Well not really. I am not going today. But if you are, why don't you post a message here so perhaps other like-minded individuals will do the same.
Then people can socialize in person. You could say where and when you are going, and some sort of distinctive description so you can be identified.
Example:
Today july 12 khsc rifle side. Look for fat guy in orange pants, and green Paracord bracelet. Around 2pm.
This could be an ongoing sticky thread.
good idea...
i second the sticky motion
I've been going to the range for the past 6 days. It's been really busy with the National Matches in full swing,..
Planning for wed 7.16...
Khsc pistol.
Look for chronograph.
...
Great day for pistol shooting. Very empty. Hooked up with mr. MUSUBI !
Will probably go tomorrow too. Friday.
Anybody else?
Rifle side was pretty crowded today, hot but at least had a breeze. Met a RO that calls himself "Slick" I think. Real nice guy, helped me improve my technique.
Slick is a pretty cool guy. One of my favorite ROs at the range. :thumbsup:He pretty much taught me everything I know about bench shooting (correctly).
Rifle bench 92. Lots of old military rifles over here. Come by talk story....
I got to shoot a couple Sharps rifles in 45-70 and 45-90. I shot a few different Mausers in different calibers ranging from 6.5mm to 11mm and from numerous countries of manufacture. I also got to shoot an Arisaka along with numerous muzzle loading rifles and pistols. Someone there had a pepperbox. There was an AR in 300BLK a 308 bolt action and a .17HMR. All this plus a couple of early 1900's .22 target rifles. A great collection of old and reproductions made for a great day today..
some people got lost on the way to the range...
http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/26421105/firefighters-rescue-hikers-from-koko-head (http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/26421105/firefighters-rescue-hikers-from-koko-head)
I wonder who the 2 women who "got stuck" are?
Also, what does "got stuck" mean? Maybe we need HNN writers with a slightly more developed English vocabulary?
Were they unable to climb back out?
Were they too frightened of falling to attempt climbing up?
Were they terrified of the bullets they heard whizzing by their heads? :shake:
"Got stuck" is a result. I'd really be interested in the cause.
I am curious about something. I have personally seen 5 rescues while at the range. The first 4 they stopped all shooting during the rescues. The last 1 they did not stop the shooting. Are they supposed to stop? There's the brow and we get scolded if we point anything beyond parallel to the ground.
...
I can see it all now.
Somebody walks up to a chubby guy with a chrono and asks "are you old fart?"
The person says "what'd you call me?"
"Oh. Sorry. Wrong person." And walks away.
is the range open next monday holiday? khsc calendar says is closed on the 13 Oct.
hmmm...
i guess it's not a c&c holiday

Went to HFD, met a realy nice guy Brett and his family celebrating a birthday at the range how cool. Awesome, Dad & Bday girl got to make some loud noise too. Hope you enjoyed wacking the 100 yrd chicken with the 30-06 HC.
If you come back Uncle Barrett will let you try out SAR 180.(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/09/21/qeguneja.jpg)

Aloha Gents,
Just back from overseas & planning on hitting the range, finally!
Quick questions, is the range accessible with all the recent/ongoing road work around Koko Head???
TIA & Mahalo!

i wonder if its open this weekend bc of the storm coming.
the mayor was going to wait until today to make announcements re: parks closures
Due to the expected arrival of Tropical Storm Ana and in the interest of public safety, the Department of Parks and Recreation
has decided to close down all campgrounds this weekend (October 17, 2014 – October 22, 2014).
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Refund checks will be issued and mailed to the permittee at the
address listed on the permit within the next 90 days.
For additional information, please call 768-2267.
Steady rain in town.

Any members flinging lead today?...
Hope to see and join you.
Let you shoot 6.5, 375 & 416.
Wow couldn't believe how empty & slow. Guess

Off to vote. Next week Tuesday range is open and on holiday schedule 8am to 4pm.
Aloha! :shaka:
...Do you know what the hours are on Vets Day? I am going to be on the pistol range. Thanks!!!
I went last Wednesday and I was the only person there in the afternoon. Nice!
As you said, Vet. Day is open. I am planning to go to test and practice pistol side.
Also practicing rifle for upcoming club fun match. Not sure exactly when tho....
Fellow hobbyist are welcomed to come and clock pistol ammo.

what time are you going to be on pistol side?
...I'll probably be there early like 8am until 10 or 11. So I hope to see you there.
8 to 4
I might be there by 10am
how many benches are there on the silhouette side?I never had anyone mention a time limit to me.
i kno it costs $5 and only on weekends, but can i literally stay at silhouette side from 8am-4pm? is there a time limit?

...
On Veteran's day.., my friend said he was going around 10.
So I'll effort that. My son needs some trigger time too.
And if I'm lucky, my other son can drop in too.
Unfortunately that would mean dad has to fire up the dillon.
How about you? Need some trigger time?
wanted to try out the chrono if you are bringing one================
but i just checked this weekend, and i didn't label my loads, and i have forgotten since we loaded 2 weeks and 6 weeks ago
so maybe i won't go
:o
================
oh my....
did not label them???
You need a time out. Now go sit in the corner facing the wall.
i thought i would remember...your reloading privileges have been revoked and you need to sell us your reloading supplies that you've been hoarding!! ;D
rookie move, huh?

Remember anything yet???
Bring'em out tomorrow anyway.
I know a really, really fast way to get those pesky bullets out of the shell.
i am "relatively" certain i know what the load is
Famous last words...........Lol!  ...
So how'd it go? Was there a good load in there, which you forgot to write down, so now you gotta do over? I've done the same... no worries! Lol ;)
OF was very patient with this noob...
mahalo, OF
the load i thought was on the lighter end of the range was on the higher end of the range
and the load that i thought was on the higher end of the range was barely cycling
all in all, a good lesson learned
next time, i'll get the jedi mind trick lessons
:worship:
...
My pleasure mac.
Though we did not bench your ammo, judging from your velocity readings you got the potential for some really straight shootin' ammo.
As for your marksmanship....
Well, let's just say a little coaching is needed there.
We should do that.
yeah, that's why i was asking you for help a couple of months ago...
sorry i had to run
costco run, yardwork and lunch took priority
thanks for all you do
:shaka:
...
Just from observing the few shots you took yesterday, I got a pretty good idea what kind of help you need.
Let me know when you got some time. Actual coaching time is just a few hours.
After that you would need to practice regularly for a few months expending approx. 1 or 2m rounds.
Then you should be good to go.
i would try to blame it on an unfamiliar gun...
and the fact that i only shoot 9mm
but you would see right through that excuse
thanks for the offer
i will take you up on it some time
:shaka:
very few people today at the pistol range side. HPD even have their helicopter landed here
Heading to the pistol shed, then probably will migrate over to silhouette. Have to make sure my six guns are sighted in for an upcoming bowling pin match!=================
goin silhouette tomorrow, late afternoon, you think the roads will be cherry by 1:30pm considering the honolulu marathon?...

