killing

The others for fun

So until this war is over

Or until your time is done

This is your rifle and this one is your gun

Thirty years have passed since I stepped off that plane

The nightmares haven't ended and neither has the pain

I've drank my share of liquor and smoked my share of grass

But I can't unload the memories or these few words from my past

Repeat Chorus

Well, a dear friend of mine finally called it quits

They found him one cold morning laying in a ditch

A bullet through his brain, his rifle at his side

And one old rusted dog tag from 1969

When they turned his body over they found his written note

It wasn't but a few lines, but the last he ever wrote

And when they laid him in his grave on that cold December day

I took those words he'd written and I began to play

Repeat Chorus

Back in 69, I didn't have a care

Before they called my number, I chopped off all my hair

I've thought about people impersonating police, and I think that if the police are on my doorstep, I'm going to tell them to wait out there while I call 911 and ask them to verify that there's a patrol car at my place.  Now the question is, what's one to do if they decide to kick the door down while I'm on the phone?   :shake:

Edit: because I was thinking of two different things, which made the little tyrade about no-knock warrants seem even crazier than it would have anyway.

This thread has been extremely helpful as I'm reapplying for my carry permit and I will be including, as enclosures to the application, printouts of every violent encounter that occurred in the last year, outside of the home, on Oahu (read: all incidents that COULD HAVE happened to me and left me without a means to defend myself). I have 47 enclosures thus far, so that should be fun. I figure if they're going to say no, I might as well make them feel dumb for saying "...the police department should be contacted immediately so that proper action may be initiated."

I haven't applied before, but I did get the command letter certifying that I meet the training requirements.  Then I sort of ran out of steam and was just kind of kicking around, waiting for the results of the lawsuit.   :-[  But I suppose it's kind of my duty to be a PITA to the firearms division, so I'll be applying.  I'd like to attach a copy of that enclosure, as well, if you don't mind sharing.

Sure, I'll try to scan it into PDF format tomorrow. If it's too big of a file, then we'll find a way to meet up so that I can give you copies. I honestly don't think it really matters whether or not you have the enclosure, they're still going to say no, but I suppose it can't hurt.

I'm sure you're right.  If you can get it scanned, cool, if not, that's ok, too.  They're not going to read it anyway , I just figured if you had an electronic copy I could throw that in my application, as well.

Wonder if this was a self defense case, or just a drunken brawl.
Tonight's news said the suspect is a body guard or something like that.

The StarBulletin reported he was a LEO from the State Department assigned to Diplomat protection or security. They (the State Department) are pretty quite about it. He is still in custody so I am guessing something wasn't quite right in terms of a "good shoot" but, that being said, it is possible it was a legitimate use of force for self-defense.....

The DSS is VERY well trained. I have a feeling that this was a good shoot but the authorities are a) having trouble understanding the concept of Disparity of Force and/or b) trying to keep the pubic happy by giving the appearance of doing due diligence.

Apparently the shootee had been drinking and was harassing people.  4 on 1 = disparity of force in my book.  Nobody knows the details,

check out this idiots comment.

Should the man, not boy, have been shot dead? I wasn't there but I'd still say no. Should that same man and his group of friends been harassing one lone person. No. Does allowing yourself to become overly intoxicated excuse you from the mistakes you make? No. Is the federal agent allowed to carry a weapon when off duty? Yes. Did the agent go to far. I wasn't there but I'd still say yes. Was that agent afraid for his life. I wasn't there but I know I would be.  :wtf: Who created the problem? The men who harassed the agent. Who's responsible for the death? The agent, the man who was shot, and his friends who helped him create the problem in the first place. Everyone who was involved needs to accept the fact that they are at fault for this tragedy.

I just don't get the KHON report.

Made the agent look bad, with no evidence whatsoever... and no one even knew what exactly transpired.
90% of the pictures of the victim was full of booze.

This is why I don't watch the network news anymore....

Until the details are disclosed, no one can definitively say who was right or wrong.

The news always twists it to garner the highest ratings that they can. They're not in the least bit interested in the truth.

I know if I were the Federal Agent facing 4 to 1 odds, if I were to draw my weapon and the other people continued to aggressively move towards me, my choices would be very limited.

Did the agent over react or was he justified.

