General Discussion / Brownells aluma hyde in coyote vs. Magpul FDE
« on: April 23, 2014, 08:09:06 AM »
Just thought I'd share a comparison and little review of this. Sprayed the handle of my tape gun using the coyote shade of aluma hyde as a test to see how it would turn out and you can barely tell the difference between the coyote and the magpul FDE. I been looking for this stuff for a little while then heard security equipment had it in stock for about $15. Takes some time to dry though and I've heard of people putting their parts in the oven on low for a while to bake it on. So hope this helps for anyone that was looking into this and didn't know if the color matched up, I'm very happy with the way it matches up with the magpul FDE and will probably buy this in the future if I need more. Sorry if this is a repost but I haven't seen anything on here about this so just some FYI

Im surprised and glad that we're seeing good progression on the range. Something is better than nothing but Im really hoping theyre considering opening up targets past  100 yards or working on it also, that's would be cherry!!

^ Thats the actual 60 Minutes interview part one of two, intense story, you can hear it in his voice and see it in his eyes that he is forever a changed man from this incident...

^ That's an interview with Glenn Beck, whom I strongly dislike, about how Marcus Lutrells' service dog, which was given to him to help with his PTSD I assume, was shot and killed after he returned home by some punks...even more sad than what he went through on the mountain...

The US government is trying to take guns away for its citizens, yet it is giving aid and weapons to Syrian "rebels" to fight its government. Nuff said.

General Discussion / Re: Petition Walmart
« on: January 02, 2014, 07:09:50 AM »
It would be nice but you got to factor in shipping cost and hazards material fee and then all the training they have to do for the employes.  I'm sorry but Walmart employe the dumbest people around that don't know shit or give a shit about what they sale.  I would support the LGS as you can ask them questions on the product you're buying.  I wouldn't buy any thing that I might have use to save my life on from Walmart.

I got family that works at wal mart and they sure aren't dumb. You shouldn't let one bad apple let you generalize everyone in the bunch and call them dumb, especially when you have poor grammar...just sayin....

I think outlawing full auto is reasonable
Disagree. Slippery slope, give em an inch, they take a mile.

I think preventing felons form owning firearms is reasonable
Agree, but the crimes need to be specific when pertaining what they did and how the crime prohibits them from having a gun.

I think preventing someone from certain diagnosed mental disorders is reasonable
Agree. The mental disorder needs to be diagnosed correctly and the law needs to be refined and specific.

I think background checks are reasonable (otherwise it would be impossible to screen for felons and mentally unstable people)
Agree. I don't think just anyone should be able to own a gun, like the examples of felons and people with mental disorders.

I think outlawing explosives is reasonable.
Disagree. I think the same steps and even more should be taken to acquiring explosives that there are to getting a gun, extensive background checks and mental health checks should be done in this case.

I am against magazine capacity limit laws.
Agree. Magazine cap laws are hogwash.

I am undecided on whether the registration of firearms are reasonable.
This practice needs to be stopped immediately.

I am for concealed carry only after meeting certain requirements
Agree. But what requirements? I don't think Id be against a written test, like taking one to get your drivers permit. You should know what youre doing with a concealed weapon and how to handle certain situations, like the above video when encountering a cop, if you can pass the test that asks you what you should do in these situations then you shouldn't have a problem in day to day life carrying a concealed weapon.

A person has taken a CC training class which would include firearm training and legal training
Agree. This could go hand in hand with the written test after the class or course is complete, but it cant be too bureaucratic to where its ridiculously expensive to take this class and should be easily available to the public to take.

A person has to obtain a permit to CC a firearm (maybe even to include the specific firearm allowed to carry on it)
Agree. The permit should be given after completing the course and test for CC, though I disagree it should be weapon specific.

A person cannot carry a CC firearm while they are intoxicated
Agree. Driving a car is like handling a weapon and there are zero tolerance views on this so why not with guns. Look at the Chris Deedy case, I don't care if youre a cop or federal agent or anything like that, if you are consuming alcohol, even just one, you have no business carrying a weapon, it can cloud your judgment and poor decisions can be made. You want to be a gun owner, be responsible and choose either to carry a weapon, or drink, you cant have both.

Metal Storm!!!!

I saw that thing a while ago, its pretty awesome but would most likely and be useful in applications like crowd control, but no one fights wars like braveheart anymore where you got thousands of guys rushing you at once. What other real world application could you think of for this?

So that raises the question, if you could have only one from the list, which one would you want?

I'm really split on the MK-19, the M-134 and the 20mm rifle but I think I'll have to go with the minigun...

General Discussion / Re: Why do you need and AR15?
« on: December 14, 2013, 05:31:49 PM »
A few facts about gun fights, defending yourself against an aggressor.

You don't get to choose when a gunfight happens.
You don't get to choose where a gunfight happens.
You don't get to choose who you are in a gunfight with.
You don't get to choose how many people you will be in a gun fight with.
You don't get to choose what kind of guns or equipment they will be using.
You don't get to choose what kind of mindset they will be thinking.

You DO get to choose what kind of firearm you can keep at ready.
You DO get to choose whether to put in the proper time training with that firearm.

The factors are almost always stacked against you. The one variable you can control is using the best firearm you can, and knowing how to use it the best you can.

I liked this answer...

I think Q has the winning answer.

Definitely wouldn't mind giving this answer and picture to Piers Morgan, but then I'm sure he'd use it in a way to discredit the cause....