Thursday June 11 is King Kamehameha Day. It is a City/County holiday. It is also a holiday for the Hawaii General Contractor's Association and its members. I get the day off and I will be at the pistol range from 8am until 10 or 11.

What sort of problems were you having?
Main one is that the large projectiles are causing problems in the neck area...
Result is feeding issues and stuck rounds
The solution may be a a ball sizer (or something like that, I'm new at this and sometimes they tell me things wrong by just to mess with me, especially when they can use terms like "ball sizer

Hope it's not too crowded tomorrow!
Anyone know if/will the rifle side be packed due to the shooting fair today?

range was pretty empty today at around 2. i thought would have had really long lines but it wasn't bad at all. rifle side had a lot of benches open and so did silhouette side. also had lots of parking spaces. SSF had 3-4benches on rifle side, bolt action & semi auto 556, AR10 and something else. these were cash only not scripts. also had 3-4 benches on silhouette side for SSF shooting .22s.funny, they took scrips when i went on saturday.
Will the range be open from 8 am to 4 pm this Friday? ??? ??? ???Yes. Will be there from 8am until 10 or 11am. Pistol side.

Have a great 4th July weekend!
Aloha!

You shooting big bore at koko head? whats the biggest you can shoot? i read online 50 bmg is a no go. And i heard people claim that 338 lapua is banned also.MB,
::)MB,
You ain't a Lurker Lol....
Don't shoot my 50 BMG @ Kokohead of course. Shoot my 338 Lapua & win mag and other bigger stuff all the time. Bring some steel and let's play.
Going probably shoot my 416, 338 & favorite 375 tomorrow. What are you bringing?
Ive only shot once at koko head with a friend at the silhouette side. Things are alot different there vs the range on maui. I plan on shooting more often in oahu but weekdays. Only have pistols in oahu. Havent brang any of my rifles down. i sold my 338 and 300 win mag. Only thing i got big now is my 50 but cant shoot that there and i dont enjoy lugging that thing around. its more of a pain then anything. At what distances can you shoot steel at? i was thinking of bringing my ai aw in 308 down. trying to get my gf into shooting more. shes deathly afraid of the 50. idk why. think its more the sound shes afraid of.Live @ the silhouette range since rifle range is limited to 100 yards. Still gotta go fling lead on rifle side. Love to hunt Maui, Up country or Kaupo side. Only hunted with my M82 on Lanai & Big Island for Mouflon. Sooo Good fun...

Were you shooting a 308 pistol near the black powder side?
Yup that's me.... boy did HHAA do a great job yesterday and had a wonderful shoot. Had fun shooting my safari rifles and my Lone Eagle 308 pistol. Then went and shot steel @ silhouette. Buddy Dennis steel target needs to be replaced... got too beat up on a previous shoot. Ordering some new steel, ear cracked off beside being drilled and pitted. 338 and 300 mags really punish plates, don't shoot Barnes either will make plated pukas.. ouch... lol :geekdanc:==============
What were you shooting? Ruger #1 ? Was that your family too?
See yah...

I also used to work with the mother of the reporter girl.
Geez I'm gettin' old.
hence the name oldfart?...
well, it finally happened.Or... the bird flew into the path of the bullet. Was there any comment from the RO?
I finally saw someone shoot one of those birds.

If it was a one of those tall white egrets, then no loss. They are an invasive species.
There is talk of an eradication program for those things.
it was, but the RO said it was a protected species...It is a protected species here in Hawaii. Even though there are billions of them all over the world. One RO who is no longer with us told me the fine for killing one is $500. He told me that at the same time my wife was still shooting the corpse of one she had killed about 30 seconds before. The bird had walked behind her target and she didn't even know it. She kept shooting her target and the corpse kept jumping with each shot.

going to the rifle side hope its not too pack ...
Pistol side now and it is pouring....
titans going down! i like to support local braddahs but not against winston :shaka:
Ummmmm.....:( real dusty over here :(
Benches full by 1145, waiting list from start until we left at ~1300-1330....
Full house today; not sure what it's like now.
Range busy this morning? It was but it is clearing out now.
Cattle Egrets are covered under the Migratory Bird Act. Killing one can carry a fine of up to $10,000 and include prison time. They are an invasive species, and there are permits issued for control work for public safety by Federal agencies.
Furthermore, because it is covered under federal law as a protected species, any killing whether intentional or accidental could trigger range closure for census to ensure human activity is not impeding on a natural habitat or nesting of these birds. That means the range shuts down completely for about 1-2 months while U.S. Fish & Wildlife conducts a census in conjunction with DLNR.
So heed the warnings of the RSOs. We want to avoid any additional negative PR in regards to the range or any shooting sports. Also, in regards to safety, part of the practice is knowing what is beyond the target. I'm amazed how many people become complacent to this and other safety rules.
Practicing pistol Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.
Look for the strange shooting bag. Stop by and introduce yourself.
I want to go Veteran's Day but I am unsure if I can depends on appointment schedule.
I didn't see my second favorite dentist...
I didn't see my second favorite dentist...must have been hard at work.
They built houses?DIdn't you know? I live at the range.
Will be at the pistol range tomorrow at 8am. Usually at space 13,14 or 15. Stop on by and talk story....
...Hey OF,
Monday is usually my day off, but I gotta work. :(
But I get o.t. :D
Send a few rounds downrange for me.
Rifle side on waiting list. At bench 94 come by and say HI.

Me and the gf planning to hit KHSC-silhouette side on Pro Bowl Sunday. Any tips for first timers (we've got .22s)? Scopes recommended?Scopes are highly recommended. $5 is the range fee.
Me and the gf planning to hit KHSC-silhouette side on Pro Bowl Sunday. Any tips for first timers (we've got .22s)? Scopes recommended?I'm older and have a hard time getting my iron sights on those small targets even at 50 yards. I put scopes or red dots on almost everything I take to the metal side. However, it is fun and a huge challenge to try and hit small things out to 75 and 100 yards using iron sights. So I bring a varied mix of guns with and without a scope/red dot. I always take a big revolver out there. If you have one it is a lot of fun to really ring those plates. Bring extra .22 ammo. I always bring about 500 rounds and usually shoot around 400+. Go out and set up during the cold line. Have lots of fun!