Another angle is, was he protecting someone at the time. If it wasnt his life he was defending but rather the life of some foreign president or dignitary, then his actions could indeed be justified.

I wonder how many of the robberies/Murders were done by People who had the proper permits to acquire firearms? Seems a lot of them were felons to begin with.
I know in the Bryan Uyesugi case he was a collector but he was committed to the mental ward before and they should have taken them away then. or should they?

What does the victim's gun ownership have to do with anything?  I'd like to know what happened, but none of those pictures look like the guy getting his ass stomped had a gun on him, do they?

EDIT: Disregard.  The guy was a jewelry store owner who SHOULD have had a gun!

I did take a minute to point out on the article's comments section that per HRS: firearms shall be confined to the possessor's home or place of business.  This dude needs to get some training and a gun.

Not generally recommended (tactically, but it got the desired effect.  Depending on the state laws (as they vary across the nation) he could be charged with "brandishing" in Ohio for instance.  He likely will not be so charged in Washington.

KAILUA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police have opened an investigation after receiving reports of shots being fired in Kailua Tuesday night.
Posted: Jun 27, 2012 4:05 AM HST Updated: Jun 27, 2012 6:23 AM HST

According to officials, the incident happened near the Shell and Chevron gas stations off Oneawa Street and Kuulei Road at about 9:30 p.m.

A Shell employee tells Hawaii News Now that a man in a white pickup truck parked behind the gas station, ran across the street near a bank and opened fire on a blue SUV. The employee says the man then ran back to his truck and fled the scene. He was wearing a blue hoodie.

Police taped off the area to search for bullet casings. For now, police have classified the case as reckless endangerment.

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on about this case is asked to call police.

If you read the KGBS website it has more details.

"A Shell employee tells Hawaii News Now that a man in a white pickup truck parked behind the gas station, ran across the street near a bank and opened fire on a blue SUV.
The Shell employee heard the man say "Check yo'self fool." The employee says the man then ran back to his truck and fled the scene. He was wearing a blue hoodie, and as he ran, his loose pants fell down to his ankles and tripped him. Police believe the man is a part of the notorious Manapua bandits gang."

I think it would be a good idea to print out every single incident and including it with your CCW permit application.

Woman shot on Molokai by ex.
http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/20130328_Woman_witnessed_friends_shooting_death_on_Molokai.html?id=200519911 (http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/20130328_Woman_witnessed_friends_shooting_death_on_Molokai.html?id=200519911)

Several items that should point the Feds to the (obvious) conclusion that their measures won't do diddly & they are looking at things incorrectly;
Quote
The victim's friend, Nicole Aea, testified Wednesday at a preliminary hearing that Kahalewai was sitting on a porch when Lavoie returned and shot her outside a friend's apartment at the Kawela Barns complex. The Maui News reported. Aea said the shooting occurred after Kahalewai repeatedly told Lavoie to leave.
To me this seems to imply that the LEO's are only minutes away, but this did nothing to deter or prevent this woman being killed.

Quote
Wailuku District Judge Adrianne Heely ruled Wednesday that there was sufficient evidence to support the second-degree murder charge, as well as other charges including use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and being a felon in possession of a firearm or ammunition.
Felon still got a firearm despite Hawaii having some of the toughest laws in the country.

Quote
Police recovered the weapon, a Remington bolt-action 30-06 rifle with a scope, Mahoney said. The rifle was registered to a man who acquired it in 2011 and told Molokai police that he had transferred the rifle to Lavoie shortly afterward.
Straw purchase, but we all know criminals will get firearms no matter what.

How could the LEO's deter or prevent it if they had no knowledge of the situation? People need to be proactive sometimes. It's true, that you shouldn't rely on the Police to save you. The girlfriend should have gotten a TRO when he was arrested for the abuse. That's what the 24 hour warning citation was issued for. When he showed up to the house, Police should have been called immediately.

Interesting use of the word "transferred". That's implying that the gun was legally registered.
Deter/prevent - there was enough time for a call (although we don't know if one was made or not) to the LEO's, however the big clue is "The rifle was registered to a man who acquired it in 2011 and told Molokai police that he had transferred the rifle to Lavoie shortly afterward."  Unless the original buyer is lying the LEO's knew that the guy had illegally acquired the long gun.