1.  Welcome to the forum, Rogue076.

2.  Punctuation is your friend.

3.  If a new member to ANY forum asks a "loaded" question, it is only natural to expect that the question (and by extension, the new forum member) be met with a certain amount of suspicion.

4.  I am not sure what you mean when you say, "its kinda futile to ask these things on a pro gun forum."  This statement, alone, pushes the indicator toward the "more suspicious" side of my internal Bullshit Detector.  Despite the way in which certain politicians and the media try to demonize gun owners, and despite the (mis)perceptions that members of the non-gun owning general public may have, the majority of gun owners are respectful, responsible, intelligent individuals, who can rationally discuss gun-related and non-gun-related issues. As evidenced by the responses from the forum members, thus far, I hope this would have been self-evident.

5.  Amendment II to the Constitution of the United States of America provides that, "...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."  There is a distinction between a "need" and a "right."  What do you think would happen if that same question that pro-gun control proponents are using, were applied to the First Amendment ("Why do you need to have the ability to practice your form of religion?" Or, "Why do you need to have the ability to say or write whatever you want to say or write?"), the Fourth Amendment ("Why do you need to have a right against unreasonable searches and seizures?"), or the Fifth Amendment ("Why do you need to have due process before being deprived of life, liberty, or property?").  It isn't about a "need"... it is all about a "right."

When I said futile I meant that when I'm asking a pro gun forum a question about this kind of thing, I'm definitely gonna get a pro gun answer. The question I asked was kinda meant to be more of a light hearted question, a bash at Piers Morgan if you will, but at the same time it could be taken serisouly because hes obviously using it for an anti gun agenda. It was more or less a hypothetical one, if you were sitting in his show being interviewed, what would you tell him. And I understand and appreciate the distinction between the "need" and the "right" as well as that perspective. This would be a whole other thread but when it comes down to the rights of americans, I feel they are slowly being swept out from under us...

Apologies, Rogue76. We're being monitored by someone [ he who shall not be named] who has an anti-gun agenda and it has us all in a heightened state of awareness, especially since the range closure. Your question was typical of something "he" would ask. I myself am considered a "newbie" here even though I've been a member since 2010. I've only recently become more involved and the members have been very accepting, and I don't think any of them know what I shoot!
We're having a range clean up day on the 29th, come on out if you have the time, and meet these guys, they're a good group and I'm sure you'll learn a lot.

Typical gun owers...blast first, ask questions later! JK! And I'm sure everyone here is pretty cool but theres always someone that wants to be cooler than the other but that's anywhere you go so it doesn't really bother me at all. Thanks for clearing things up though...

Great.  Let's just insult other gun owners and establish a stereotype of AR owners.  Everyone does have to start somewhere.  Did you offer some advice/guidance to perhaps help a "noob"?  Bet not.  Not everyone is lucky enough to have proper training.  You probably just watched and laughed to yourself about how there are sooo many "noobs" with AR's and how awesome you are.

I admit I have seen new AR owners that probably never shot before(seen guys that don't know how to lock the bolt back manually), but instead of judging them, how about you offer some tips of proper shooting technique or safe gun handling?  Most "noobs" are very receptive to advice.

Well said.

I would like to add this to the discussion. For all of those who look down upon the AR-15 I want you to know this. I am not a HUGE fan of the AR-15 platform. I never was. I got into it because I wanted a semi-auto rifle that shoots the same round as my Remy 700 5R. When I heard how accurate they can be if done right I decided I wanted a new project to work on and I purchased a few lowers from X-Ring. I figured after I build and shoot it I could probably sell it to fund the next one. I built my first AR and I have to say it is a damn fine piece of workmanship. It shoots 0.50" MOA to 0.75" MOA all day long at 100yds with my handloads. Only my bolt gun can shoot tighter groups. But now that I have built one, I decided to build a 300 AAC Blackout. Which before the range closure was showing some promise to be a good 200yd hunting rifle. And when time and money permits there might even be a third AR-15 platform in my safe. I am thinking either a 50 Beowolf or a Ruger 204. Or maybe both? I don't know. I have more fun building them and loading for them. But they are not as nice as my bolt guns and will never replace them. But they will sit next to them in my safe.

Also, I shoot most of the time with the Black Powder Shooters on Sundays. And I have to say I now own a Black Powder rifle and pistol and enjoy shooting them often. But on the other hand I have inspired two of them to build their own AR-15's and now they bring them often and shoot them right next to their black powder rifles. One of them is now building a 300 AAC Blackout just as I did. He is like me. Our passion lies elsewhere but the AR-15 platform has its place in our safes

In the meantime the AR-15 platform is what helps bring new shooters into our fold. I and I think it is not a good idea to make fun of those people as they are not only among us (as in our friends, family and 2A Members) but they are also the future of the shooting sports. To alienate them will only divide us shooters up into smaller parts. As one group we are stronger and have a chance at defeating those that want to take away our rights. So make fun of those of us who own AR-15's even tho I am far from a noob. Just remember there may be consequences to what you say. JMHO

Im a new gun owner, which is what brought me here to get informed, educated and help me be the most responsible gun owner I can be but I guess theres always that "cool kid" anywhere you go with anything you do. For me the AR15 was cheap and its easily customizable for what I want it for, very easy to shoot and handle and just all around a good gun. I think you made a good point about alienating others in the gun community, I think guns and gun owners are under enough scrutiny, we don't need to scrutinize each other....