Traffic is all FUBAR'd coming from my side of the island. :grrr: :( because of the ProBowl. Thought I'd hit the range today as I figure most shooters will be WATCHING the ProBowl but I guess most people are DRIVING to the game! >:(
Traffic is crazy. They should have opened the zipper lane for everyone else!!
kokohead yesterday was the busiest I've seen it in a whilelast weekend was busy too.seeing a lot of hunters sighting in.Its deer season boys!!
parking was full
waiting list at rifle side for 45 minutes at 10:00am
still had waiting list into the afternoon when i left after 2:00
but was sunny, wind was minimal, a good day. :shaka:
yesterday was busy againI was thinking the same thing. People needed to get their fix in or work on whatever they needed to work on. When I was talking story with my friend on the rifle side, I saw lots of people shooting bolt guns. Maybe sighting in or other prep for hunts later this year.
went silhouette side
after i got there in afternoon had a waiting list
could have been that the day before was closed due to the suspicious package
I was at the bullseye pistol range for the first relay. They had an NRA match that took up the whole left side, so the right side was packed. That was actually a good thing about the pistol match as they had more frequent target changes so that they could score their targets.
The rifle range was even more packed. I heard that the waiting list was something like 2 hours! When I left at around 10 am, the list was about 5 deep. The parking lot was pretty packed though.

Maybe both...I dunno
Tomorrow? (HRA is on Sunday)...
Is the range busy this Easter Sunday? Silhouette side open?
Will be at bench 94 on the rifle side tomorrow (Sunday) morning.===
===You got it OF!!!
bring that sample of pinaud clubman?
As I understand it, if I wear it I'll have to beat the girls off with a stick
Headed that way(KHSC) in a little bit...
Spent a few hours and many rounds sighting in my two new hand guns on the pistol range. Thanks to an old friend for helping me out since I'm new to this. I hadn't seen him and/or his wife for 16 years when we last worked together and come to find out they are regulars there on the weekend. Very pleasant surprise. Range itself was not anywhere near capacity so there was plenty of room for a new guy like me. Had a great time and put a hundred rounds through my 1911 and 160 rounds through my revolver. ROs didn't have to yell at me at all! :D
BTW, left at 11:45 and traffic was stopped up from Hawaii Kai to the freeway. Took an extra hour to get home...
Any weather report for the east side this morning? I was thinking about heading to the rifle range

think there was an accident. cops and ambulance. supposed shrapnel from 9mm ar.
http://m.hawaiinewsnow.com/hawaiinewsnow/db/330510/content/zFNqjm23It is one of my best friends. They rushed him to Queens. The shrapnel entered up into his abdomen and hit kidney. I understand it was an arterial wound as well. I heard he was bleeding pretty badly.
people on FB are saying story is not true

Oh no
Another sick torture from that sadistic mind.
Good to see and talk to Heavies and Inspector today :shaka:It was great talking to you as well. I looked for Heavies but I didn't see him.
Even if my 22 shooting wasn't any good.
Still a good day. Better than going to work.
I think you were in the booth right next to me, or pretty close. I think I was in stall 90.

It was a little more crowded than I expected, but I was able to find a bench as soon as I got there. I don't go on the weekends that often, but the last time I went on a Sunday about a month ago, the rifle side was only about half full at around 1 pm. I guess with it being the start of summer, people have more free time. Good to see people enjoying the range.

I'll be over on the silly side tomorrow (Sunday) morning. I am going to be testing out my Glock with the new springs I replaced at the Glock class last weekend. I am hoping I cured my occasional light strike problem with hard military primers. I'll also be testing out some new loads in 45 Colt. And of course I'll be shooting a whole lotta .22's.Ill come by.need to put rounds thru my 1911.then over to the rifle side to try the .22 fun shoot :shaka:

Going to White Shark in Hilo tomorrow. Gotta get my range time in before they close for good. Their last day is supposed to be ending of August. :(How was the public range there coming along? Haven't heard much about it lately.
Gonna be rough not having any range again... no place to shoot and train (legally) on Big Island. :grrr:
So any Big Island peeps here... get your range time in while you can!

Is the range going to be open on monday?
No, not a State Holiday.
Ok thanxNot a C&C of Honolulu Holiday
Had a good practice day at the Puuloa range today where we did block time at the 200, 300, 500, and 600 yd lines with some new shooters and bunch from 2ahawaii. Was a sunny but cool breezy day. The 10-20mph crosswinds were playing havoc with our bullets at the 600 so it was good practice with wind calls. I finally got some good 30-06 rounds loaded last night and they worked great today, though one bullet went about a foot low at the 500. Ready for F-Class next month.I Had some fun in that wind today! Crazy gusts.
Is the range open this Tuesday, November 8th, since it is a state holiday?(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161107/0e104b0b0b31d10a8ff3da6cf1041c81.jpg)

First time at X-Ring's range today. Free range time for veterans (Thanks, X-Ring!). Great facility, clean and well lit. First rounds (other than factory test fire) through my P320, which ran perfectly and grouped really well. Overall a great Veterans Day so far! :love:Visited x-ring today at 10a and they were humming!
I got a reprieve from work today so I'll head out to the KHSC pistol range mid morning to see if I can still hit anything....

Waimanalo has several invisible stoplights - traffic slows significantly through the Nalo Nation.
Oh....you mean people stop on the main road all of a sudden and give up their right-of-way to let someone out of a driveway/side street. ::) ???
Not worth the range time today on pistol side. It's pouring and windy. Everyone's cardboard blowing off their frame.Poured rain here a little while ago

Went to the rifle side yesterday and since I have a lower slipped disc, the bench was damn uncomfortable. Anyone with back issues bring some kind of cushion or pad to sit on at KHSC?A quality 2 layer memory foam coccyx cushion should ease the discomfort. I know a lot of older or bony assed shooters that use them to relieve tailbone pressure.

you might want to try standing up more frequently tooI shoot standing a lot these days. Getting pretty good for an OF I mean an Old Inspector.
bulging/herniated disc usually don't like prolonged flexion positions such as sitting.
Don't try consuming more dairy products, you would need to drown yourself in milk and cheese to meet the RDA.Especially if you are lactose intolerant. The guys down wind from you wouldn't appreciate it.

You see my cushion is built in.  :rofl:Yeah I could use some padding in the rear, maybe sitting on that 2X8 board would feel better. Never noticed it till I started getting back pain. I just got some plain foam from CityMill. Thinking of making something portable that can fit over the 2X8 and glue or Velcro the foam to a 3/4" plywood seat. In the meantime till I get measurements, also bought this cheap foam cushion from Ross.
One of our members does bring a cushion that is about 2" thick with high density foam.
you might want to try standing up more frequently tooI normally set up my spotting scope so I can see sitting down with the eyepiece at the 3 or 9 position. Since its angled, I'll try to set up so I need to stand and look down in the eyepiece to prevent too much sitting on that board.

Why not setup your spotter like this?I'll set it up like that if I shoot prone.

Rifle side looked maybe half full. If that.

I went to practice a little pistol yesterday and there was a novice shooter there who needed a few safety tips.
So as I was explaining the house rules, I was informed by the RO that there was a recent rule change.
You don't need to remove loaded mags from the bench during cease fire any more.