This issue was brought up only several days ago here, how most think (as did I) that unless specifically going after some person, the LEO's generally do not go out and try to seize firearms from people.  Same thing goes for checking that people are registering firearms within the alloted time frame per HRS.

I highly doubt that Police were called prior. According to media reports, Lavoie entered the house, and was speaking to Kahalewai for approximately 30 minutes before they went outside.

By the media stating the firearm was "transferred" implies that it was legally registered to Lavoie. I highly doubt that was the case. Background checks when applying for a permit to acquire would show that he was a convicted felon.

Also to further back up what you said about criminals will get firearms no matter what. If Police were going to seize any firearms from Lavoie because of an abuse, TRO, etc, they would have no knowledge of it, because there would be no firearms registered to him. You can only seize what you know is there. Unless it was reported by someone that he was in possession of firearms, or if they were in plain view, how would Police be able to seize any?

All valid points.  We'll need to wait until the heresay has been weeded through and we know what actually happened with the rifle.

If I was this guy I would have taken my chances and ran onto the freeway. Well lit. More traffic. Hopefully more people around.  Might get bang, but thats the chance I would take.

My sister was also telling me about another incident a few weeks back where an old man got beat up at the bus stop of hoftailing and bertania, the block before farrington high school. Possibly same group of people doing this.

I just read through this thread and noticed all the links provided lead to various news agencies.  I am sure more of these never make it to the newspapers and tv newscasts.  Is there a website where one could get all the statistics?  Everything from the whole state to each county, firearm use, knife/sword use, other weapons used, no weapons used, gender, on or off drug/alcohol use, etc...  I am just curious.  I just want to throw something back to politicians who are trying to take the 2A away from law abiding people.

What is strange, the woman driving alone on H-3, gets into a confrontation with the 3 bikers, then FOLLOWS THE BIKERS AND CALLS FOR FAMILY TO MEET HER.  They confront the bikers in Waimanalo at Kalanianaole.  That's when the one biker fired 2 shots into the ground.

This is so reminiscent of Deedy and Elderts.  The woman had every opportunity to call 9-1-1 or just leave.  Instead, she confronted the bikers WITH A GANG OF FAMILY (according to the news).  People need to learn, you might be mad as hell, but fighting is NOT going to solve anything.  This group ran into a man with a gun.  They probably thought they could just beat the bikers up and call it a day.  Instead, they ran into a situation where they could have been killed -- quite possible in self defense since she followed then and called for "backup".

It will be interesting to hear what started this circus, but the guy with the gun better be off duty HPD or on his way to Koko Head Range!!         :geekdanc:           :geekdanc:

HPD officer struck after attempted murder on N. School St.
September 1, 2013

Officers were sent to the scene where they found about 50 people fighting on the street. Police discovered that a 21-year-old man had been stabbed and another man, 25, had sustained a puncture wound to his shoulder.

We have to actually give up our RIGHT to enjoy public property because of the activities of criminals. The police actually told this kid "That's why it's illegal to park up here after 11pm".

What incredible BS. I know this is the result of what happened when yet another felon went crazy and shot people up there. This isn't how to handle it though, not just giving in and declaring the area a "No Go Zone" for the citizens after a certain time due to criminal activity.

At this point, if HPD manages to capture this assmonkey "Watson", he should be thrown in jail for life. Why the f*ck should we be denied the RIGHT to defend ourselves against scumbag punks like this, that would hold a gun to someone's head for $15.

It's long past time to make Sh*tbags like this pay the price for their actions.

I see no mention in any of the articles that he was charged with any firearms violations. I guess it's one of those extremely rare cases where a previously law-abiding citizen who is a lawfully registered firearms owner suddenly goes berserk. Sure it was. Any bets on whether that guy has a previous "record" and that that record qualifies him as a "prohibited person" or that the gun he used was lawfully registered to him?

If anything, we encourage people to be good witnesses pay attention to their demeanor, what did they look like? How tall they are? What do they weight? Any scars marks or tattoos? I've always felt it's easier to describe the perp if he's lying inside a white outline.

