i fail to see "science" here...

Essential Meaning of moral
1: concerning or relating to what is right and wrong in human behavior
The church takes a strong stand on a number of moral [=ethical] issues.
The author avoids making moral judgments.

2: based on what you think is right and good

He's a man with strong moral convictions. [=a man who believes strongly that some things are right and others are wrong]
We're confident she has the moral fiber/fortitude to make the right decision.

Statement of science or the statement that started this chain?

I am aware that its not tied to science,  I've been arguing that it should be.

Just to clarify, Religion and Morals should be derived from science ?
If so…
Hope you have your next 19 answers ready and have already argued with yourself.
(Hint: you already”proved” science is immoral with your rape scenario. Unless morals are tied to science. Then extrapolate to murder, etc, etc, etc….)

Not religion, just morals.  Religion is basically the antithesis of science.  Blind faith that is unprovable.

Morals you can run studies that can prove what is good or bad for a civilization.  Don't need religion to play that role anymore.

ok, now that you have finally said it (semi) clearly, morals should be (in your opinion) or are based on science?

The title of this thread should be changed from religion to:

"omni's arguments about how he feels what religion is, and not  talking about specific deities or worships".

I mean if someone saw this title and wanted to see the debate as to which god is better and stuff like that, they are in for an awakening.

Omni-ism is all over this thread.

X person brings up A point. Omni chimes in as usual with the opposite feelings.
X,Y, Z persons then brings up B  point to counter Omni's feelings, omni moves goal post or brings up another moot info to back up his feeling
X,Y, Z, persons bring up point C to counter again, and goal post moved or like actions
Then 17 pages later and repeat as necessary.

In my opinion they should be.  They are not directly linked to science.  People obviously used some science and disguised it as religion etc.

This is a catch all thread.  Anything related to religion.  Morals relate.

Feel free to discuss which magic man in the sky is better or not.   I'll side with neither exist.  My opinion remains the same all religions on earth are false.   There may be a higher power who knows.

A majority of people on the PLANET believe in God.

All major religions are monotheistic.

Even more believe religion has a beneficial purpose in society.

Sounds like a consensus.  According to you, that's no different than "science".
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Found this interesting.

“ Marx’s actual words regarding religion deserve reflection. My best translation of those words is as follows: “Religion is the opium of the people. It is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of our soulless conditions.”

Overall, Marx is speaking not as a man of faith but rather as a secular humanist. However, he does appear to suggest a largely positive role religion could play in an exploitative and alienating society. Human beings have the distressing habit of killing one another because of religious differences, and some of our most religious citizens wear the biggest of blinders. But Marx is right that our society can use a “heart” and a “soul” wherever we might find it.”