Good initiative in doing a recon and asking questions. Should still have an experienced shooter with you there on your first trip. Avoids lots of scoldings.

I always take my loaded mags off the bench/table on the Pistol, Rifle or Silhouette side during a seize fire. My thoughts would be why leave your weapon and loaded mags behind for anyone to access. I feel safer taking it with me. I know m,amy leave theirs behind but I can only control what I do, not anyone else.I hear what you're saying. However, sometimes I wonder more about the ROs watching for things getting stolen as opposed to people touching firearms and shooting someone. There was a time when guns were reported getting stolen and I believe in at least a couple instances they were guns that were on the bench/counter during target changes. I haven't heard of anything like that for a while, but when I did, I wondered how the hell that happened if attentive ROs were there. If one is not supposed to even handle any firearms during the cease fire, how is one going to get away with taking one off the bench/table and walk off with it? Yes, there's some sarcasm in that, but mostly serious.

I think I shot one of your friend’s (that had the scopes to check out) rifles before. It was maybe my second or third trip to the range when I just started shooing ARs, so still quite new to Koko Head. He had a nice 22-250 with this nice trigger but had some unusual aspect about it. I think you had to click the trigger forward first. That and he had a nice Zeiss scope. Anyways, that got me headed down the road to get my own bolt gun. He was also interested in ARs, so he shot my AR as well. Somehow I always remembered that.
That's what I love about shooting with all these old guys. They are very approachable and they will encourage you to shoot what they brought. I always learn something from them. What did you think of the hand cannon? :love:There were some interesting guns being shot today for sure! That had cannon was awesome! Peaked the interest of the pyro in me.
Range is closed today, Thursday 1/25.So no toilet, no shooting... :-\
No water.
So no toilet, no shooting... :-\
There is one? I was using the bushes. Don't touch the leaves there....
...Too much lead...
No eat the chickens either
Some of them are pretty rusty. You mean like you?
You mean like you?  ...
Wish I could join you out there today. Let us know how the ammo shoots or doesn't.
...What do you use to clean your gun after using corrosive ammo? I still use Hoppe's.
Exactly
...
But I don't want to shoot too many. Corrosive.

KHSC is open on Monday and I have a day off. ...Yay.Maybe can.... You going to the pistol side?
Anybody need or want basic pistol marksmanship coaching?
Send a pm.
Maybe can.... You going to the pistol side?...
Sorry. I don't have Monday off. Disregard previous posts.Aww... Yeah me too, I may or may not have to work on Monday. If not I'll probably be on the pistol side. I need to get some things zeroed.

I’m here. How can I spot the fellows collecting testimonies?
I’ve had my eyes pealed. If you see a white guy on the pistol target side with a g17, a Frankenstein’s-1911 camo shorts and a stylish long sleeve black T-shirt hit me up. I’ll be making laps looking for the volunteers as well.
How are the roads and traffic today? All clear.
All clear.
Thanks Inspector!! Enjoy your day!!Thanks Bushido. Lots of dried mud in the roads still.
Rifle side full. Really nice weather! Here with some fellow 2a folks!...
...Nice and flat - look how close you can back your vehicle to the benches. For all the folks thinking 'whats the big deal?' - wait till you get old or have a problem with your knees.
Rifle side today at Ukumehame range, Maui.

Was an awesome morning in the range. Thank you to the black powder guys for their hospitality. Good thing I didn’t miss with “$5 per miss” gun. ;DIt was nice shooting with you today as well. You are always welcome to shoot with us anytime.

Just checking, the range is on Holiday hours on Memorial Day right? Sorry for the dumb question.0800-1600
0800-1600Mahalo! :shaka:
Anybody know why there were police and ambulance there on Sunday. I was at the trap range and looked across, the ambulance was by the silhouette side and three cop cars between rifle and pistol.I was told that the woman had been hit by something. Don't know what? She had a very minor gash/cut on her temple area. Supposedly went to emergency to be checked out to make sure something was not embedded.
went to rifle side over the weekend. was there from 0800-1000
was shooting my bolt action and AR, shooting only 55 grain .223 that day
when I pick up my targets at the end, I see theres a crack in the left side wood frame and theres a bullet head stuck right in the middle
first I think, that's strange it didn't go all the way through and also I'm surprised I hit the frame bc my optics are all sighted in already
after I go home, I take out the bullet head and weigh it. it weighs 120.8 grains. so its not from my rifles
it was probably from the guy on the right of me shooting an older rifle with iron sights who seemed to be sighting it in that day
he missed his target by over 10 feet! buggah owes me a target frame too!!! >:(
Surprised it didn't go through the frame. Probably hit the dirt and ricochet.

Range open on 4th of July 8-4. Might go pistol side.==========
==========
I would love to go, but the kids are coming over to bbq at lunchtime.
Too bad I don't have a backyard shooting range.
That would be so awesome to have the kids over, BBQ and shoot guns at the same time.
Is the trap range open tomorrow Sat July 13? I heard 2nd Saturday of the month is open to none members. Not to sure if the trap range is open but the skeet range is. It’s going to be the last weekend probably for the rest of the year that it will be open being that the club house is going to get some much improved maintenance to it. I will be running it so come down if you can and enjoy!
Went to the bullseye pistol range on Sunday to practice revolver and one hand shooting which I'm improving on.
There was a couple shooting next to me. I notice all of the guys shots were going low into the 25 yard berm and lower quarter of his cardboard while the top 3/4s was pristine. Find out he just completed the class. I give him some tips and show him how to do the ball and dummy drill, and the shoot one dryfire one drills. Told him to try that for 50 rounds and he should shoot much better. He didn't and kept digging holes in the berm.
Can lead a horse to water but can't make em drink.
Maybe they were aiming at the berm?
Or horse not thirsty niao but laters?

Will be shooting and sighting in my new red dot on the S&W 627 today. Probably 12-1pm. Stop by if you are going to be there.Wish I could! Playing hookie on a Friday! Hopefully will be able to make it back out there for Thanksgiving.

Roger!
I’m thinking I’ll try to bring my dad’s 1903 and M1 Garand out for some fresh air.
For ammo for the Garand, know of any local shops that regularly stock ammo safe for M1 Garands? I haven’t looked into it for a while, but I recall needing ammo that is around 10-20% less velocity than common commercial ammo. I guess I could try to find CMP ammo, but I’d rather try to find locally. If available.
Planning to go rifle range on Sunday. How early do you guys need to go to make sure you have a bench when the range opens?
I haven’t been to rifle range since we could shoot at the gong up the mountain... back then I used to be there at 6:30 to grab a bench. Is it still like that?
Thanks

Now off to play hookie with Inspector at KHSC.It was nice seeing you and Oldfart today!
It was nice seeing you and Oldfart today!...
It might be the last time we see OF before he is taken away by the IRS.
It was also nice to be back at the range since my surgery almost 2 months ago. I need a lot of practice.
anybody going khsc today?Wish I could. I’m back to work now which means Saturday is chore and honey do day.
I might go.
I'm going to exercise my right to vote and shoot today.I’m off today so I need to catch up on reloading. You are welcome to come by and talk story if you like. :shaka:
Anybody else going?