But, that's me.    :geekdanc:

Seriously, though, trying to tell someone how to react to a crime before it happens is ridiculous.  Nobody can predict the number of perps, how they are acting (amped, crazy, calm, focused, violent...), how many others are home, how accessible a weapon is to you, what opportunities might present themselves to resist, and so on.

If you think cooperating will save your life, don't count on it.....

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=store+clrerk+shot+killed+after+cooperating+&atb=v231-1&ia=web&iai=r1-1&page=1&sexp=%7B%22cdrexp%22%3A%22b%22%2C%22prodexp%22%3A%22b%22%2C%22prdsdexp%22%3A%22c%22%2C%22biaexp%22%3A%22b%22%2C%22msvrtexp%22%3A%22b%22%7D

Criminals create their own "code" and rules for their encounters.  If you break his rules (of course, you don't know his rules), he feels justified in killing you.

If you spend time memorizing what a perp looks like, and he sees you doing it, he might be more inclined to eliminate you as a witness.  So, don't advise people to do something that might be just as bad for them as resisting -- and with no chance of increasing your chance of surviving.

For the same reason the state should not tell us how many rounds we need in a pistol or rifle, they should also not pretend to tell us what behavior will ensure our survival during a crime.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.  Some, also, want to experience the "thrill" of shooting another human being.  Then there are the gangs that require a murder for initiation.

Yeah.  Never assume you know what the criminals intentions are.  They are a threat, and it's never a given what your behavior will or won't cause them to do.

My life.  My judgement.  My decision.

Allow "anyone?"  What about the staff.  Are they not ALLOWED to protect themselves at work?  If they keep their firearms concealed and under their immediate control (holstered), what's the harm?

What happens when someone is determined to bring a gun in?  Do all assisted living homes have armed security 24/7 able to respond in a few seconds?  If not, did they "allow" it?

Where there's a will, there's a way.

The REAL question is, do we as human beings have the duty to stop someone who chooses suicide?  Aren't you taking the right to die on their own terms away from them?  Are you against assisted suicide?  What if the couple used pills instead?  Would you still be upset that they decided to leave this life the same way they lived it -- together?  Or are you just complaining about the means used?

Lots more questions than "Who ALLOWED a gun in the facility?"

In the HPD web page of suspects wanted for questioning, what do they mean by "Na Maka?" Google translation is "and eyes." Why don't they just run these photos through the DMV data base? FBI seems to catch a lot of suspects using even less information. In China and Russia, facial recognition seems to be very effective.

Just for fun.. I looked through that link. Covid is really helping these bad people out. Its not unusual to see someone in broad daylight or dead of night wearing a mask thats covering half their face anymore. 1 problem is that facial recognition is based on more than just eyes. Iirc Takes measurements from known distances.. Eyes to ears/ slopes of eyes/ cheek bone/ facial structure/ distance from lips to nose/ lips width etc. With a mask over half those things are gone. Then you got plastic surgery. Sometimes no one looks like their I.d.. Lol

Didnt know a link like that existed. Fun read though!

Before fingerprinting, law enforcement used to take measurements of facial features and record them on arrest records:  distances between and sizes of features, etc.  Then one day, a Black man was mistaken for another Black man whose measurements were identical to each other.  It was theorized that no matter how closely two people resembled one another, there would have to be a variation in size and relative position of both ears, both eyes, the nose, etc.  The fallibility of that system created the need for another identification method with less of a chance of false positives.

I find it interesting that we are now combining fingerprints with facial recognition.  While the facial identification process is still flawed, it can identify and locate a suspect who may then be verified or eliminated as a suspect through fingerprints, DNA, etc.

I agree with the mask assessment.  It's got to be harder to watch people walking to/from the airport trying to spot fugitives using just a composite sketch or mugshot.

I tink I saw the quasi Meg Ryan lookalike (CID 21/1324) at 7:18 AM this morning at the intersection of Dillingham Blvd and N. King Street. She was wearing black pants. Easy enough for HPD to check their cameras in the area, as well as cellphone records. The lady was talking on her cellphone. Could be a burner, maybe not. Book 'em, Danno.

This is not the news we need as more tourists are returning to visit the state. Governor Ige should consider starting a crime task force under the code name, Hawaii Rangers. Seems like we need a group of law enforcement officers as tenacious as the Texas Rangers. At this stage we do not know if the death is due to a suicide attempt, contract killing, or body dump from a car accident. More surveillance cameras should be placed around the city.