===========How did you know? I figured you are cheap labor.
I just finished running off a couple hundred 45acp to shoot today. Talk about procrastination!
I'm heading across the street to vote now. I'll be hitting the range with a coworker about 11am.
I ain't going over to your house while you reload because you don't do progressive.
That means you'll have me doing some menial chore like sorting or priming your brass.
I'm no fool!

I would have bought you lunch and a beer. :P :P :P
Have a great time at the range today. :shaka: :shaka: :shaka:
===============My fav loads for the 250 gr boolits is 4.5-5.5 grains of Trail Boss and 5.0-5.5 grains of Titegroup.
Great day yesterday! no traffic, no crowd at the range.
I think there was only 3 shooters, and most of the time we were just lip flapping.
I shot my turkey.....also left some extra turkeys on the bulletin board.
Dustoff dropped by my house later...we going to load some mild 45 colt for his new gun.
You have a favorite load for 250 gr bullets? He got some Berrys and Blues.
I'm planning to go again on Monday :shaka:
I ain't coming to your house unless you promise to have loose women.

The loose women were here. We partied and I was telling them about you. They seemed interested until I told them your name. They said it would be okay if I had a paper bag. Not sure what they meant by that?
...I like use Titegroup in the 45 Colt because I found that it ignites no matter where it is in the case without having to use a filler and it is still consistent. I always worry about small powder charges in large cases.
Tittiegroup, loose women and a paper bag.....sounds like a winner!
2 days ago at kokohead they were setting up for filming

No idea how long they'll be there
Magnum was filming on my block a few weeks ago, started as 1 day, ended up 4 days

Do they still allow holster draw?
Yup. But ask first because a RO wants to watch you dry fire a few times just to make sure you're safe. I was gonna do IWB.Roger that. Thanks. 👍🤙
Saw an interesting "gun" at the range yesterday.Lol.
An early version of the phased plasma series. ..Included the original holster.
Being less efficient than it's modern versions, it required a stationary power source consuming about 400 watts.

Haven’t been KHSC long time. If I arrive at about 0730, is that early enough to get a bench or is it crowded on Sundays? To answer my own question. 0704 all tables are full.
To answer my own question. 0704 all tables are full.
Will be going today. I have some highpower books. They are Jim Owens books on leather sling and shooting positions, reading the wind, and sight alignment. . I had offered them up to the local HP club with no response so the books will be at the range for free. :shaka:....
Happy Labor Day!!! Rifle side all lanes taken. Pistol side half full....
My co-worker wants to plink on the silhouette side on Sunday.
I rarely go on that side.
What is a good time to go there? 11?, 12?, 1pm???
I usually go at 1 and it's empty. Been there at 10 once and had waiting list.:geekdanc:
are they open today?

He got 19 out of 20 in a 10" group is a pass.

Good sized crowd at the pistol range. Maybe half full with folks shooting on the left side area that usually is roped off during the week.
Nice cool day, but with a decently strong quartering wind at times.

and load some ammo, I'm going to go see what the pistol range looks like today.Whatcha gonna load? I know it’s gonna be 45ACP. Just wanna know what boolit and powder you are using?
I better take instructions to tell me which way the bullet goes. With your reloads? I don’t blame you!

ok smarty pants
remind me again....it was the pointy side towards the target, right???

Nice wad cutters there!....
I just finished loading some 148gr WC for 38SPL. Trying to keep them around 750fps. I have some loaded with Trail Boss as well. Have not tried them yet.
I have a CCW class on Saturday and I need to shoot 50 rounds with my SD pistol. I guess to prove I can hit something? It’s my Model 10 DAO. I loaded some 158gr SWC with Titegroup that hits to POA.
....They not only let me carry a gun, I get to keep a bullet in it, too!
Omg, they going to let you carry a gun?
I thought you had to be a politician or celebrity, or at the very least, good looking.
BTW, those aren't wadcutters. I just forgot which side points to the target....
Getting old ya know
They not only let me carry a gun, I get to keep a bullet in it, too!...
No wonder you don’t know where to aim. You loaded up some confused cartridges. They don’t know which end is which.
...
I showed the bacķwards bullet to the RO and he told me to go home and never come back.
But later he said I could still shoot because I'm a nice guy.
...
I got there around 2pm and it was very crowded.
To promote social distancing, only even number lanes are used.
The RO told me they counted 11 instructors holding safety affidavit classes yesterday.
I saw Macsak there too. I was shooting next to a great instructor with about 6 students.
He was very knowledgeable and competent and I enjoyed chatting with his students while they were waiting for their turn.
I discovered that wearing a face mask makes my shooting glasses get all fogged up.
The new range rules chases everybody out of the place at 4:15 and the chain is locked thereafter.
Overall, it was great to pull a trigger again. The weather was perfect. It felt good to see new people learning about safe gun ownership.

nice, neat holes with those Wadcutters

To clarify, that partcular target was shot with the pointy side towards the target.
not the backwards bullets.
I guess you were trying not to hit that "X" thing in the middle....
Anybody know if you still need to make online rsvp for KHSC? I couldn't find any updated info? Trying to plan a range day with my sons, any info/advice appreciated. :shaka:
first come, first serve, no reservations needed...
Went today oct 17. Steel side was closed. Anybody know when they open?
closed indefinitely
Probably go Sunday afternoon to see if I still remember which way the head goes. The head goes in. Gee OF I have to remind you of everything!
How busy is the rifle side at Koko Head these days? Haven't gone to the range in ages but looking to get back into it. I remember awhile back friends saying how packed it would get, having to go early, etc.
Went today nov 1. Pistol target side. Came early 730 was able to get a spot. by the time the line went hot at 8am had waiting list. Was a good day. Tested out some 38 special reloads my cousin did (first time reloader) out of 100 4 was a no go. Looked like primer was seated too deep. Light firing pin dimples. There were more that looked deep seated but went off in single action on second go round. Was great to finally get out and shoot. My cuz was excited too because he got to fire his new to him dan wesson revolvers along with my model 19 all 6" barrels. I did notice that factory 357 is a bit more snappy in the k frame then my old man n frame 28 highway patrolman. My experience with primers being set too deep is extremely rare. It is is usually caused by using a pocket reamer that is not the type that keeps one from going too deep and being used too much. I have one of these and it is over 40 years old. Most pocket reamers are set so you cannot go too deep. I assume the primers used are of the correct size. If it turns out the primers are set too deep then I would discard the brass. There are also very hard primers such that a pistol may have difficulty striking it hard enough to set it off. For instance, someone may have used a small rifle primer that is designed for use in an AR type rifle that has a floating firing pin. Also, some European and Russian primers are known to be more difficult to set off. These primers use a much harder cup and some pistols may have a hard time properly striking them. One more thing I have noticed and that is Winchester primers have been less reliable than other brands. Winchester usually uses brass cups instead of the silver colored cups. I bought a case of them once and probably 5 or 6 out of every 1,000 never ignited even when hit well.
Had a mishap with someone else's reloads though. Looks like it was a missed\low charge and the primer was enough to push the bullet into the barrel just enough to lock the revolver up. Lucky it happened in the dw, after looking at it was decided to remove the barrel since it's easy in the dw as opposed to the Smith. After he got the round out the bullet was still partially seated in the case. Really lucky that this happened on the last round and that the bullet didn't go partway into barrel letting a next round to chamber.
We took it as learning experience
And we will most likely be at it again next week. I have 4 revolvers thats getting out of jail on thu :geekdanc: 3 smiths and 1 ruger.
:shaka:

There is one other thing to consider and is something I have found to happen more often in revolvers, and that is a weak hammer spring or the hammer spring tension is set too soft. This happens sometimes when a revolver has had a trigger job and the trigger is set too light. It could be a light spring was put in or too light of a setting. With SA/DA revolvers, the hammer does not come back as far when shot in DA mode. If you cock the hammer and use it in SA mode it brings the hammer back farther allowing more energy to hit the primer than in DA mode. If the hammer spring is too weak, or the hammer spring tension is set too soft you will see light hammer strikes more often in DA mode as in SA mode. And that can happen in SA mode as well but is less likely. The S&W revolvers have a hammer spring tension screw that can and does back out during shooting and can cause light hammer strikes. It will be more noticeable in DA mode first and then you might start seeing it in SA mode. I have had it happen to almost every one of my S&W revolvers. It is an easy fix. Remove the grips and screw the tension set screw back in.
Overall I would say that primers being set too low is something to check but it is more likely one of the other things I mentioned. I would look at those things first such as harder primers and/or weaker hammer springs. It could also be a combination of these things as well.
One thing I learned to do during reloading is to look into every single case before setting the bullet. Make sure you have powder in there and that the powder is at the same level as all the other cases. This helps prevent squib loads.
I hope this helps!
Is Koko Head gonna be open Veterans Day?...
...
It should be open 8 to 4.
But if you going early morning, I would call the range to confirm.
It's usually open 12 to 4 on Wednesday.
Is Koko Head gonna be open Veterans Day?
Will the silhouette side be open this weekend? Just wanted to double check after reading the range website.
I went to the range on Tuesday using some new boolits someone gave me. BIG mistake. They were for 38 Special but I thought I would use them in my 357 Magnum. After loading 15 I did all the usual checks of OAL and dropping them into the cylinder and everything was VERY close to being too long but I felt comfortable with them. I loaded 200. On the 21st round my revolver jammed. I couldn’t open the cylinder either. After looking I found a round that was a blonde hair too long. I used a range rod and a hammer to tap the boolit in a tad so I could open the cylinder. After measuring it, I went through and there were a few more. The boolit itself was a lot longer from the crimp groove to the tip than my usual boolits. So I took apart 179 and reloaded them with my usual preferred boolit.
Went back to the range today with a couple of new loads using 4.2 grains of trail Boss for a light target load and 5.5 grains of Unique for a low end magnum load. Both loads were under a 158gr LSWC powder coated boolit.
Both targets are 40 rounds each at 30’ two handed firing single action slow fire. The first target are the target loads and second target are the magnum loads.
Have they been locking the gate overnight recently? If yes, around what time have they been opening the gate?
last week I got there a little before 0700 and was openCool. I like to get there early, setup and relax a bit before making noise. ;D

i'm going to try and go Christmas eve, not sure i'm going to make it bc might have last minute gifts to round up but if I can make it i'll go pistol side shoot the 1911 but conserve ammo. 50-75 rounds at most. maybe i'll take the 22 pistol too that way I can make it rain lead down range :geekdanc:I went to the range today. I brought my Glock 17 with the Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit. I fired 240 rounds today. All rapid fire. I am getting better at this. Practicing with my Glock 17 actually helps when I fire 9mm in rapid fire. It also helps since I have put better sights on it. I’m still not as fast as I would like but I think I am as accurate as I should be. So now it is just more practice and time to better my times.

I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to break the law! What do you want to not turn me in? Money? Women? Pakalolo? Beer? Ammo?...
...Turn me in!
Send me one of those Arizona girls that shoots machine guns in short shorts.
Range is supposed to be open on MLK day, Monday the 18th.
went on MLK day around 1130. I was the only one there. Winds and rain were almost tropical storm strong. at one point my target stand blew apart from the wind. Packed up and went home after about 45 mins.

Did they make you wait for the scheduled cease fire before collecting your target?
Going on Friday 2/5/20, haven't been in a while, just checking to see if the hours are the same and if the silhouette is still open normal hours on Fridays? Thanks :shaka:
http://khsc.info/ --> is this still accurate?

silhouette only open Saturday and sundays
Thanks Stang
do masks have to be worn at all times? or can we remove while at the bench?
.
Weather wasn't that bad, someone was posting fliers and talking about upcoming laws. That was good.
My new JP 22lr's scope I must have mounted it wrong cause it was always far to the right no matter what I did.
kinda like when your handgun kept on shooting low left...
i havent been to the range in over a year since covid started. Are the hours still the same as before? I'm guessing theres new covid rules? Social distancing and face mask required? Can we still just show up and get an open table?

Planning to be at the range today lol============

After I finish prepping some foods for Father's Day I'll probably go in the afternoon.
I am blessed to have 4 wonderful children who will come to my house to celebrate dad's day.
Even my genetically imperfect daughter will be there. Perhaps she will create a dessert like this one that she made last year.
I'm sure glad we decided not to abort that defective baby 20 years ago.

Anyone know if the silhouette side will be open this Sunday the 4th of July? Mahalo :shaka:The KHSC website says the silhouette range is closed on holidays. Since the actual holiday is Monday the 5th, I'd guess the silhouette side is open Sunday. You could call and ask Saturday or Sunday if you want to be sure. (808) 768-6720 is the number for the range.