Two men attempted to rob Poseidon jewelers yesterday, and auntie thwarted the crime. Sgt. Kim should carefully analyze the backpack that was recovered for DNA evidence. Crime forensics in HI are not as "state of the art" as the mainland. Police need to capture criminals, otherwise faith in law enforcement declines to the point where concealed carry is the only defense. I also recommend that auntie equip herself with a 4K body cam, and start carrying a Taser starting Jan. 1.

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2021/11/30/surveillance-video-captures-robbers-posing-delivery-men-attempted-jewelry-store-heist/ (https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2021/11/30/surveillance-video-captures-robbers-posing-delivery-men-attempted-jewelry-store-heist/)

In the meantime, Homeland Security is finally starting to get results in normal crime investigations, because they helped to arrest two fugitives on the mainland.

A national wave of robberies in retail stores has led to some of these crimes being linked to organized crime. Could the Mafia be establishing a foothold in Hawaii? Bring back Five-O.
https://finance.yahoo.com/video/organized-crime-behind-spate-retail-201349966.html (https://finance.yahoo.com/video/organized-crime-behind-spate-retail-201349966.html)

Breaking news: Old man found encased in concrete in Hawaii Loa Ridge home. Not the richest home in the neighborhood, but valued at $2.1 million, which is not chump change. This is in a gated community, with video cameras that are on 24/7. Probably evidence of tons of hanky-panky liaisons and shady gambling too, just like in a Hawaii Five-0 episode early in that TV series.

Quote
His body was found in a standalone bathtub covered in concrete. Coffee grounds were on top of the concrete, likely to hide the smell of decomposition.

Reminds me of a Harry Bosch novel, The Concrete Blonde, where the deceased was a woman.

According to HPD, the murder suspect used a belt to strangle the victim, and attempted to make the death look like a suicide by slashing the old man's wrists. The alleged killer tried to escape to Mexico while he was in Los Angeles.

A manhunt is underway following a string of brazen daytime robberies in and around Ala Moana Center, prompting experts to underscore vigilance as the holiday shopping season begins.

Witnesses say the suspects appear to be teenagers and that they were armed with a machete.

Assault outside Mililani supermarket
now an attempted murder investigation,
HPD says

By "supermarket," they mean Walmart.

Quote
MILILANI, Hawaii (KITV4) -- An assault that left two people injured in Mililani is
now being investigated as an attempted murder case, Honolulu Police say.

One person has been arrested after police were called out to a report of an
aggravated assault in the Mililani Walmart parking lot located in the 95-600
block of Lanikuhana Avenue just after 9 a.m.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS) confirmed to KITV4 that they
transported two patients from the scene – one patient, a 37-year-old woman was
in critical condition and a 40-year-old man was in serious condition.

According to EMS, the woman was run over by a car and then assaulted after
being hit. The man was treated for multiple injuries sustained after he too was
assaulted, EMS reported.

Honolulu Police say the woman was injured after being struck by a car and the
man was injured while assisting the woman.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries he
sustained during his arrest, HPD says.

Neither the suspect nor the victims have been identified. Investigators have not
said what led up to the attack.

This is a developing story. Check back with KITV4 for more information.

About the same time I saw the Walmart attempted murder report on my Ring doorbell Neighbors app, I also saw a report of a stabbing in the first block of Lanikuhana.

KHON2 and HawaiiNewsNow both reported on the Walmart incident.  Neither say anything about a stabbing.

The person posting this did add a disclaimer: This incident has not been confirmed.

Officials say multiple suspects tried to flee when the suspect opened fire, striking the victims.
HPD said at some point, a 42-year-old male resident of the home fatally shot the suspect with a handgun.
The 42-year-old male resident who shot the suspect has been arrested for second-degree murder.

Man rams cars with front end loader.
Man opens fire on unarmed civilians.
Resident shoots suspect  stopping him from killing others.
Resident arrested for 2nd degree murder.

Sounds like a complicated situation. Perhaps the man that ended to shooter was the initial aggressor?  Sounds like a neighbor dispute gone wildly wrong.