Anyone know if I can bring a pistol caliber carbine in 9mm to the pistol range?Yes you can.
Anyone know if I can bring a pistol caliber carbine in 9mm to the pistol range?
Suggest you call the range to verify. I was told no 9mm carbines on the pistol range…must be shot on the rifle.
i seen people shooting PCC at pistol. but best to ask. might have been a good buddy of the RSO shooting at pistol.
Planning to continue testing some 9mm tomorrow afternoon.....
When I go to the pistol side I see the same guy come and shoot his .22 rifle. I always wondered if they would let someone shoot a .357 or .44 magnum lever gun at pistol.....
Went to kokohead today. RO said PCC not allowed on pistol side. Need to shoot on rifle side only for now. They hope to one day allow 9mm PCC and 22 rifle back on pistol side.At one time allowed within the last couple of years (even the PS90), but I guess not anymore.
I heard that the range is closed today due to a water main break.============
Some people go very early to KHSC to secure spots. They must have been very disappointed after traveling all the way there.Even more when they had to turn around and get stuck in the traffic coming out of Hawaii Kai.
Perfect shot. That was my rifle but they are use to a M4 and a SAW 249. They're probably better shots than myself.
Nice. And with your sons. Sure you folks had fun.
Who shot it ? Junior or you ? :shaka:
Today was a good day. I got to reconnect with Teichi, Ren, and Aletheuo. What was your velocties?
Didn't get to practice much as I spent too much time lip-flapping with the guys.

===========Thanks, getting ready to do pistol ammo next. I have change that trigger spring first. Appreciate all the help.
actually, they were about the same as what I got 5 years ago.
see the thread in the reloading section SPEER GOLD DOT 2021
Tested 270 win reloads with my sons.Looks good. What were those two shots to the right? Were they on their own? Or with the shot to the bottom right?

Looks good. What were those two shots to the right? Were they on their own? Or with the shot to the bottom right? Was testing what rifle would do shooting at an animal. Barrel hot no cooling period. Left and center were my sons on the rifle. Center I believe he was walking it in by adjusting his point of aim. The other was my youngest, if 32 could be consider young. He hasn't been out shooting in 14 years. Other test groups were under splatter target. They wanted to compete with who was buying lunch. Yes he was 18 when he deployed to Iraq.
The group at the center of the target looks quite good.
Soooo....who bought lunch?IOU
Haven't been to the range since before covid, how crowded is it on the rifle side on weekdays? I plan to go this Friday since I have a rare weekday off. Thanks.
i would be surprised if it was crowded
Does anybody know for sure whether or not the KHSC range is open on Juneteenth?Wait! It’s a holiday? Wth? Is my work trying to rip me off of OT pay? I work on Monday..
Monday 6/20/22
website is not current, and nobody answers any of the phone numbers I got for the range.
If somebody is at the range, please ask the RO out there. That would be the best info.
I wanna go on Monday if it's open.

Going today and most weekends, my skill level dropped since the covid shutdown. One day got to come shoot with you.
I need the practice. The hands are shaky.
Will help anybody with marksmanship coaching if you need.

My goal is to go every week, especially since I retired and would rather run away to the range than paint the house. LOL
This past weekend I went on Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday was great because I ended up helping a cute newbie girl with her SW Shield and Glock 34...Not joking...she bought them.
I think I'm in love.
Too bad she had a boyfriend.
we broke upsorry...I gave her my non-business card.
I went Sat. 12/2 first shooting session at 8:00 am.========
Getting better.
I noted it takes me 1 hr. and 20 minutes (approx) round trip to and from the range. The shooting session is 1 hr. and 30 minutes.
========
I went in about 1:30.
Not many people there. Towards the end, only had 2 guys.
The RSO's there are pushing me to join them as an RSO.
I'm thinking about it. But like you said, it's about a 1-1/2 hour round trip.
That would be great, doing something you love to do part time since your recent retirement. Although I do wonder how you and the other RSO's will get shooting time?...
edited to add: And yeah, the commute is the bummer part.
practice with my ccw pistol. Sig P365sheesh, did you load some 9mm with h1000? :D

just factory ammo :shaka:
+P ammo? If so might want to go with standard load. Less flash, less recoil, faster followup shots.
You got good recoil management with that small gun.

There are certain ammo that work better in short barreled carry pieces. Personally I use 147 gr off the tests from what I’ve watched from the shootingthebull410 series. He’s pretty thorough in his testing. And the results look pretty good.....
I’ve also made training ammo with 147 coated cast projectiles that mimic velocity and recoil, so I could practice at a lesser cost.

I haven't been to the range since they implemented the reservation system....
If I wanted to go to the pistol or rifle range tomorrow afternoon, do I need to make get a reservation or can I just walk in?
I live a long, long, way from KHSC.
As far as I'm concerned I will continue to make reservations due to this fact.
I don't really like the reservation system personally. I just don't want to drive all the way there to find out I can't shoot....
I wish they would bring back the weekdays.
went pistol side today to meet up with ambubadger
he was there with fishnshoot
also saw dwayne formerly of danger close tactical
JL808, son, and their group was there too
and then oldfart showed up...
This morning 0800 had more than a few empty spots at pistol side. Many stay to the next time slot at 0920
I going tomorrow too. Gotta burn more ammo :geekdanc:
what did you shoot?

Yes but first stand holder I tried was too tight for my YG wood frame so I had to use the next one over.
Reserved a lane at Kokohead for this weekend. Anybody know the best way to shoot a Garand with the “5 rounds at a time” rule? I was thinking just putting the en bloc in and ejecting 3 rounds. Not sure if the RSOs frown on that or anything.

Before they used to look past that rule for the Garand. As long as you’re not rapid firing. Not sure how it is now.

Oh look who was there today!
Our favorite madaf..
They had to shut down the range today to rescue someone. I guess they were afraid of someone with a 50 cal might take a shot at the helicopter.
I also saw zip out there shooting.
They sent an officer down to shut down the range due to the rescue. I wonder how much it cost the heli to fly? It took awhile. Was windy. Were you on rifle side? :shaka:...
for those that have the intestinal fortitude to "go train" and discuss the finer mechanics of an M4 and VCOG - headed to the east side range today...I was there by the black powder guys all day.
HFD helicopter has been searching the Kaiwi Coast all morning, someone's missing. Range has been stopped off and on.
what event is this?
Went to the bay this weekend. Haven't shot for 2 years, except for the CCW quals (VP9 and Shield)....
Got to shoot the 1911 and I missed it as my range time with her was limited since I purchased her.
...
Guns are like children. If you neglect them, some government agency will come and take them away.
And like the children, given to foster people (LE?) who end up neglecting them anyway. Like the KPD Chief that likes to leave his firearm in the bathroom after he takes a shiite.
Or the HPD officer that left his rifle unattended.
Or the HPD officer that got his "equipment" stolen. Translation: firearm.
Yep if or when taken away, our firearms are in good hands.
Sounds like PD should also have a places to keep law. If your place of business has a restroom that's outside of your office. Is this restroom still your place of business?
Yeah makes sense now. They were searching land and sea....