I’d bet they was having and bash out party, probably a regular occurrence, blocking some dudes driveway,  dude probably called the police 50x previous, yet nothing was done. Dude might have gone over and told them to move their vehicles, they attacked, dude had enough and went nuts.

I don’t know anything about this particular incident, but in my minds eye, that’s how I see it playing out.

HPD hasn't arrested the last several legit self-defense shooters, at least the clear cut ones, so there's probably a lot going on here.  When a guy drives a loader with 4 drums of fuel into a house while shooting you know there's gotta be a lot going on.

News reported a simmering feud between neighbors.

I guess the pot boiled over.

Would increased police presence have prevented this from happening?

There's no love anymore.  No respect.  No compassion.

Increased police presence isn’t going to do anything if the police are powerless to react.  If they can’t do anything, nothing is going to get better.

Crime runs rampant because there is zero consequences for criminals.

I've lived in communities like Mililani, Waipahu and Kalihi. Neighbors have no care about noise anymore. Houses are closer together. Loud karaoke parties on weeknights, loud gatherings, and random fireworks. Mililani and where I live in Waipahu have rec centers for parties and the like but the neighbors I have had don't care about their fellow neighbors. People speak about "aloha" but don't act on it. It's just an empty word like R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Current culture is all about M-E and A-I-N-O-K-E-A. If you get in selfish people's way of being an ass of a neighbor you are wrong (oppressive, racist, mainland attitude etc.)

I looked up 2nd degree murder and as usual for me, it's clear as mud.  As far as putting it into context as to what happened in this incident.

I hope more information comes out as to why they slapped this charge upon the 42 year old man whose house was being rammed by the front loader.

What was he supposed to do?  Ask nicely to stop?  Kinda past that don't you think?

Was he supposed to aim for the leg?

Was it because he did a mag dump on the guy?  Did he continue to shoot the guy after the guy is down?

HPD should explain why the 2nd degree murder charge.

Probably not a clear cut self-defense shooting.  Like maybe the loader guy came over to complain about noise late at night and the handgun guy threatened him with a gun, which would be initiating or escalating the incident and remove self-defense protections.

We're back to promoting fisting again.

The shootings were particularly tragic, Landford said, because an uncle in one of the families had been talking to Landford and other members of the neighborhood board about settling disputes between younger Waianae residents the “old-school way.”

Growing up in the old days, you fist it out, shook hands and it’s over,” Landford said. “An uncle would tell the kids, ‘Once you leave the yard it’s over. You cannot call your cousin or brother or father. It’s over. The thing is done and everybody goes home.’ We cannot do that anymore. Now with social media, kids think they’re all Al Capone. It’s tough.”

The community fosters its own culture. I wonder why these events don't occur frequently in other neighborhoods like Hawaii Kai? If you look at race and income you're like that witch doctor that looks at only the symptoms and not the disease.

I'm guessing drugs and money are a major reason for the Westside violence.  Money makes people do stuoopid things. Drugs make people fearless and stoopider.
Actually, I think drugs and money form a vicious cycle.

Bad parenting.  Fatherless children.  Drug mommies.  Wearing bling bling while their hanna batta babies wear 2 day old diapers filled with shiite.

I remember years ago an article about parents teaching their children how to exploit the welfare system.

And the best was a buff looking surfer buying booze at foodland pupukea with food stamps his girlfriend gave him.  He was in cahoots with the foodland cashier.

Hell when I was working I had a co-worker who had a billion children with his girlfriend and they were exploiting the welfare system even though he was making good money as an electrician.  He moved in with his girlfriend and the girlfriend never reported him as part of the household wage earner.

I digress.  But anyway, there are a lot of social ills starting from stupid liberal crap that was introduced in the early 70's that I believe are the root of our social collapse today.  Meaning lack of consideration, respect for private property, etc.  This probably led to what happened with this incident.

A large portion of our young population simply was not raised right.

My opinion.  Of course.

Waiting on information on the identity of the dead and wounded victims.  Who are they and what relation to anybody there.  How come no information on them.

The family is afraid of retaliation from Silva's family.  Yes, understandable.

Can Silva's family say the same?  Or are they the "ainokea" type?

The dead and wounded victims have family too.