They found the guy. ...SA reports

How easy is it to show up without a reservation and get a slot? I forgot to make a reservation but wanted to sight in my new glock and take my kid shooting.....
Good to see Oldfart today, pistol side 🤙🤙==========
Thank you for helping my friend and his son with their shooting. You are a great teacher 👍
He never recognize me at first bc I dropped some weight. Now a lean, mean, magnum machine!
But I had to tap out early today bc my new model 29 and some Magtech ammo had some serious recoil. Hammer cut my hand so I called it a day after the blood started. That's ok. I'll live. Play with fire, get burned.
good to see oldfart again yesterday :shaka:
shot my model 29 again with a Hogue grip this time to help with the felt recoil with these hot loads. this time was not as hot, hot loads, but still pretty hot! :geekdanc:

Nice revolver! Maybe I should get me a pair of Hogue grips.
Last time I was shooting old factory loads that I had for years. Hot Winchester loads. I cut the web of my palm from the recoil. Oweeee. The wooden factory grips that come with the 29 is nice and all but junk.
The Stangzilla pistol 101 class will cover basic safety, stance, grip, and trigger squeeze. That should be plenty to digest for 1 day
After that, the Stangzilla revolver 101 class 🤠
I'm not a certified instructor. Just helping a friend :shaka:
are you madafakin certified by the HPD?
I am a certified madafaka ....

I also ran into my friend's son who was just little kid 40 something yrs ago.

Weather permitting, I'm heading out to test these new loads today. I started using my old stash of powder since the price of powder became so high. These loads used Bullseye powder which has been sitting around for 30 years.

Anyone have an idea if the range is open on black friday?....
....
I was out there yesterday and I asked the rangemaster.
Thursday is a holiday...closed.
Friday is open as usual. 12 to 4.
I also heard that the range would be closed during construction or renovation in December. That's all I know.
It was good to see Stangzilla out there.🤙
I thought parks are supposed to be open on Holidays.......KHSC falls under Parks and Recreation.....
Is the range open tomorrow Jan 20th?
No it's closed

shucks. thanks for the update OF and akubone!...
i wanna go shoot pistols but i dont wanna know how bad i am, so waiting for the silli side to open :D
Do you need to make a reservation for weekend rifle side? Plan on going but didn’t make one. Hoping there’s a waitlist or something…
I miss going during the weekdays. :( My wife and I watch our grandson (9months) and our great-grandson (17months) during the weekdays now. Full time babysitters. I love it but still miss going to the range.
I know from feedback that on weekends the rifle and pistol sides are not as busy after 2pm. Is this still the case?
Haven't gone for so long I'm kinda shame I won't even hit the target frame let alone the target itself.
Does anyone have the scoops on the metallic Silhouette range status? I heard qaa supposed to open in February, but its still closed.
Mahalo
This, and does anyone know how I can contact the club? Email or phone?....
going to test my 45acp LSWC handloads this weekend with chrono :shaka:...

I went today....but forgot to bring my ammo.
Fortunately I had some oddball ammo in my bag.
Enough to keep me busy for a little while..
no focus==========
Going to try practice pistol today.
But here is something I saw last week.
This was some factory load 30.06 that was defective.
Sideways primer.
Perhaps if you shot a few holes in the table-target stand they wouldn't have upcycled it. :rofl:I would have just reclaimed the table and used it as my target stand. It'll be about like the stand he wound up using -- cardboard on top to support the target.
Perhaps if you shot a few holes in the table-target stand they wouldn't have upcycled it.
Went to KHSC to take pics of the range, but gate was still closed with a line of cars behind. Turned around by the archery range and got a flat tire. Right in the corner of the tread and sidewall. Dang it. Waiting for the tow.....
....
It's a holiday.☹️ sorry

August 15 - Statehood Day
September 1 - Labor Day
November 11 - Veterans' Day

December 25 - Christmas
It used to be open on holidays.
I loved going on holidays.
Things changed during the covid years.
Don't ask me why.
Interesting that KHSC, designated a park under PARKS and RECREATION, would be closed on Holidays.....
My guess is "they" don't want us to practice.
Oh BTW, I did go practice today but arthritis is starting to affect me....sucks to get old.Did they six shots or only five...
I did take the dirty Harry gun and had fun letting other people enjoy the thrill.
....
I saw a lot of my old shooting buddies at the gun show last week. A lot of them don't go out to shoot any more. I told them....
USE IT OR LOSE IT
Common sense, right? The city has to PAY for about a half dozen guys to open the range.
The city will adjust facilities to meet public demand.
Eg. Pickleball!!!
Yes, it's true that khsc is under parks&rec, but it's not like other regular parks. It's a really unique facility.
I wish my grandbabies were here. (Instead of vegas)
Maybe I'll get some more over here.
Better than playing with the stupid dawg all the time.
Saw this at the rifle range a couple days ago.
I think it's cute as hell.

Is plinking side open yet?....
Pretty soon though.
Short day…closed early due to fire mountainside of action bay
Darn, that fireball ammo!!
:geekdanc: :shake:
IDK what kind of ammo was being used that started the fire as the berm was blocking my view. But using tracers is not allowed. And since it began on the mountain, i highly doubt someone was smoking and able to flick their cig that far up. IDK what group was in that bay either.
I dunno what happened, but could be a few possibilities.Last week, there was a notice that the dry conditions and higher winds this weekend significantly increased the risk of brush fires in Hawaii.
Could be someone having a ND into the brush on the side berm and burning powder set it off. Or someone was shooting steel plates with steel bullets near the brush. Or non-firearm related reason.
I always have two fire extinguishers on the range when I RSO. People think I'm paranoid but....
Last week, there was a notice that the dry conditions and higher winds this weekend significantly increased the risk of brush fires in Hawaii.
A simple spark from any bullet hitting any rock, piece of metal (like a target stand pipe), etc. could have caused it. It only takes air, fuel and heat to start a fire.
could a head be hot enough to start a fire? I know I've had 2nd degree burns with brass, but it never just stays as I do the wiggle to move it. Maybe 3rd degree burns if you let the hot brass stay in 1 spot.If the kindling and conditions are right (hot, dry day with gentle breezes), something as small as a spark of static electricity can start it. Stronger winds mean that once it's started, conditions favor it spreading faster if plenty of fuel (dry plant material) is present.
Then you have to think about accelerants. Each time a shot is fired, combustible powder is expelled along with the projectile. Not all off it is burned, so if over time, a small amount of powder accumulated where the ignition point is, that powder could help get things started. I figure most of the powder is washed away when it rains, but it's been very dry lately. Just a thought.
Pondering the fire yesterday....
What if a fire were to start behind the rifle/pistol range.
Would that not burn up the rail tracks going up to the lookout?
People might get stuck on top of the hill.
People might have to run either up or down the tracks to escape the fire.
That happened years ago when someone shot a flare gun at the range......
Pondering the fire yesterday....There are a couple of other ways to get up and down Koko Head besides the stairs . . . hiking the ridge.
